Brenda Lee says she's been entertaining professionally since the age of seven. She is now 62 years old. That's 55 years in show business. And she has a new CD out, Gospel Duets with Treasured Friends According to the program I watched - Lee has sold more than 100 million records world wide, was a child/ teen singing sensation and household name in the 1950s and '60s, and she appeared on numerous TV shows over that span of time (and onwards). She had a string of hits, including "Sweet Nothin's," "I'm Sorry" and others. In addition, Brenda Lee is the only female performer to be both in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame AND the Country Music Hall of Fame. Once again, Madonna supporters can take their "Madonna has been in show biz for 20+ years" mantra and bite me. ![]() |

^ Please be sure to see the post I did above about Brenda Lee. Springsteen has been recording and performing since the 1970s, so he's been around longer than Man-donna. Bruce Springsteen Has 8th Career No. 1 Album

How about Prince? He released his first album in 1978. At 19, he wrote all the songs, played every instrument and did all the singing, and even produced it. Here it is in 2007 and he's still recording (he has released over 40 albums in his career) and performing (he recently played a long string of dates in London's O2 arena). Etc., etc. :good: Rush is another long-lived band. They released their first album in 1974; their most recent album came out this year. They're still going strong on the road too. Last and not least, the band's three-man lineup hasn't changed since 1971 when they were still a "garage band"! :good: |

Yes, you're right! Someone did mention Prince on page 1 of this thread. Also, in the United States, one of Prince's tours out-sold / was more popular than Madonna's "Reinvention Tour." I posted online articles about that either at this board, or maybe at the old one. At the moment, I can't find those articles online, but here's a similar one (or maybe this is one of the ones I was thinking of... ): Prince placed No. 1 on Rolling Stone list of top moneymakers - CNN Money
--- EDIT --- You mentioned Rush; how about AC/DC? I know they were recording music in the 1970s. Are they still? If so, I guess they'd count, and maybe KISS? The Eagles were around in the 1970s and will be releasing a new album sometime this year or in the next couple of years (I just read about it somewhere last week). If so, they can be added to the list, too. |

Thanks! :good: I believe RIT and Prince's Musiclogy tour both grossed nearly the same amount of money; I'd have to do some googling. But Prince's ticket prices were a lot more affordable (I went four times)!! He made up the difference by playing a lot more shows and selling a lot more tickets. ;-) And as the article you quoted points out, since his production costs were lower, he made a bigger profit. ;-) :good: |

AC DC's first album came out (in Australia) in 1975...their last album came out in 2000. Rumor says they may have a new one out next year. According to Wiki, KISS put out their first album in 1974, and their most recent in 1998. (Not counting live albums, etc.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss_discography |

Mandona doesn't have any credibility within the music industry, because she is a sham and a rotten person to deal with. The Rolling Stones are still touring and they're a real band. Most of the R&B and rock acts preceeding mandona are still around. |

The thought just crossed my mind... Supposing that Britney Spears doesn't kill herself... If Spears -(or insert name of some other fluffy pop singer)- is still releasing pop albums when she's 80 years old and dancing about in skimpy clothing, would that be worthy of praise? I think most people would laugh hysterically and say, "No. As a matter of fact, I think she should retire from the pop music scene now, or else by the time she's 35/40/45." So why do people hail Madonna as some kind of genius over this? Now, IMO, it depends. Cher was able to pull off the pop music stuff well into her 50s because she seemed somewhat dignified about it. Into her 50s, Cher did continue to wear some trendy (but usually age-appropriate) clothing, but I don't recall her wearing skimpy stuff on stage (like say a too tight purple leotard, ahem!), or pretending as though she could rap like an inner -city, 25 year old black male (*cough*, American Life's "mini-cooper super dooper," *cough*). |

In a news story about a list of TV's greatest icons, TV talk show host Regis Philbin made this comment, which could just as easily apply to Madonna:

Turner has been acknowledged as one of the world's most popular and biggest-selling music artists of all time and is the most successful female rock artist of all time with record sales exceeding 180 million. As per this article she started her carreer at 16 so in 1955, 2008-1955= A magnificent 53 years total. Hasn't she been put on the RRHF? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tina_Turner I hate that BS shes turning 50 the hag and still looks so good. Yeah Plastic super slut. Look at her 68 way better, then the latter. She proved it in the grammy's this year. |

I found another TV star: Tony Orlando, even went to his concert back then, he still tours and still viable. He 's still booked and he was always booked in advance those days too. http://www.tonyorlando.com/?mod=tdates Its funny to listen again buts its still good stuff. Not exactly the genre of music that our generation were exposed to constantly. But the lyrics and music just make you melt away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXIykBsqcoA&feature=related He started his career in 1960. That makes him working for 48 years, whats the big deal Mandoona sighned her new touring contract. There is absolutely no marketing for this guy no ads at all. I remember seeing an ad of him in 1976, that was the last I heard of him. In fact I had forgotten completely, just now I remembered this singer (because of watching Tom Jones, Micheal Jackson, Elvis constantly on TV in the 70's, those were the best era's of music) found he still tours and doesn't need himself to be smacked on your face by advertisements in order to sell with videos that show people taking off their clothes. He has that magnetic affect with no controversy. |

Cyndi Lauper released her new album "Bring You To The Brink" on May, 27th 2008. It's quite good. Think "Confession On A Dancefloor" but without the cheap sound, and meaningless lyrics (New York/Dork... No comments!)! Cyndi released "She's So Unusual" in 1983 which made a 25 years carreer of talent and integrity (a word unknown to Man-Donna). Unfortunately none seems to bring up this fact when speaking about her carreer. Anyway, if you like Techno, Euro Dance and meaningful Pop music with good vocals (something that also remain unknown to Mandonna), you should really give it a chance! How to make good dance music without looking trashy and/or desperate when you're 54 years? ![]() Cyndi Lauper- Into The Night Life Video Take note M'D"ho"lla! |

Gloria Estefan was lead singer for The Miami Sound Machine, which had several hit songs back in the 1980s. Gloria Estefan later did some solo albums, and if I'm not mistaken, she had a few hit solo songs in the 1990s (or maybe those hit solo songs were in the 80s). I do not know if she was recording or working in the 1970s, but she has been around since the 1980s. (I know this headline/story mentions Madonna wanting to become pregnant, but please, do not derail this thread by commenting on that aspect of this link; please use the "Lourdes / Rocco/ David" thread (or even the "Abortion" thread) to discuss that, thanks. If you're wondering where you can find those threads, please start using the Index threads: here, here, here.) How Gloria Estefan Overcame a Crippling Accident and Helped Madonna Conceive
