Ah well, Ricky Martin is gay and Brad Pitt probably has no choice, being a friend of Goober's and under criticism himself...

:bad:
How the hell would Ricky Martin know what type of mother Madonna is? And really, who cares what Ricky thinks about the adoption. He hasn't done anything of relevance in years. Does he even know Madonna or ever met her kids? I still find it strange that Manny's famous friends haven't come to her defense, well besides big ole gay Rosie. Brad's Goober's pal so when put on the spot with a question like, how do you feel about the Madonna adoption, of course he's gonna play diplomat. Alicia is being a twit. I'm most disappointed by her comments just because I like and respect her as an artist and care more about what she thinks than the others. She should read more before she goes on the defensive. I know she's done a lot of charitable work in Africa but no one's judging her actions and probably wouldn't be judging Manny's if she'd taken the proper channels.

Leigh Francis on his Madonna sketch.
Just as a reply on the MTV story, Leigh Francis has just posted this bulletin on Myspace:
’Hi everyone!
...Got a lot of great coverage in the press, some of it lies! There wasn’t a Madonna ban as one of the papers said. If there had been a ban I don’t think they (MTV) would’ve gone out of their way to make a massive glitter ball for me and hire some little people dressed as babies (thanks you guys, you were great!). MTV all new before hand what I was going to do. Some of you may have seen it on the live show. I’m not 100% sure but I think the real Madonna has used her powerful lawyers and had me pulled from the repeat. Oh well I didn’t mean it to be so offensive. In my eyes I meant it as a protest for what she has done. If she can give that little baby a better life I’m all for that. That’s why whilst I was dressed as Madonna I gave the press the finger for giving Madonna a hard time. Sorry Madonna if you took it the wrong way. Good luck with all your baby things! I think you’re ace!’
Special thanks to Akashaqotd.

MTV wanted to stop Madonna's parody?
According to an article in Swedish tabloid Expressen, MTV wanted to stop Leigh Francis`tasteless and mean "imitation" of Madonna... WHY they didn´t not revealed.
Swede´s can comment the article and one of them says; "It´s strange that it´s against the law to bully people at work or in school, but not in media..."

Is this about the guy wearing the mask? I thought his name was Avid Merrion, or is that an alter ego of his?

My understanding after skimming some web page:

Leigh Francis is the guy's real name. His fictional character is Avid Merrion, a character who is obsessed with celebrities and who sometimes dresses up as them.

I posted about this in a separate thread, only I was interested in the part where he says he feels that Madonna got her lawyers to remove his skit from any future rebroadcasts of the 2006 Euro MTV awards show.

Regarding the Swedish reader comment:
"Bullying people in the media?" As if Madonna hasn't used her fame to rip on others before. Besides, she's a public figure and not all parodies of a celebrity have to be flattering to suit the whims of the fans.

Add Emma Thompson to the list:

THOMPSON PRAISES MADONNA ADOPTION
  • 2006-11-24 18:09:11 -

    British actress EMMA THOMPSON has praised MADONNA for adopting Malawian baby DAVID BANDA last month (0CT06).

    The SENSE AND SENSIBILITY star has seen the plight of Malawi's children orphaned by AIDS first hand after becoming involved in charity work in the African country.
    Shocked by the suffering she saw, in 2003 Thompson also welcomed an African orphan - 16-year-old TINDY - into her home after meeting the Rwandan refugee in London.

    And the 47-year-old is convinced Madonna has made the right decision, despite taking David away from his native country and culture.

    She says, "Malawi is a very difficult country, with tremendous problems with AIDS.
    "While I understand the arguments about taking people away from their culture, there is a culture of deprivation and poverty that is not fun to be part of.

    "She found a child in desperate need. Some people want to bring up a child personally, others want to act in a more general way, but both ways are surely to be welcomed."

Well, I don't know why she's sticking up for Manny, but at least it seems she didn't
adopt her child based on him/her being the cutest little photogenic infant.

~~~ EDIT BELOW ~~~
I've never heard of Tony Christie before.
CHRISTIE BACKS MADONNA ADOPTION
I think these celebrities who have adopted who are defending Madonna are doing so because they're taking the criticisms of Madonna personally.
In other words, I'd say to Mr. Christie:
I'm quite sure you adopted out of altruistic motives. I'm sure your adoption was totally legal. But with Madonna, neither of those comments are true.
So stop defending Madonna, Mr. Christie - and that goes for Bono, Ricky Martin and the others.
Excerpt from the Christie article:
  • Crooner and adoptive parent TONY CHRISTIE has attacked critics of MADONNA's recent adoption of a Malawian baby, insisting she should be left alone as he was.
    British Christie has a 30-year-old Anglo-Asian daughter, SARAH, he and his wife adopted at birth.
~~~ EDIT ~~~

Wasn't Oprah suckered by some guy on her show who wrote a book saying he went through its content in real life, then it turned out he was lying?

If Oprah can fall for that con and believe his lies, what makes the Madonna adoption scenario any different?

From Drowned Madonna
  • Oprah Defends Madonna Adoption Again

    Excerpt from the upcoming issue of USA Weekend:

    "They can stick it! It's a miracle when a child gets saved. And I don't care if it's Brad Pitt and Angelina or somebody...we have not heard of. When I see them carrying around that little black baby, that is so OK with me. The people who criticized Madonna don't know what the hell they were talking about, because she's saved a child."

Re:

Just so as the "little black baby" doesn't clash with her Versace outfit, of course :rolleyes2:

And it's not so much that Madonna adopted a child in and of itself - it is the unethical way in which she did so that caused the upset. That, plus the child has living relatives in Malawi, and she took him from them.

Taking everything into account that I've read about Madonna over the years, I know that Madonna never offered to help Yohane (notice that she didn't make this claim until weeks after people brought it up; she didn't mention it in her initial rebuttals) - she's a liar.

Right, it's Oprah who doesn't get it.
Skank paid off the Malawian government, took a baby that WASN'T an orphan, and had him delivered by UPS or something to her door. Couldn't pick out his clothes, and took off an hour after he was brought, to go to the gym.
She maybe saved a life, but it's the slimy way she went to do it that has people angry.

Madonna: Malawian orphans need rescue
  • NEW YORK, Jan 11, 2007

    .... On the show Thursday, Letterman voiced support for the adoption.

    "I [David Letterman] found it a little upsetting that there was such a tumult and furor over this [Madonna's adoption of David Banda] when in fact the net result was here we have a human being that now has a life," he said.
Er, it's not like David did NOT "have a life" before Manny showed up.

David was being fed and clothed by the orphanage, and his dad, grandmother and other relatives were visiting him there.

Just because David is now in a family who will buy him a porsche when he turns 16 doesn't mean they "saved his life."

Did Madonna give any of her own money to this UNICEF/GUCCI deal, or was she just trying to get others to pony up checks? :confused2:

:puke3: Gwyneth: Madonna is so generous
  • Gwyneth Paltrow paid tribute to her friend Madonna's generosity, as she stepped out for the Queen of Pop's New York Gucci benefit to raise funds for Malawi.

    "She's always been committed to helping," Gwyneth - who wore a pink dress with a huge bow - told Access Hollywood.

    "In a big picture way, she's the most generous person in the world and she's always thinking about how she can help.

    "Malawi's become very close to her heart, obviously as her son is from Malawi, and she's spent a lot of time and dedication doing what she can, and it's really nice to support them tonight."
:alien: If Tom Cruise likes and admires Madonna, that means he still has tons more "auditing" to do. Those pesky Thetans are really doing a number on him...

:alien: Man-donna Tribe cites USA Today as the source for this:
  • "I admire what she's doing, and I admire what UNICEF does," said Tom Cruise. "Her office called me. I've known Madonna for years. I really admire her."

"In a big picture way, she's the most generous person in the world..."

What? More generous than Bill and Melinda Gates who are giving away literally billions of their own dollars, with the goal of ultimately donating nearly all of their fortune? They are not making relatively small donations then urging everyone else to step in and give. Nor do they have a hidden agenda of pushing their spiritual or religious beliefs on those they're helping. Give me a break. :rolleyes2:

Interesting to note who was NOT there.... Well intentioned is great but New Age Colonialism isn't the answer if these people really want to save lives and not just go back to their conspicuously consumptive lives.

:dunce: Marie Osmond comments on Madonna's attempt to adopt 2nd kid
  • Posted April 01, 2009

    Marie Osmond, who is the mother to eight kids, including five adopted children, weighs in on the news that Madonna is in the process of adopting another child from Malawi, the African country her son David is from.

    "I'm sure everyone has their opinion, but I can see why she'd want to adopt another child -- so that child doesn't feel alone," she tells our Mary Hart. "She has two biological and there's something nice about knowing you're not alone and you're not different and to have that camaraderie."

    Marie says that despite the fact that Madonna has received some bad press, she thinks she's doing the right thing. "I think it's a nice thing she's trying to do," she says. "I can see she feels it's a good thing. And you know, having three children is harder than four so I say go for it!"

[Former Spice Girl] Brown Backs Madonna Adoption Bid

Mel B praises Madonna
  • 11/04/2009
    [April 11 - I hate how Europeans reverse the order of the day and the month...]

    Los Angeles - Mel B has praised Madonna's adoption bid.

    The former Spice Girls star admires the 4 Minutes singer's failed attempt to open her home to four-year-old Malawian girl Mercy James.

    She said: "It's easy for critics to knock celebrities who choose to adopt, but it's a good thing that Madonna's doing. Not only is she highlighting the plight of orphans in Africa, she's also giving this little girl the chance of a better life."

    ....Mother-of-two Mel - who has two daughters Phoenix Chi, 10 and Angel Iris, two - also revealed she would have considered adoption if she hadn't been able to have biological kids.

    She said: "Personally, because I can have children naturally, adoption isn't something I would consider. But if it was a struggle to have a child naturally then I'd be all for adopting. What struck a chord with me is that Madonna plans to keep the child in touch with her roots in Africa. I don't think it matters where a child comes from - it's about giving a baby or a child a family, love and a fresh start."

:no!: And to think I had a crush on Mr. Jackman at one time.

Let's suppose I grant him his point that Madonna is not trying to adopt children from a desire of wanting publicity.

That still does not account for her huge ego (see the "Ego" thread and the "Savior Complex" thread).

I think it pumps up her ego for her to think of herself as a do-gooder.

It's less about helping other people or caring about them, as it is making herself feel good about herself and getting pats of approval on the back from other people.

I don't think Madonna really got into this charity adoption stuff so much until she got wrapped up in Berg's Kabbalah Cult. Is helping poor people and orphans her own idea, or did Berg instruct her to do it?

Support for Madonna from Hugh Jackman as Mercy's father steps in
  • 30 APRIL 2009
    Madonna has received a message of support from Wolverine star Hugh Jackman over her continued efforts to adopt four-year-old Malawian girl Mercy James.

    The Aussie actor, who has two adopted children of his own, hit out at cynics who questioned Madonna's motives for wanting to adopt a second child from the African country. "I'm sure she is coming from a good place," he said.

    "I challenge anyone who thinks you adopt a kid for a publicity stunt. Any parent knows that would have to be the most intensive publicity stunt in the world."

    His comments came as the Material Girl's bid to make Mercy a permanent member of her family suffered a further complication this week when a man claiming to be Mercy's father moved to claim full custody of his daughter.

    Twenty-four-year-old James Kambewa, who says he was unaware of the child's existence and was told she died in childbirth with her mother, has written a letter to lawyers asking for a permanent injunction to prevent the 50-year-old adopting her.

    "I don't think Madonna is a model mum," the security guard - who is willing to take a DNA test to prove he is Mercy's dad - told the Daily Mail. "She doesn't portray good morals."

    In a handwritten letter Mr Kambewa says: "I do not consent to the adoption because I feel I am capable of raising the child." He says he has also called on the help of the Human Rights Consultative Committee, a group of organisations which have taken issue with the adoption.

    Madonna's adoption application has been turned down by a Malawi court, but sources say she is "confident" of overturning the decision in an appeal next Monday. She had hoped the fact she had the backing of key members of Mercy's immediate family, including her grandmother and uncle, would help.

    There's no mercy in show business, and still she's able to do what she wants and with tremendous results [not anymore]."

    "My daughter Benedetta is crazy for her and keeps hammering me with "listen to this.. listen to that..."

    And though it was a bit forced on me, I now have my own true knowledge of "Madonna culture". Hats off to her!"

Why would anyone want "Madonna arms???" Those gross, veiny deformed looking appendages? Why????
(Check out all the images of Madonna's gross arms in our Arms Thread)

Katy Perry Wants "Madonna Arms"
  • The pop star is happy with her “voluptuous” figure, but claims she will never let her arms get out of shape.

    She exercises them daily and one day hopes they will be as muscular at Madonna’s.

    “My favourite part of my body would have to be my arms. I love my arms,” she said. “They’re the part of my body that stay in shape the most. I want Madonna arms!”

    But Katy, 25, admits she would never be able to work out enough to tone her limbs as much as Madonna’s. She thinks the older singer must lift weights non-stop to achieve her look, and insists she could never have so much dedication to the gym.

    “I could never do all that exercise Madonna does. Hell no! She’s Madonna, we have to remember that,” Katy insisted. “There’s only one of her.”
