Taylor Swift On Selena Gomez And Madonna: Singer Talks Giving Advice, Getting Inspiration

  • In terms of age and stature, Taylor Swift is sandwiched somewhere between Selena Gomez and Madonna -- at least according to last weekend's Billboard Music Awards, where Gomez represented the show's youngest performers and Madonna its most seasoned.

In a new interview with Billboard, Swift reflects on that position, saying she looks up to the 54-year-old Madonna, who took home Top Touring Artist honors, and avoids doling out advice to younger stars like Gomez.

Swift also seems to acknowledge that her career is not identical to Madonna's early days. Swift has developed a clear identity, whereas Madonna quickly became known for constantly reinventing herself.

"One element of Madonna's career that really takes center stage is how many times she's reinvented herself," Swift said when asked what she's learned from the original Material Girl's legacy. "It's easier to stay in one look, one comfort zone, one musical style. It's inspiring to see someone whose only predictable quality is being unpredictable."

Says Taylor, the one who sings about the same things in every song and album she makes.

But werent there other artists before Lamedonna reinventing themselves? And most of her reinventions were just copies of past artists ideas and looks.

I dare say that all of her "reinventions" are rip offs. She has never invented anything that no one before her wouldn't do or wear.

Taylor looking up to Madge?? Really? Isn't that asking for an All About Eve moment? :bad:

Once again: yes, there were so many other women rockers always in flux before Crazydonna even left Michigan. Aretha, Dolly, Cher, Diana, Loretta, Dusty, Debbie, Patti, Joni, Carole King, Tammy Wynette, Marianne Faithfull, Karen Carpenter, Lesley Gore, Olivia Newton-John, Nico, Maureen Tucker ... just the beginning there ... but no end to the stans finding fault in anyone that's not their Queen!!!! :argue: :order:

For cryin' out loud, when Madge was pregnant with Lourdes, people acted as though she were the first woman entertainer EVER to give birth. What would Marlene Dietrich have thought? Or Sarah Bernhardt? :confused2:

Along with her message, she posted a photo of Madonna that was taken in the early 1990s.

Rita Ora Praises Madonna For 'Fighting Ageist Battles'

Rita Ora praises Madonna for fighting ageist battle with THAT kiss but posts young pic of her icon
  • The rapper appeared shocked after the Like A Virgin star left him tongue tied on stage

Rita Ora has shown her support for Madonna after she received backlash for passionately kissing Drake at Coachella.

She wrote: “Thank you for fighting all these ageist battles, and paving a way, that just maybe one day, all of us "Younger"Artists won't have too in the future!' @madonna #if***nlovethisbitch #thatswhatlegendsdo”

Alongside her gushing message she uploaded an image of the iconic singer in a sheer leotard from a number of years ago - which seems to slightly defeat the point, don't you think?

Hahaha! Rita Ora is the Stan for Lourdes' cheap sweatshop clothing. What sad drivel. Saddest part is that Mandonna has no respect for that kind of attempt at kindness.

How ironic: Rita Ora has often been called different names (similar to Madonna) for doing the same stuff that got Madonna to the top, no wonder she would defend Madonna.

This old friend of Madonna's is trying to spin the vampiric face suck as being sexy.

Debi Mazar Weighs In on Skin Care, Jury Duty, and the Drake-Madonna Make-Out

  • By Jada Yuan

Did you see the Madonna-Drake kiss?
    Yes, I did.

    What did you think?
Oh my God, it was sexy! You could see she deep-planted a nice hot kiss and they kind of were going at it. He went to grab her hair. I mean, it had to stop and I think they both got — she didn’t show it, but I think he got a little bit embarrassed because it was just that hot, heat reaction. I don’t think his reaction was anything odd. I think he was just, like, kind of gagging that he got a deep kiss from Madonna.

He said it had something to do with the lipstick she was wearing.
Well, I know Madonna very well, and in performing she might have had some kind of heavier lipstick on, so that could be true. Regardless, that reaction did not read to me “lipstick.” That reaction read to me, like, “That was so f***ing intense, oh my God.” Like, “I should not be onstage right now. Let’s go to the bedroom.”

Do you and Madonna still talk a lot?
We don’t talk a lot. We email more than anything, and text because we’re both so busy.
I think it's safe to say she's the only person who found that kiss "sexy."

Is Mazar even a celebrity? She was a Madonna employee and is now an eternal brainless Stan who was able to parlay negligible skills into some bad film roles and wane TV dross. To read her pitifully fake excuses is to hear a complete phony.

I think Mazar used to have a singing career, and is currently hosting one or two television shows on the Cooking Channel?

I don't really know enough about Mazar to have anything against her (or for her), but she was definitely spinning the Madonna-Drake incident to Madonna's favor in that interview.

edit.
Above, when I said Mazar was an "old friend of Madonna's" I just meant she and Madonna knew each other from years ago, or for a few decades now.

Given that Madonna is apt to yell about "ageism" so much now, I wanted to clarify that I did not mean the phrase "old friend" to be a comment or put-down about Mazar's age (it was not).

Gotcha. I feel she applies to this thread but not to celebrity in general!

I still have not gotten around to watching the 'B_tch I'm Madonna' video. Based on screen caps I've seen, it looks garish and somewhat juvenile.

While it's true I haven't been sitting on Twitter 24 hours a day reading every single Tweet about Madonna, out of the critical stuff I have seen about her new video, a lot of it is making fun of how lame the video is, or how her famous guest stars are not actually in the video with her - they were not with her live, on set, etc.

I've really not seen a lot of "Madonna is an old lady, anyone who is over 50 isn't sexy."

So I don't quite know where this guy is getting this from, that people are okay with Caitlyn Jenner being sexy at 65 but not Madonna at 55?

Diplo Blasts Madonna’s Ageist Haters: Why Can Caitlyn Jenner ‘Be Sexy’ But She Can’t?
  • Thu, June 18, 2015 4:37pm EDT
    by Alyssa Norwin

Diplo totally has Madonna’s back! The music producer stood up for his pal against haters who say she’s too old to keep trying to be sexy. But he quickly deleted his message on Twitter…likely because many began criticizing HIM for using Caitlyn Jenner as a comparison. Here’s the scoop!

Madonna, 56, is totally OWNING it in her new “b***h I’m Madonna” video, but she’s been getting some hateful comments for her sexy outfits and dance moves…and Diplo is NOT having it! Unfortunately, in standing up for Madge, he also made a pretty controversial comment about Caitlyn Jenner that had the haters turning on him instead.

“I’m confused that Madonna not allowed to be sexy but Caitlyn Jenner is?” he tweeted on June 18. Shortly after, though, he deleted the tweet, and it was most likely because of the reference to Caitlyn, which he may not have realized was so insensitive before he sent it.

There was, of course, absolutely no reason to bring Caitlyn into this discussion, but Diplo does have a good point about Madonna — why all the hate!? At 56 years old, she’s looking more amazing than ever, and if she wants to show it off then she totally should!

Considering Diplo is one of the video’s stars, it’s no surprise that he’d want to defend the Queen Of Pop against anyone hating on it. In “b***h I’m Madonna,” the singer shows off her sexy dance moves while making her way through a giant party — and there’s cameos from stars like Katy Perry, 30, Miley Cyrus, 22, Beyonce, 33, Kanye West, 38, and Nicki Minaj, 32, too! AMAZING!

Of course, this, sadly, is far from the first time Madonna has received criticism for being sexy at her age. Remember in April when she kissed Drake flat on the mouth during a surprise Coachella performance?! The public went nuts, but she was totally just having a good time! Come on — Madge is an absolute legend, and she might as well embrace her young side for as long as she can!
Deep Thoughts With Diplo: Why Isn’t Madonna ‘Allowed to Be Sexy But Caitlyn Jenner Is?’
  • By: Matt Russoniello / June 18, 2015

Wow Diplo. Such thinking. Much deep. So truths.

Earlier today, your favorite Twitter troll and ours, Diplo, shared with his followers the kind of thought suitable for a Thought Catalog article submitted by an ambitious high schooler. That tweet:

    [Tweet by Diplo.
I'm confused that Madonna not allowed to be sexy but Caitlyn Jenner is?]

What exactly is Diplo questioning, though?

We may never know the truth for certain — tough questions often don’t come with easy answers — but, likely, he is referring to the reception for Madonna’s “b***h I’m Madonna” video, in which he features. (He also produced the song. Diplo has a horse in this race, lest you forget.)

The video, which premiered yesterday, features Madonna and a whole host of her famous “friends” prancing around The Standard hotel in New York City.

Upon viewing, most people’s initial reaction wasn’t, “This is great!” Because, in all truth, the video is not great. It is actually laughably terrible.

But it is not laughably terrible because Madonna is too old to be sexy, which seems to be the point Diplo is trying to make.

It is laughably terrible because the much-hyped celebrity cameos are all phoned in. (Literally: most of them appear to have Skyped into the shoot.) It is laughably terrible because the choreography is basic and uninspired.

It is laughably terrible because white people wearing grills always look laughably terrible. There are many reasons why the video is not good, and honestly, Madonna’s age is not one of them.

Why Diplo made the leap from Madonna’s tragic video to Caitlyn Jenner is unclear. Other than the fact that it’s controversial. You know what, actually? That’s that sorted. All’s clear now.

And thus he wondered aloud: “I’m confused that Madonna not allowed to be sexy but Caitlyn Jenner is?”

Let us clear up your confusion, Diplo: Both Madonna and Jenner are “allowed” to be sexy, but only one of them is producing four-minute, cotton candy vomit-tinted nightmares that look like scenes from late-era Absolutely Fabulous episodes:

    (snip GIF)

Watch “b***h I’m Madonna” below if you would like to understand why no one likes it.
