(This is continued from a conversation from the political thread in the MBC forum)I feel the same way. I think McCain got in because during the primaries, a lot of registered Democrats were changing themselves (temporarily) to Republicans (on paper) so that they could vote for McCain because they knew that McCain was not as conservative as the other guys running. (And which is why Rush Limbaugh got his radio show listeners who were registered Republican voters to switch to Democrats, so they could vote for Hillary Clinton and drag the Democratic primaries on and on and on. Rush called this "Operation Chaos," and it was very funny to listen to his show during this. The man could not stop giggling.) The only time I don't like to see slams against McCain is if it's done because those doing the slamming think he really and truly represents conservative beliefs. Kinda like, I don't particularly like Christian TV host Pat Robertson, and I'd actually be inclined to agree with some criticisms of him, except for when Non-Christians (and/or liberals who are hostile to the faith) insult him in the context of making him a figure head or representative of Christianity. Since that was about as clear as mud (sorry)- To put it another way, sometimes attacks on Robertson can be read as attacks on the Christian faith itself, and that's what I don't approve of, that's when I will speak up. You can pretty much pick on Pat Robertson and it won't bother me, but when it's implicating the Christian faith in addition to him, that's a sticking point with me. It's the same thing with McCain and conservative views and beliefs. |

By LIZ SIDOTI and BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Writers ![]() DAYTON, Ohio - John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a maverick conservative with less than two years in office, as his vice presidential running mate Friday in a startling choice as the Republican National Convention drew near. At a raucous rally in the swing state of Ohio, McCain introduced Palin as the political partner "who can best help me shake up Washington and make it start working again for the people who are counting on us." Palin, the first Republican woman tapped for national office, promised: "I'm going to take our campaign to every part of our country and our message of reform to every voter of every background in every political party, or no party at all." "... Politics isn't just a game of competing interests and clashing parties," added the woman who has built her career in large measure by challenging fellow Republicans. "The people of America expect us to seek public office and to serve for the right reasons." In a fast-developing presidential campaign, McCain made his selection six days after his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, named Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, as his running mate. The contrast between the two announcements was remarkable — Obama, 47, picked a 65-year-old running mate with long experience in government and a man whom he said was qualified to be president. On his 72nd birthday, McCain chose a 44-year-old running mate who until recently was the mayor of small-town Wasilla, Alaska — and made no claim she was ready to sit in the Oval Office. At 44, she is younger than two of McCain's seven children. She is three years Obama's junior, as well — and McCain has made much in recent weeks of Obama's relative lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matters. In its formal announcement, the campaign pointed to her powers as head of the Alaska National Guard and the mother of a soldier herself as evidence that she "understands what it takes to lead our nation..." McCain has had months to consider his choice, and has made it clear to reporters that one of his overriding goals was to avoid a situation like 1988, when little known Sen. Dan Quayle was thrown into a national campaign with little preparation. A self-styled hockey mom and political reformer, Palin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 6,500, until she became governor. She became governor of her state in December, 2006 after ousting a governor of her own party in a primary and then dispatching a former governor in the general election. More recently, she has come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper. Palin has a long history of run-ins with the Alaska GOP hierarchy, giving her genuine maverick status and reformer credentials that could complement McCain's image. Two years ago, she ousted the state's Republican incumbent governor, Frank Murkowski in the primary, despite having little money and little establishment backing. She has also distanced herself from two senior Republican office-holders, Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don young. Both men are under federal corruption investigations. She had earned stripes — and enmity — after Murkowski made her head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. From that post, she exposed ethical violations by the state GOP chairman, also a fellow commissioner. Her husband, Todd Palin, is part Yup'ik Eskimo, and is a blue-collar North Slope oil worker who competes in the Iron Dog, a 1,900-mile snowmobile race. The couple lives in Wasilla. They have five children, the youngest of whom was born in April with Down syndrome. LINK |

Well the latest news is that Palin's 17 yr old daughter has been left in a family way by her 18 yr old Hockey Player Boyfriend... As of last report her daughter will keep the child and marry the Boyfriend... Even Barack Obama has strongly requested the Media respect Palin's daughter during this time... :good: But you can bet you bottom dollar Madge and her Media Pals will be making a big issue out of this... Cos everybody can't be like her and have children by two different fathers along with 11 abortions

Matt Damon Terrified of Sarah Palin !!!! ![]() Film Actors Guild We cannot afford the possibility of an Alaska hockey mom with no experience having to face down Vladimir Putin, which is why we must elect an Illinois suburban dad with no experience who’ll definitely and immediately have to face him down. Who’s already embarrassed himself with the weakness of his response to Putin’s incursion into Georgia. The odds he gives for McCain surviving his first term are also off, of course. Exit question: He sneers that Palin was picked for “political purposes” and nothing more. Remind me again, which important policy proposals landed trial lawyer turned first-term senator John Edwards on the national ticket four years ago? And whom did Matt Damon endorse at the time? LINK |

The photographer is a horrible guttersnipe. Plus, her pics are horrible and the ones she did of the crying children (she made a bunch of kids cry to illustrate how she felt about Bush's reelection) were airbrushed way too much, making the kids look plastic and fake. |

It's funny how a small faction of folks are defending her on other sites, saying that she's an "artist". It's not art; it doesn't even qualify as bad art. It doesn't make you think differently or consider things from another perspective, or engender any reaction other than disgust at the photographer herself. It's merely a childish temper tantrum in pictures, a pathetic attention-whoring outburst from a girl who's ego has gotten too big for her britches. Any half-competent hack with Photoshop can create essentially the same image that she did. |

And of course Madonna's favourite Pet Fool next to Lies Rosenberg had to chime in with this... Liz Smith... ![]() James: Pssst...Larry....Pssst...LARRY !!!! Her Depends are leaking !!! 'WELL, you can put lipstick on a hog and call it Monique, but it's still a pig." I guess we're talking about Madge or youself Liz..... :good: Are you getting tired of this one? Well once again give her an A for mindreading ... I just want to remind you that this is the exact quote made back in 1994 by the governor of Texas, Ann Richards. (Ann was talking about how hard it was to elect women on the basis of "heart, ability and intellect," and she added that those things don't count without money to get women elected.) Well we know now why she only lasted One Term in Office, Because of moronic comments lie this plus her past membership in a Pro-Nazi Group before Pearl Harbor was about to be exposed... Since Ann made this joke 14 years ago, there are many more recent video recorded instances of Senator John Edwards, Vice President d*ck Cheney and both of our presidential candidates - John McCain and Barack Obama - using this same quote about the pig and lipstick. Correct for once Liz, but it was being directed at a Female Governor by a Candidate as a sexist jab... So, I don't see why Gov. Sarah Palin's supporters are so upset, as this particular quote has nothing to do with her own little wisecrack about pit bulls and lipstick from which she is getting so much mileage. Once again read the above Liz... P.S. If you want a good laugh, tune in to actress Gina Gershon's brilliant imitation of Gov. Palin in the video the actress has posted at funnyordie.com No Liz if I we want a good laugh, we'll read your ridiculous fluff pieces on Madge... LIZ SMITH DRIVEL 9-12-09 And then she illustrates the hypocrite she is by going off again on how the film MAMMA MIA was being sabotaged at the Box Office by a sexist conspiracy... |

Flea Dip : Michelle Malkin had a very good column today regarding the Atlantic Photo Controversy... :good: MAG HAS BLOOD ON ITS HANDS By MICHELLE MALKIN September 16, 2008 WHEN you lie down with Bush-hating photographers, you get up with public-relations nightmares. So learned The Atlantic magazine after hiring celebrity lenswoman Jill Greenberg to take portrait shots of John McCain. Greenberg is Glenn Close to The Atlantic's Michael Douglas in this real-life, photo-journalistic adaptation of "Fatal Attraction." And her McCain imagery was the rabbit in the deranged Greenberg's boiling pot. "I left his eyes red and his skin looking bad," she cackled. This woman deliberately terrorized children in concerted attempts to make children who were not cooperating cry - all so she could caption photos of the kids with anti-Bush slogans like "Grand Old Party," "Four More Years" and "Apocalypse Now." The abuse included stripping the children and ordering parents to "step out of the studio for a couple minutes." She also gave the kids candy and then took it away. Greenberg even used her own daughter for her propaganda. When one photographer sharply criticized her unethical behavior, Greenberg and her husband harassed them on the Internet. The child-abuse-for-art debacle garnered international headlines and became part of her professional biography. Who recommended her to The Atlantic? Who vetted her? The editors purport to be shocked and disgusted. Yet this is the same magazine that captioned a photo of McCain "McCain loser" just five months ago on its Web site. And now they say they were "blind-sided?" The Atlantic has no one but itself to blame for its bad exposure. malkinblog@gmail.com MALKIN ARTICLE And Flea Dip...Guess who wrote a butt kissing piece on John McCain ? Liz Smith !!!!! And we are just getting used to the new super celebrity in our midst - the one from Alaska. Sarah Palin has put every other celeb in the US in the shade. She has erased all of them. Suddenly, Hollywood endorsements, stars singing for Obama, talk-show hostesses speaking up for Obama, and the movie business itself seems jaded, faded, old hat. IF YOU read The New Yorker article on Mrs. John McCain, you'll know a lot more about this fascinating would-be first lady than we've ever known before. You'll also learn a fresh thing or two from writer Ariel Levy about her husband, the candidate. Cindy McCain has many philanthropic excellent achievements to recommend her. But she is now busy going to every single factory, town meeting and whistle stop with her husband. She definitely keeps him in her sights. This is quite unlike any other political wife. Although it's not in the New Yorker article, one media theory going around is that she would like him to "owe her" if he is elected. Well, I don't know if that is true, but I think the only person McCain will owe if elected is Sarah Palin. LIZ SMITH LINK Ok now.... Liz Smith a diehard Democrat and Liberal is suddenly being kissy face with the GOP & McCain ????? Either she's out for something or getting very antsy about having "one of those people" in The White House .....

The conservative watch dog sites have been pointing out that this story of Obama trying to influence Iraq policy has been under-reported -or altogether neglected- by the MSM (main stream media). Maybe I should post about that in the "MSM = Liberal" thread. (I haven't been watching tons of news lately; I'm preparing to move out of state next week, plus the local news here is mainly dealing with Hurricane Ike. So I'm relying on summaries of stuff I see in Google News or on news / political sites.) |
