And Rush Limbaugh just pointed out on his afternoon broadcast today... "Where is Michelle Obama hiding these days????" And what I'd like to add is this.... "Where is Obama's MOTHER hiding out during this campaign ?" I mean McCain, Palin, and Biden have trotted out their children, wives, husband, and Parents for the Media Spotlight but Obama's Mother is nowhere to be seen .... Is it because he's ashamed to admit that she's a White Woman ? Or perhaps she's a Hillary supporter ? Strange...

From Wikipedia: Stanley Ann Dunham Soetoro (November 29, 1942 – November 7, 1995), known as Ann Dunham, and later as Ann Sutoro[1] was the mother of United States Senator and presidential candidate Barack Obama.[2] Dunham was an anthropologist who specialized in rural development. Born in Kansas, Dunham attended high school near Seattle, Washington and spent most of her adult life in Hawaii. She died of ovarian cancer in 1995. |

I watched the McCain-Obama debate that was on a few nights ago, I saw about 20 or 30 mins of it. I was so bored by it I couldn't watch much more. The portion I saw dealt mostly with the economy. It also didn't help that it was one of the first nights in the new place, and I was very, very tired. It's hard enough trying to follow boring economic discussion when you're fully awake, but when you're sleepy and dead tired, it's that much harder.

I think it can go the both ways...I think that if Obama had a pregnant teen daughter, people will go off on how black people are irresponsible and do not plan pregnancies, just as they have given hell to poor Bristol. I think the irony and should I say hipocracy here is that Palin is highly religious and should have teach her children to keep their pants on. Why predicate abstinence when your own daughter is going around and around like a record...ya know? |

I don't think Obama is ashamed. I just dont' think he should milk his family to appeal to voters. The only thing I care about politicians is just fix the freaking economy, do something about it, fix health care and retirement. I could care less if he shows up with his family or not. As a matter of fact, I find it distracting from the real issues that I care about. If you care about family then good, but that's not what I care about. I really don't care about his family or how many children Palin has pooped. I want someone to fix this country!!! |

I shouldn't have said like a record. .. actually it is not proven she sleeps around but teen pregnancy is not a good thing and is looked down upon ... even if it looks like she is going to marry the father. I don't know, it's just me. |

I don't like teen pregnancy either, but the only reason most conservatives are so supportive of Palin's problem is that her daughter chose not to have an abortion. I mean, to non-conservatives that might sound silly, but conservatives put a lot of value on having the baby. They see it as taking responsibility, although it could be argued that having an abortion is also taking responsibility. I don't feel that way, but it's an argument I've seen before. The thing about conservative Christians is that they are not perfect, and they do make mistakes. Not only that, a parent has only so much control over their child, and Sarah's daughter might not even be that religious or conservative. You can tell someone to practice abstinence until you're blue in the face, but at the end of the day you cannot force anyone to practice abstinence. You can only 'teach' them and hope they'll apply the lessons. |

EDITED TO ADD LINK TO QUIZ: Obama or McCain Quiz Quiz above: You're presented with a set of quotes on various subjects, and you are not told who said which comment. You vote on the comment you most agree with. At the end of the quiz, your responses are tallied, and you are told if your views are more in line with McCain's or Obama's. -My score: I'm closer to McCain than Obama. (There were some categories where I did not agree with either statement. On the topic of global warming, for example, both comments looked about the same to me, and I don't give a whit about that subject, so I just clicked whichever one, basically.) I just moved from Houston, Texas, and there were a lot of bank robberies there, including one just in front of my subdivision several months ago. So I guess we should all stop teaching children that stealing is wrong, since there are people robbing banks? - that's the same argument you're making in regards to sexuality. I mean, what is the point in trying to instill the right values in people when people are going to depart from them anyway? -That kind of thinking doesn't make any sense, SkylerKnows. From the Palin thread (which MIGHT be merged with this one later): Neither one speaks to me. McCain is just the lesser of two evils here. Sarah Palin may be a little bit more of a conservative than McCain is, but I don't vote for the Prez by who the V.P. is, even withstanding the "she'd be just a heart attack away from the presidency" shtick libs love to wallow in. That was something I just explained in the Palin thread a few days ago. (Maybe SkylerKnows meant to post some of these comments to the Palin thread?) You're a pocket-book voter, the sort I find highly annoying, since you do not care about the nation's culture / morality, or else you place such concerns very low on the totem pole. As long as the Pocket Book Voter's bank account is okay and he's employed, he or she could care less about subjects like abortion, sexually transmitted diseases among teens, the acceptance of deviant lifestyles such as homosexuality, etc. (This also describes my sister perfectly. Typical remarks at election time from my sister include, "I don't like any of the candidates, I hate them all, none of them care about me, none of them are going to pay my bills or help me with my pay check, so what do I care who wins, and why should I vote??") - ![]() Since our nation does seem to have a problem with teen pregnancy and sexual promiscuity, I'd like those problems fixed. And that ain't going to happen with a Democrat in office, presiding over a Democratic Congress, who will also nominate liberal Supreme Court justices. |

It's official. I don't like Sarah Palin. I love Biden. He was amazing. Sarah didn't seem like she knows what she is talking about and went on to talk whatever she wanted to talk about instead of answering question at hand and I caught her in too many instances. I think Biden is capable of doing the job. He might have used statistics, etc but still he seem approachable and warm. I thought he was some old guy who was disconnected with the middle class but this changed my mind a bit. |

Well, I think homosexuality has nothing to do with morality. And that's where I differ from you. If you think it does, then so be it. For me, homosexuality is although not common or the norm, it is ok under the law... religious or otherwise (God loves everyone and a person should be entitled to all benefits the law offers heterosexual couples regardless of sexual orientation). Homosexuality is ok to me as long as homosexuals don't display acts in front of children or other people. That applies to heterosexuals as well. Just keep the bedroon activities in the bedroom no matter if you're hetero/homosexuals. One must be reserved. If two people love each other then so be it. Leave them alone I say. If they love each other then more power to you. I know homosexual couples and they pay their taxes and they donate to charities, they are helpful friends, they love their mom, their families, etc. They are GOOD people. I don't care how they live their sexual lives and so shouldn't anybody else. That's all. Of course I care about a set of standards of good manners but just because some politician displays his trophy wives is going to make them or me more moral...what is that all about? Let's talk about some real issues at hand. At least issues that worry me the most. I am sorry but I care about the economy, the environment, Iraq War, Enery alternatives, etc. Morality? ask any person going through a foreclosure if morality is their number one concern. Please!!! Morality last. It's not that morality is not important. All I am saying is we gotta get out of the economic hole we are in fast!. Bring the troops home! Bring jobs back home. I am about to lose my job!! wth? Do you think I care that God is in every livingroom in America right now? No, although I am a catholic (born and raised but non practicing) myself, I don't care what your religion is, all I care is that i have my beliefs and your have yours and they maybe different but it's alright. If other people are not moral, then it's not like I am going to make them and judge them for it. That's between them and their conscience. In the end, if in the case that God exists, you're going to answer to him/her then. Period. Everything the republicans stand for, well almost everything, I am against. If you are into morality then ok, but it's not my priority right now. I don't have kids, I go to school, so I guess I'll change my mind when I start having a family (like many people say to me, when you're young you're a democrat but eventually you turn republican, is that true? I dont know ) but right now I am young, I work hard, I don't want my retirement money gone, I worry where my education money is going to come from. Sorry but that's the way it is. f**k morality right now. My relationship with God is a complicated one and it's nobody's business but mine. I do consider myself a good person, better than most 'religious' hypocritical people, believe it or not. But that's not for me to judge. I keep it to myself. Now if you are thinking that because I am not highly religious, that I am not moral or that I somehow condone all rapists, killers or whatever, you're wrong. I still think it's bad to kill, etc of course. I have my morals as well yet I am not a religious fanatic. I am not implying that you are or anyone else here but I don't equal religious with morality. In essence, I just dont' think homosexuality falls under 'immorality' tab. Bring the real issues into politics!!! |

'f**k' morality? That is f***ing ridiculous and simplistic. You don't have to be a parent to have morals. Morality isn't just not being a raging gutterwhore, sleeping around with random strangers and doing drugs all day and all night. It's simply about being a good person, being responsible, working hard, etc. This is the problem with liberals. They don't even know what morals are, and they support the deterioration of culture. In fifteen years, hardcore porn will be on primetime television, softcore porn will be on TV during the daytime, it will be legal to have sex with animals, live sex shows in public parks (like Amsterdam), most illegal drugs will be legal and passed around like party favors and jails will be empty because we all have to be sweet and understanding of criminals, who are just 'understood'. And screw personal responsibility, as the government will jsut take care of you. The government will give you a job, a house, a car, and a weekly check for doing little more than sitting on your ass, bitching about how evil the Republicans are. And of course this will lead to increased crime and will probably tank the economy, but f**k ALL THAT I am a liberal and I want to do whatever I want, damn the consequences! Morals are just as important as other issues, and the lack of morality leads to the decline of society as a whole. These rules were put in place for a good reason, and it was NOT to keep people from having fun. I know what I've written above may seem paranoid and hysterical, but it is also within the realm of possibility. |

I said f**k morality right now!!! read my post!! I said right NOW! not always and forever. I am for anyone's morality but my priority is different RIGHT NOW. I am going to have different priorities. It has nothing to do with liberal or not. I 've been called the most conservative person among my friends and they go to Orthodox church EVERY DAY! I don't go on call people liberals or conservatives because they have different views. The point is my priority is different than yours and yours are different from mine. I am going to push for the candidate that speaks TO ME! not you or someone I don't know. I am for what affects me and my family and my friends, MY COMMUNITY. And right now my priority is education, economy, the iraq war and the environment. Don't you see? I am sure you're doing the same, if morality is priority for you, then knock yourself out. I dont' care. I care about what affects me directly. You might say morality affects me directly but I don't see it. I need to get money for my college tuition. I need a loan, am I going to be able to at least get a loan? Morality, please dont' make me laugh. |

Yes you do. I think you got it all wrong. I don't want sex shows in public property. What the hell is wrong with you? Did I say that? Of course I don't like those things, do you think I will be here talking about Mandonna and her sluttiness and use of religious imagery MY RELIGIOUS IMAGERY just for kicks? But right now that's not important to me. I am going to deal with what I think is important right now. You deal with whatever you want but don't push your agenda on me adn I'll do the same. You're not going to convince me that education, the iraq war, international relations, the economy, the environment, retirement are not important as well. I am sure Obama/Biden are not up for sex in public. Please. Get over yourself. |

To be completely honest, I'm not particularly fond of either presidential candidate. But my "default position" is Democrat (simply for lack of better options in a two-party system, not because I agree with Dem politics entirely either). Primarily, I never liked Palin's politics to begin with so, unfortunately, she's become the deciding factor in who I'm voting for this election. I don't consider myself a liberal, but a moderate. Unfortunately, there's little in the way of options for folks like me. Regarding gay marriage and the environment, my stance is more liberal. Fiscally, I'm conservative. On the abortion issue, I'm smack-dab in the middle, an "only to save the life of the mother" type. And so on. There's no candidate who truly speaks for me. |

No, you get over YOURSELF. Everyone is pushing their agenda on everyone else. You're a fool if you don't think the things that you say and do aren't pushing what YOU think on everyone else. And I never f***ing said that education, the war, international relations, environment, retirement, etc weren't important. But saying 'f**k morals' is f***ing retarded, end of story. Today, tomorrow, next week, whatever. They're all equally important. You're seem to think that any and all morality is censorship. You don't say it, but it's painfully obvious in what you type. So seeing someone LIKE YOU attack morality because you're so f***ing worried about your job (hey, maybe you should just focus on doing a better job at it, instead of blaming society's concern on morality) pisses me the hell off. Who the f**k are YOU to decide what is more important when it comes to the issues? Believe it or not, THAT IS WHAT YOU DID WITH YOUR POST. I have had it up to here with liberals. I really have. |

WHOA! Ok guys, chill out a little and take a few deep breaths, the both of you. No need for insults. Everybody has their own ideas of what should be a higher priority for the US government, and what should be lower on the list. Wanting an economic change more doesn't mean that morality isn't still important. I understand you're all passionate about your beliefs, and that's a good thing to be. So am I. But we don't need to rip each other apart because we don't necessarily agree with one another. We're all here because we hate Madonna, an amoral pop singer who has attacked/mocked our personal beliefs at one point or another, so obviously morality is important to us all to some degree. That's something to keep in mind... and if you lose your cool when debating politics, walk away from it for awhile, and save yourself the frustration. |

I do understand, Marie. Really, I do. Politics tends to be a powder-keg of raw emotion for some folks. For me, it's things like animal rights (which also feeds into my stance on the environment), child abuse, crimes and abuse against women, bullying, etc. Social issues make me passionate, and I'm the first to admit I can lose my level-headedness in a debate on related topics because I feel so strongly. So I'm not saying it's wrong to feel like you do, nor that you should feel inclined to "give in"; all I'm saying is watch how you say some things. That's all. And if it's too much for you emotionally, walk away for awhile and allow yourself time to calm down. Make us understand how you feel on your most passionate subject, rather than railing against those who don't share your beliefs entirely. You've got the vocabulary to say the same things a little differently. Like my mom always tells me, "it's not what you say, it's how you say it". You'll feel a lot better about it, too, when you find you're understood... even if some folks don't agree with your stance. (And yep, ditto to you, Skyler and anybody else who decides to post in this thread. It's better that this be a place to share our thoughts and ideas... and I'd rather not have folks flaming each other.) |
