OK, I see that FOX and Viacom are demanding YouTube give them user ID info on users uploading episodes of 24 and Simpsons.
I understand piracy. But I DON'T understand why people are more concerned over someone seeing Simpsons without buying the DVD, than the pro-terrorist propaganda on YouTube.

~~~ EDIT BELOW ~~~
Could be that the leaders of the company are leftists.
Or else they are extremely politically correct or pro-multicultralism to the Nth degree, which means it's acceptable to host anti-American videos by our enemies, but not acceptable for Americans to put up videos critical of Islam.
See also (Then in one thread, we had articles about how liberals had some network yank parts from a TV movie that were critical of Bill Clinton.)
One of the members at LGF contacted the FBI about some terrorist threats found at You Tube. Here was his copy of the message he sent to the FBI
  • OT: LennySquiggy's email to the FBI!
    A pro-Islamist YouTube member using the name "lahoriatorontowala" has published a threat on YouTube.com, threatening terror attacks against US oil supply lines coming from Canada and Venezula.
    Here is the link to his profile:
    [Link: www.youtube.com...]
    Here is the text of his threat:
    "72 virgin" rant is typical American ignorance. Just like your name, you are an 'ASS'.Your language definitely represents who you represent. World will watch when we will bring American empire on ground zero. Take it as a challenge. Its not an empty rhetoric from a Canadian. Just to let you know, we are soon going to cut your oil supply from Canada and Venezvella.
    And here is the link to the video that this user's comment appears on. By the time you get this, you may have to scroll through several pages of comments to find it.
    Thank you for your time. I hope you follow up on this.
Maybe YouTube is just out for big advertising bucks, but I don't see how any company could let video of people being killed out on their site.
Libs are trying everything to stifle free speech. They want Fox News shut down so bad they can't stand it, but it's OK if they have Ted Turner's CNN, PBS, NPR, CBS, NBC, ABC...which are all slanted.
Plus they are still trying some Equal Time Act nonsense. They want a leftist liberal radio out there to "balance" what they call right wing talk radio. For one, lots of things are on talk radio, home improvment shows, computer/tech talk, business reports, gardening shows, etc. Their idea is to make it law, knowing leftist radio is a flop (Dead Air America went bankrupt). Well, if there is no leftist radio, then the law would make rightist shows fold. Nice plan huh? Except the people won't stand for the government telling us what to listen to.
Yeah, they want to use the Equal Time (aka Fairness Doctrine) thing to halt conservative speech on the radio. They were even trying to do that sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s.
I just came across this article (the link is to page ONE of a TWO page article):
Liberals Aren't Very Good At Talk Radio
Excerpt:
  • While liberals hold a virtual monopoly on broadcast television and print news, many on the left just can’t stomach the reality of a dominant conservative presence on talk radio.
    They want to give Mr. Franken and his pessimism and rage-filed talk radio comrades something they could not obtain on their own – market share.
    This is why liberals are so eager to bring back a roundly rejected and blatantly unconstitutional piece of government intrusiveness know as the Fairness Doctrine.
    And [Liberal Congressman Maurice] Hinchey is ready to do the heavy lifting with his Media Ownership Reform Act, which includes reinstatement of the doctrine.
    If it passes, the legislation would force radio stations that air conservative talk shows to also air liberal shows – regardless of listener interest or sponsor support.
    It’s a tried and true strategy intended to silence voices with whom Hinchey and his liberal brethren disagree.
    The doctrine was created by the Federal Communications Commission in 1949 to bring “balance” to political debate over the public airwaves.
What an admission:
  • Former Kennedy administration official Bill Ruder told Tony Snow for a 1993 Washington Times piece,
    “We had a massive strategy to use the fairness doctrine to challenge and harass the right-wing broadcasters, and hope the challenge would be so costly to them that they would be inhibited and decide it was too expensive to continue.”
This guy goes on to say something I tried explaining in the "Liberal media bias" thread,
  • The Fairness Doctrine was ultimately repealed in 1987 by the great enemy of foreign and domestic oppressor alike – Ronald Reagan. ...
    As a result, Rush Limbaugh exploded onto the scene and started what is now referred to as the “new media” providing detailed analysis and debate to encourage listeners to read between the lines of reports from the often liberal mainstream media.
    This deregulation of the radio industry also helped revitalize AM radio, which was dying during the 1970s thanks to the newly popular static-free FM stations.
If you don't publicize violence, then it's not happening. Sure. :rolleyes2: :crazy:
France Bans Citizen Journalists from Reporting Violence
  • The French government, in inimitable French fashion, have decided that they can prevent more riots like the intifada that tore apart French suburbs in 2005 by cracking down on free speech: France bans citizen journalists from reporting violence. ...
    Quote:
    The French Constitutional Council has approved a law that criminalizes the filming or broadcasting of acts of violence by people other than professional journalists.
    The law could lead to the imprisonment of eyewitnesses who film acts of police violence, or operators of Web sites publishing the images, one French civil liberties group warned on Tuesday.
    The council chose an unfortunate anniversary to publish its decision approving the law, which came exactly 16 years after Los Angeles police officers beating Rodney King were filmed by amateur videographer George Holliday on the night of March 3, 1991. The officers’ acquittal at the end on April 29, 1992 sparked riots in Los Angeles.
... But I DON'T understand why people are more concerned over someone seeing Simpsons without buying the DVD, than the pro-terrorist propaganda on YouTube.
From Jihad Watch
Congressman introduces legislation to stop Internet jihad
Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA) has introduced legislation (H.Res.224) dealing with the explosion of jihadi propaganda videos on video sharing sites such as YouTube.
An aide to Congressman Shuster explains:
  • First and foremost, this bill would express the "sense of Congress" that these sites should take action against jihadi propaganda. It is not binding and does not have the power of law to compel or censor the Internet.
    We even state in the legislation that Congress should be very hesitant in taking any steps towards the regulation of content on the Internet. Instead, the resolution urges the owners of these websites to realize that they are hosting jihadist propaganda and take action to remove or flag these videos.
    The congressman wants to start a debate in Congress on how terrorists use the Internet to spread their ideology, radicalize their audience and recruit members. He hopes this legislation will start that debate.
Good. I hope it does.
A press release from the congressman's office:
  • Shuster Introduces Legislation to Fight Terrorists’ Use of the Internet Takes Action Against the Online Jihad
    Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Bill Shuster (R-PA-09), a member of the House Anti-Terrorism Caucus, introduced legislation urging owners of video-trading websites like You Tube to take action to remove jihadi propaganda videos.
    “The war against Islamic radicalism is both a shooting war and a battle of ideology. Our enemies understand that they cannot defeat us face to face on the battleground, so they have created a new battlefield on the Internet,” Shuster said.
    “Terrorists hope that by opening this new front, their view of the world will prevail. It is up to the owners and users of video-trading sites to remain vigilant and help to deny our enemies this victory,” Shuster said.
    Jihadi terrorist organizations have long understood the benefits of the Internet to spread their cause. Jihadi sites allow terrorists to fundraise and distribute propaganda. They also facilitate the radicalization, recruitment and training of prospective terrorists. The popularity, ease of use, and negligible cost of video-sharing websites like YouTube and LiveLeak have provided yet another channel for terrorists to spread their ideology of hate.
    Terrorist organizations including Al-Qaeda have set up sophisticated media operations whose mission is to create and distribute jihadi propaganda and training materials on the Internet.
    Shuster’s legislation would express Congress’ desire to see the corporate owners of video-sharing website take action to remove jihadi videos from their sites. Additionally, the legislation encourages website owners to cooperate with law enforcement if their sites users are found to participate in terrorism.
    “I doubt that the American public in World War II would have accepted the major media outlets of the time distributing Nazi propaganda at face value,” Shuster added.
    “Times have changed, media has evolved, but the fact remains – terrorists hope their supporters see these videos and are encouraged to attack Western interests. These videos aid the enemy and they must be confronted.”
And here is the text of the resolution itself:
  • 110TH CONGRESS 1ST SESSION
    H. RES. 224
    Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that corporate owners of websites that share user-posted videos should take action to remove jihadi propaganda.
    IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
    Mr. SHUSTER submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce
    RESOLUTION
    Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that corporate owners of websites that share user-posted videos should take action to remove jihadi propaganda.
    Whereas since the World Wide Web’s public release in 1991, the Internet has evolved into a revolutionary tool to facilitate the free access and distribution of information instantaneously and electronically to peoples all over the world;
    Whereas the Internet has created a global community that has become the cornerstone of commerce, speech, and culture for the Twenty-first Century;
    Whereas jihadi terrorist organizations throughout the world have taken advantage of the Internet’s anonymity, low cost, and lack of regulation to raise funds as well as radicalize, recruit, and train potential members to join their organizations and participate in violent jihad against the West;
    Whereas terrorist organizations including Al-Qaeda have organized
    media operations such as as-Sahab, Sawt al-Khilafa (Voice of the Caliphate), and the Global Islamic Media Front (GIMF) to create and distribute jihadi propaganda and training materials on the Internet;
    Whereas jihadi terrorist media operations continue to utilize video and media sharing websites such as YouTube, Liveleak, Google Video, and others to spread their message of hate, propagandize their insurgent operations, and facilitate the training of prospective terrorists;
    Whereas the use of the Internet by jihadi organizations who seek the destruction of America has been identified by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM); as well as private organizations including the SITE Institute (Search for International Terrorist Entities), the Society for Internet Research, and the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) as a major threat to American troops, homeland security and our success in the Global War on Terror;
    Whereas social networking video distribution websites generally reserve the right to remove objectionable material; and
    Whereas many websites have recognized the threat these videos pose and have taken steps to remove them from circulation: Now, therefore, be it
    Resolved, That it is the sense of the House of Representatives that—
    (1) terrorists view the Internet as a key tool in their ongoing jihad to recruit members, spread information, and distribute propaganda for their cause, and, in doing so, they have turned the World Wide Web into a new battleground in the War on Terror;
    (2) in a time of war, terrorist videos amount to enemy communications;
    (3) while Congress should not regulate the Internet, the owners of websites that share user posted videos should exercise proper corporate governance and take steps to remove enemy propaganda from their sites;
    (4) if the owners of these website suspect that a user on their site is a member of or affiliated with a known terrorist organization, they should cooperate with law enforcement and the intelligence community to report questionable postings; and
    (5) Congress recognizes and applauds the work of the SITE Institute, the Society for Internet Research, the Middle East Media Research Institute and others for their work in combating online jihad and creating a resource for public education of the terrorist’s use of the Internet in the War on Terror.
I wish they would just shut it down. It is crammed with copyrighted material and they don't do anything to stop it. If that was gone it'd be nothing but teenage idiots dancing to pop songs and thinking they are so funny, they upload it for the world to see how dull they really are. No one woudl watch it then. I don't see how Napster was sued, but YouTube is not touched. I wouldn't even care if My Space was shut down, look at all the sex predators who have kidnapped kids thru that site.
It's my understanding that this guy's anti-Koran site was banned even before the content was actually published.
Web host suspends site planned for anti-Koran film
  • AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A U.S.-based web service, which Islam critic and Dutch right-wing lawmaker Geert Wilders planned to use to show his film critical of the Koran, said on Saturday that it had inactivated the site due to complaints.
    "This site has been suspended while Network Solutions is investigating whether the site's content is in violation of the Network Solutions Acceptable Use Policy," the company said on the site www.fitnathemovie.com.
    Wilders, who has given few details about his 15-minute film, has said he plans to release "Fitna" on the Internet before the end of the month after Dutch broadcasters declined to show it. Fitna is a Koranic term sometimes translated as "strife."
    Wilders still plans to show his film despite the setback, Dutch agency ANP reported.
    "If need be, I will personally distribute DVDs in the Dam," ANP quoted him as saying. The Dam is the central square in Amsterdam, popular with both the Dutch and tourists.
    Wilders' film has triggered fury in the Muslim world. The Dutch government has distanced itself from Wilders' views, fearing a backlash against the country in the Muslim world, similar to that against Denmark in 2006 after newspapers there published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.
    On Saturday, about a thousand Dutch gathered in the Dam to protest against Wilders and his film.
    The film is not so much about Muslims as about the Koran, Wilders wrote in a commentary in Dutch daily De Volkskrant on Saturday. He said Fitna was a last warning for the West.
    Wilders had previously warned of a "tsunami of Islamisation" in a country home to almost one million Muslims.
    He has been under heavy guard due to Islamic death threats since the 2004 murder of Dutch director Theo van Gogh, who made a film critical of Islam's treatment of women.
Google's YouTube Hosts Taliban's Official Channel
  • 'm bumping the post. This is too important. This is either the official YouTube account for the Taliban or it's by a fan passing it off as official. Either way, which part of it's illegal to provide business services to the Taliban and their supporters does Google not get?
    One is left to wonder whether Google's YouTube is one of the 200 or so Islamist extremist English language websites that the Saudis claim now outnumber similar Arabic websites?
    ----
    Adil Watanmal, the official Taliban webmaster known for such wonderful sites as http://www.alemarah.info,
    has opened a Youtube channel.
    http://www.youtube.com/user/TheIslamicEmirate
    Which is from "The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan" which is the name of the shadow government of the Taliban.
    We'd just like to thank Youtube for giving an officially sanctioned terrorist entity with whom we are at war a nice free platform from which to spread its propaganda.
    End sarcasm.
