This thread may be eventually merged in the "Kabbalah" thread which is in the Corkboard forum. Madonna sang on her American Life album that she's not a Christian or a Jew, but during the adoption controversy, to placate Yohane Banda, she said she'd be happy to teach David Banda about Jesus because she believes in Jesus too. Then on her trip to Israel, she said she's an "ambassador for Judaism." Now she's saying she won't celebrate Christmas because it conflicts with Kabblah. Does any of this make sense to anyone? I don't think Yohane Banda would be happy that Madonna will not let his son celebrate the birthday of Jesus. Oh, oh - I have to wonder, in light of this, will that Madonna fan set up his Madonna Christmas tree this year? Madonna Doesn't Celebrate Christmas

She is such a...horrible person. I would use stronger language, but I will be nice(er). I mean, there is nothing really wrong with not celebrating Christmas - plenty of people don't, and there are people around the world that do, but don't put as much significance as we Americans do (when I lived in Japan, they celebrated it, but it wasn't seen as a religious holiday and was not as big as it is here). The problem I have with Madonna is that she is doing it for what I feel are the wrong reasons. One, she kept saying that the Kabbalah was NOT a religion, and that she was still a Catholic. NOW she is saying - or rather having her husband say - that Kabbalah does not allow the celebration of Christmas. ??? How does a 'philosophy' dictate the celebration of religious holidays? I could understand it if she decided not to celebrate the materialistic aspects of Christmas - the presents, Santa-themed decorations, etc - but I think it also has to do with her snubbing Christianity. Like she's too good to celebrate a Christian holiday. I doubt she's banning Christmas due to wanting to celebrate it as the birthday of Jesus instead of it being a holiday in which you give and receive presents. She's materialistic all other days of the year. If they don't want to be Christians, then FINE, I don't care - just be HONEST about whatever religion you choose to practice. Whether the hag likes it or not, this proves that to her, the Kabbalah IS a religion. She also needs to get over the whole 'I want to be Jewish' thing. She keeps denying it, but it's so obvious that she wants to be one. She'd be a discredit to Jews everywhere. |

Also, Jews celebrate Channakah around the same time. I no longer celebrate holidays anymore myself, and in fact my mother and I haven't had a big holiday to-do in over 5 years. And it suits us both fine, as we simply can't afford to have such celebrations anymore. Ditto for birthdays, pretty much. People are generally surprised when I say that I don't really celebrate the holidays, and ask me "why?" in a tone of voice like I just confessed that I shot a puppy. It's too expensive and it's just not a big deal to me anymore. Christmas, Halloween, etc. are more for kids than for grownups, anyway. |

I had forgotten to mention that she did not mention that they would celebrate Chanukah instead of Christmas - if they were true Jews, then that's what they'd celebrate. |

Guy is a moron. Once they stopped giving presents they enjoyed themselves more, whatever. They give themselves mansions, limos, and luxuries every other day so what is ONE day without gifts? Wednesday just got herself a $30,000 toenail paintjob, so I doubt not giving her a prezzie on the 25th is a big deal. Yes she is a lying c**t, telling David's father that she will teach him about Christianity, then does this. Let's see if she shows up at any Christmas parties for the publicity shots. |

I liked the headline: Madonna the Grinch - there's a funny drawing of Manny on that page. If Guy and Man-donna are not celebrating Christmas anymore, why did Guy Ritchie just the other day take Rocco and Lourdes to see the Christmas movie "Fred Claus?" (Guy Ritchie Takes Lourdes, Rocco to see Movie 'Fred Claus', Guy Ritchie Takes Kids to See 'Fred Claus')I bet some of Madonna's dim witted fans will mail her Christmas cards. Lady Chadwick, I was thinking what you were but didn't post it earlier: It's funny that Manny and Guy say they don't want to celebrate Christmas, and so they stopped exchanging presents. I know the stated reason was that it conflicts with Kabbalah, but I detect an undertone of dismay over materialism - and yet, the rest of the year, Madonna spends butt-loads of money on herself, and I also recalled the spa trip for Lourdes that was over $10,000. According to news stories from a year or two ago, Madonna got Lourdes a credit card with a $10,000 limit. So Madonna and her kids get Christmas year 'round, if you're looking at things gift-wise. I guess being overly materialistic the rest of the year is fine with Madonna. Madonna cancels kids' Christmas
True. On a related note, there are some couples where one partner is Jewish, the other Christian, and they compromise by celebrataing both holidays. I'm guessing that some Messianic Jews celebrate both as well. Maybe next Madonna will insist that although she's a Kabbalist, that she's adopted the Jehovah's Witness practice of refusing to celebrate birthdays. On that "Madonna is a Grinch" page I linked to above, one visitor actually said,

Its another outrageous publicity stunt to get attension from the press, (to hurt religious sentiment once again) But no one is getting hurt except, shes trick or treating Davids Dad. first article reads no gifts then the second says only 3 gifts! HAG can't makeup her mind! dumb! we don't celebrate either but for the fun of the season we buy some gifts anyways and bake a cake. |

I remember seeing that '3 presents only thing' on ONTD, rolling my eyes, and then thinking of Joan Crawford in 'Mommie Dearest' where she told her daughter Christina that she had to give away all but one of her birthday presents. I think the hag thinks that by limiting presents, it makes her look frugal and old money, but it does not. She is still as tacky, materialistic, selfish and nouveau riche as they come, and nothing will ever change that. |

I've seen some bios on Crawford. According to one, not only did Crawford's kids - Christine and I forget the names of the other ones - have to give away presents, but Crawford made each kid choose his/her favorite, and then he/she had to give the favorite one away. I can understand a parent not wanting to spoil her kids or trying to raise them not to be materialistic, but depriving them of gifts at Christmas and birthdays (or putting very restrictive caps on the amounts) seems rather Scrooge-ish to me and a bit excessive. Besides, Lourdes already has problems - supposedly, according to news stories, Man-donna gave the kid a credit card with a $10k limit, then there was the $10- $30k spa birthday trip, and this old chestnut (spoken by Lourdes to a waiter):

Holidays at Manny's home = no fun (if you're wanting to celebrate). A merry Madonna Christmas - macrobiotic lunch, no TV and slim pickings under the tree It's a very long article, and I'm going to only paste in a few parts.

Not celebrating X-mas is her publicity stunt, but she sure behaves like a true Christian temporarily by confessing on her acceptance speech for her trophy RRHF, to taking drugs, what a hypocrite! What a way to get away from your past! |

She's pretty much Joan Crawford without the talent. I mean, the least she could do is let them celebrate Hanukkah or something. They can still celebrate WITHOUT presents. Christmas is not just about presents. |

I wonder if that includes Lourdes and Mercy? I don't think it's very fair that David and Rocco come home and tell the girls all about their presents, and all that food, etc. |
