Madonna Refuses to Celebrate Christmas

This thread may be eventually merged in the "Kabbalah" thread which is in the Corkboard forum.
Madonna sang on her American Life album that she's not a Christian or a Jew, but during the adoption controversy, to placate Yohane Banda, she said she'd be happy to teach David Banda about Jesus because she believes in Jesus too.

Then on her trip to Israel, she said she's an "ambassador for Judaism."

Now she's saying she won't celebrate Christmas because it conflicts with Kabblah.

Does any of this make sense to anyone?

I don't think Yohane Banda would be happy that Madonna will not let his son celebrate the birthday of Jesus.

Oh, oh - I have to wonder, in light of this, will that Madonna fan set up his Madonna Christmas tree this year?

Madonna Doesn't Celebrate Christmas
  • Posted by Mitch Michaels on 11.20.2007

    Oh the irony...

According to Madonna's husband Guy Richie, the family no longer celebrates Christmas. Part of the reason is their religion, Kabbalah (a mystical offshoot of Judaism), which doesn't recognize any Christian holidays. Madonna and Richie's three children, ages 2 to 11, stopped receiving gifts for the holiday two years ago.

According to Richie (speaking at the premier of Fred Claus), "We canceled Christmas two years ago in our household. Once we canceled it we stopped all the presents, and once we stopped all the presents we started enjoying ourselves more."

She is such a...horrible person. I would use stronger language, but I will be nice(er).

I mean, there is nothing really wrong with not celebrating Christmas - plenty of people don't, and there are people around the world that do, but don't put as much significance as we Americans do (when I lived in Japan, they celebrated it, but it wasn't seen as a religious holiday and was not as big as it is here).

The problem I have with Madonna is that she is doing it for what I feel are the wrong reasons. One, she kept saying that the Kabbalah was NOT a religion, and that she was still a Catholic. NOW she is saying - or rather having her husband say - that Kabbalah does not allow the celebration of Christmas. ??? How does a 'philosophy' dictate the celebration of religious holidays? I could understand it if she decided not to celebrate the materialistic aspects of Christmas - the presents, Santa-themed decorations, etc - but I think it also has to do with her snubbing Christianity. Like she's too good to celebrate a Christian holiday.

I doubt she's banning Christmas due to wanting to celebrate it as the birthday of Jesus instead of it being a holiday in which you give and receive presents. She's materialistic all other days of the year. If they don't want to be Christians, then FINE, I don't care - just be HONEST about whatever religion you choose to practice. Whether the hag likes it or not, this proves that to her, the Kabbalah IS a religion.

She also needs to get over the whole 'I want to be Jewish' thing. She keeps denying it, but it's so obvious that she wants to be one. She'd be a discredit to Jews everywhere.

Also, Jews celebrate Channakah around the same time. I no longer celebrate holidays anymore myself, and in fact my mother and I haven't had a big holiday to-do in over 5 years. And it suits us both fine, as we simply can't afford to have such celebrations anymore. Ditto for birthdays, pretty much.

People are generally surprised when I say that I don't really celebrate the holidays, and ask me "why?" in a tone of voice like I just confessed that I shot a puppy. It's too expensive and it's just not a big deal to me anymore. Christmas, Halloween, etc. are more for kids than for grownups, anyway.

I had forgotten to mention that she did not mention that they would celebrate Chanukah instead of Christmas - if they were true Jews, then that's what they'd celebrate.

Guy is a moron. Once they stopped giving presents they enjoyed themselves more, whatever. They give themselves mansions, limos, and luxuries every other day so what is ONE day without gifts? Wednesday just got herself a $30,000 toenail paintjob, so I doubt not giving her a prezzie on the 25th is a big deal. Yes she is a lying c**t, telling David's father that she will teach him about Christianity, then does this.
Let's see if she shows up at any Christmas parties for the publicity shots.

I liked the headline:

Madonna the Grinch - there's a funny drawing of Manny on that page.

If Guy and Man-donna are not celebrating Christmas anymore, why did Guy Ritchie just the other day take Rocco and Lourdes to see the Christmas movie "Fred Claus?" (Guy Ritchie Takes Lourdes, Rocco to see Movie 'Fred Claus', Guy Ritchie Takes Kids to See 'Fred Claus')

I bet some of Madonna's dim witted fans will mail her Christmas cards.

Lady Chadwick, I was thinking what you were but didn't post it earlier:

It's funny that Manny and Guy say they don't want to celebrate Christmas, and so they stopped exchanging presents.

I know the stated reason was that it conflicts with Kabbalah, but I detect an undertone of dismay over materialism - and yet, the rest of the year, Madonna spends butt-loads of money on herself, and I also recalled the spa trip for Lourdes that was over $10,000.

According to news stories from a year or two ago, Madonna got Lourdes a credit card with a $10,000 limit.

So Madonna and her kids get Christmas year 'round, if you're looking at things gift-wise. I guess being overly materialistic the rest of the year is fine with Madonna.

Madonna cancels kids' Christmas
  • Followers of Kabbalah only celebrate Jewish holy days. They do not recognise Christmas or Easter as they do not believe that Jesus is the son of God. Madonna has been involved with Kabbalah since the late 90s.
I'll say it again: I don't think Yohane Banda would approve.

True.

On a related note, there are some couples where one partner is Jewish, the other Christian, and they compromise by celebrataing both holidays. I'm guessing that some Messianic Jews celebrate both as well.

Maybe next Madonna will insist that although she's a Kabbalist, that she's adopted the Jehovah's Witness practice of refusing to celebrate birthdays.

On that "Madonna is a Grinch" page I linked to above, one visitor actually said,
  • i think she's [Madonna is] a good mother....sure she has strikt rules...but i'm sure we won't see lourdes in ten years acting like lindsay lohan or britney spears.

I have to agree with this writer who shot back with-
  • In ten years Lourdes could very easily rebel. Madonna had a decent upbringing as well and look at the crap she's been involved in.

Other reader comments were good, such as
  • she is a bad mother.

Posted by: anonymous on 11/21/2007 02:27 PM

She's gotten flakey over the years... the no tv, now the no christmas... Geez, this celebrity stardom bullsh*t really gets to these people. Madonna was the biggest slut bag, offensive singer out there and now she's so strict? What gives?

    Posted by: K on 11/21/2007 05:57 PM

Madonna is pretending to be "Jewish".

Posted by: anonymous on 11/21/2007 06:04 PM

Madonna is trying to be so high-brow and I'm so tired of her. Since she's a "Jew" now, she doesn't involve herself with Christian tradition. Wonder if she's doing Hanukkah. Damn she got boring and prentious in her old age...and yeah, she's old.

Madonna & Guy Ritchie only give their kids 3 Christmas presents
  • Millionaire singer Madonna, and her film director husband Guy Ritchie clearly aren’t a couple that lavish their kids with gifts at Christmas time.

“The kids are only allowed three presents,” Guy Ritchie, 39, told Extra in an interview that aired on Friday.

But the couple’s children — Lourdes, 11, Rocco, 7 and adopted son David Banda, 2 — don’t seem to mind.

“As long as the kids get three presents at Christmas, everyone’s being happy,” he said.

‘Snatch’ director Ritchie also hinted that the he and Madonna might be planning another child.

“Who knows?” he said. “My wife and myself like kids so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

Ritchie also played down rumors that he and his family are converting to Judaism.

“I don’t think anyone’s converted to Judaism in my family,” he said. “I’m completely unaware of that. I have not converted to Judaism and neither has my wife.”

I remember seeing that '3 presents only thing' on ONTD, rolling my eyes, and then thinking of Joan Crawford in 'Mommie Dearest' where she told her daughter Christina that she had to give away all but one of her birthday presents. I think the hag thinks that by limiting presents, it makes her look frugal and old money, but it does not. She is still as tacky, materialistic, selfish and nouveau riche as they come, and nothing will ever change that.

I've seen some bios on Crawford. According to one, not only did Crawford's kids - Christine and I forget the names of the other ones - have to give away presents, but Crawford made each kid choose his/her favorite, and then he/she had to give the favorite one away.

I can understand a parent not wanting to spoil her kids or trying to raise them not to be materialistic, but depriving them of gifts at Christmas and birthdays (or putting very restrictive caps on the amounts) seems rather Scrooge-ish to me and a bit excessive.

Besides, Lourdes already has problems - supposedly, according to news stories, Man-donna gave the kid a credit card with a $10k limit, then there was the $10- $30k spa birthday trip, and this old chestnut (spoken by Lourdes to a waiter):

Holidays at Manny's home = no fun (if you're wanting to celebrate).

A merry Madonna Christmas - macrobiotic lunch, no TV and slim pickings under the tree

It's a very long article, and I'm going to only paste in a few parts.
  • The friend said: "They entertain very beautifully, but it is not what you would call conventional.

"A housekeeper will set out a great big table covered in stuff, all macrobiotic, which no one dares eat unless Madonna tucks in.

"They're all terrified of her. A uniformed butler serves the most incredible wines, which Guy loves but, again, Madonna barely touches."

Television is all but banned for the children.

If they use the computer, they are thoroughly policed and their time on it limited.

Nannies who applied recently for the job of helping to care for Madonna's brood were told that they could not have TVs or telephones in their rooms, as the mistress of the house felt it was an unhealthy distraction from family life.

Not celebrating X-mas is her publicity stunt,
but she sure behaves like a true Christian temporarily
by confessing on her acceptance speech for her trophy RRHF, to taking drugs, what a hypocrite!

What a way to get away from your past!

She's pretty much Joan Crawford without the talent. I mean, the least she could do is let them celebrate Hanukkah or something. They can still celebrate WITHOUT presents. Christmas is not just about presents.

Who knows if this is true or not.

Guy Ritchie invites Madonna to Christmas lunch

Guy invites Madonna to spend Christmas as a family for kids
  • Guy Ritchie, who recently divorced Madonna, is said to have drawn plans to have the entire family, including the singer and her daughter, together under the Christmas tree.

The Brit director is to invite Madonna and Lourdes, her 12-year-old daughter from a past relationship, to show sons, Rocco, eight, and adopted David Banda, three, that their family still stood together, despite the split, according to a source.

Guy, who had allegedly sited the Queen of Pop’s obsession with the Kabbalah religion as one of the prime reasons for their split, will reportedly be hosting the first traditional holiday since their Kabbalah-following family had never celebrated with turkey, tinsel and presents.

“Guy will have the boys at Christmas time. He wants to treat them like kings and celebrate the old-fashioned way. It’s not something that’s happened in the past because it’s not in accordance with Kabbalah,” the ‘Daily Express’ quoted a source as saying.

“I believe he has asked his ex-wife and her daughter to join them. Even though she doesn’t celebrate, Guy thinks it’s a good way to try to move on in a civilised way and prove to the kids that even though their parents are not married any more they are still their top priority.”

The source added: “Guy is very level-headed and I think he wants them all to move on to the next level and draw a line under what’s happened. He wants to show the children that he and their mum are devoted to them by getting them all together for Christmas fun,” the source added.

Madonna lets Guy Ritchie take the kids on Christmas day

Guy Ritchie Gets the Kids During Christmas

Guy Ritchie planning ultimate family Christmas after coming to festive agreement with Madonna over kids
  • In the Ritchie household, we always thought Madonna wore the trousers...

But this year she and her ex, Guy, have agreed that he will have the kids over for Christmas.

Film director Guy is thrilled to have the couple's children over the festive break, including the big day.

Advertisement - article continues below »

After thrashing out an arrangement with Madonna, Guy is now planning the "ultimate traditional family Christmas".

We're told: "Guy is absolutely chuffed to bits, and cannot quite believe he and Madonna came to such an amicable arrangement. He is a huge fan of Christmas and wants to do everything by the book, very traditionally.

"This means stockings hanging from the kids' beds, presents under the tree and a massive turkey, Brussels sprouts, chestnuts, the works.

"When Guy and Madonna were together they didn't really celebrate Christmas Day due to Madonna's staunch Kabbalah beliefs.

"Now that he's a single man, Guy is determined to spoil them rotten and give the youngsters a Christmas they'll never forget."

I wonder if that includes Lourdes and Mercy? I don't think it's very fair that David and Rocco come home and tell the girls all about their presents, and all that food, etc.

Ritchie 'to spend Christmas with Madonna for kids'
  • The former couple, which split in 2008 after almost eight years of marriage, is said to be planning to reunite on 25 December (10) for the sake of their son Rocco, Madonna's daughter Lourdes and adopted tots David and Mercy.

But Ritchie's plans have angered his new girlfriend Jacqui Ainsley, who will not be joining her partner, according to Britain's Mail On Sunday.

A source tells the publication, "Jacqui was really looking forward to spending Christmas with her man but is now feeling very much left out in the cold.

"Guy is excited about spoiling his children on Christmas Day. He has told Jacqui he’s spending it with his ex-wife for the sake of the children - but it hasn’t gone down at all well."
