This might not have rubbed me the wrong way except for stuff like she paid around $10,000 (or $1,000?) for some genuine mink eye lashes for some tour several years ago.

Oh, I should have copied the wine story to this thread. Let me see if I can find the wine links.

Madonna Refused To Pay For Simpson Letters
  • Madonna refused to buy letters written by Wallis Simpson as she researched her new movie W.E. - and simply memorised their content instead.

The Material Girl makes her directorial debut in the period piece, which is based on the romance between British monarch King Edward Viii and American divorcee Wallis Simpson, whose relationship forced the royal to abdicate the throne in 1936.

Madonna studied various scripts and notes while writing the movie - but she refused to pay for the historical musings.

She tells Britain's Glamour magazine, "I'm sure I've read every book on the Duchess of Windsor. And once people knew I was doing research and writing the script they wanted to sell me their letters.

"I didn't purchase any, but I read them, noted the information and then said thanks, but no thanks. I watched every documentary ever made, and stayed at the house in the south of France that they lived in during the war - it's now owned by (Russian businessman) Roman Abramovich. I tried to go to places that they were at and soak up their energy. Of course, I wasn't allowed in Windsor Castle."

  • Madonna, the Queen of Pop, brings her own wine and glasses to dinner for date at a New York restaurant.

    By Tim Walker
    7:28AM GMT 21 Dec 2011

Madonna is said to be the richest woman in showbusiness, but she knows how to take care of the pennies.

This week, the Queen of Pop, 53, visited Osteria Cotta in New York, with her boyfriend, Brahim Zaibat, 24. Fellow diners were surprised when she “brought her own red wine in a bag, along with two beautiful crystal glasses”.

One claims: “They poured the wine and immediately put the bottle back in the bag, so nobody could see what it was. At the end, they took the empty wine bottle and the glasses with them.”

Zaibat, a dancer, incidentally, picked up the bill, paying with his credit card. Madonna is known to drink only Kabbalah water, which costs £6 a bottle, as it has been blessed.

Madonna's entourage refuse to pay £1000 bar bill in Italy /Staff on MDNA tour leave bar without paying
  • Claims have been made that eight of the material girls entourage on her current MDNA tour walked out of a bar without paying the £1000 bill.

The all night bender took place in the cities swanky Flo lounge bar in Italy. Five bottles of high end vodka formed the whopping bill which was then challenged by the manager when the girls went onto tell him that they do not pay for drinks whilst on tour.

After leaving the bar without paying the manager decided to turn up to their hotel the next morning demanding the cash. Members of the team then scraped together only £645 of the bill.

Madonna’s team insist an agreement had been made between the bar and the management before the celebration in the bar.

Madonna and her entourage were seen in a vintage car stopping traffic and making motorists gawp whilst filming the new video, her breasts yet again on show.

...a senior member of her management team should have paid the whole bill including generous gratuity without hesitation...

...instead, it was probably the lower level, low paid, members of her troupe that kicked in their own cash when the bar owner showed up...

...yikes I hope we're seeing the final days of this ridiculous, nasty woman's recording and touring 'career'...

Jesus this woman has hundreds of millions of dollars. I simply do not understand why she's being so frugal. Her entourage in particular seems selfish, immature, disrespectful and childish.

Madonna is such a hypocrite. She's a committed leftist who calls Michael Moore a hero and has voiced support for the Occupy Movement. She fancies herself as one who stands up for the "99%" against the rich who are exploiting them. Yet this woman charges $300 to $400 for a concert ticket even though she is one of the wealthiest women in the world. What a greedy cheapskate. If she really cares about the 99%, why doesn't she drastically reduce her concert ticket prices so poor people could attend? She doesn't need the money, and she's an Obama supporter. He said we should be spreading the wealth, so why doesn't Madonna do that by lower her ticket prices?

Welcome to the board, Music Man! :) And Madonna probably wouldn't lower ticket prices because it's too much like right. She has too much greed within herself to do the right thing. Either that or so few people actually attend her concerts that if the price were lower, it wouldn't be much of a profit. I dunno. :dunno:

Thanks for the welcome.

From all I've read, it seems Madonna's concerts are pretty heavily attended. After 30 years on the scene, she's accumulated a pretty significant hardcore fan base. True, she is not as popular as she used to be, but that's because she's driven away most of her casual fans by her antics. And I don't think she's winning many new fans either. But the loyal, fanatical base that she's had for many years is still with her. This is how it works when Madonna pulls out all her raunchy stunts: Normal people who might be casual fans are driven away by her behavior, but her loyal hardcore base love her all the more for it. That's why she can still charge so much money and her loyal fanbase will pay....they want to see her perform live so they can witness her next raunchy and/or controversial stunt. Lots of suckers in this world.

...while I agree that m still has a hardcore following that will pay rip-off ticket prices to see her, I think even some of those have started to abandon her on this 'MDNA' tour...

...after the tickets initially went onsale there was the usual PR hack hype that tickets were selling out quickly and it would be the biggest tour of all time or some such cr*pola...

...however, as the weeks progressed toward the kick-off of the tour, there were much more subdued reports of tour dates being 'combined' or cancelled and then after the tour was underway we learned that tickets were going unsold even on the day of certain performances....

...let's face it, most of those initial 'sell-out' ticket sales were block purchases by commercial resellers to build hype for the tour and create the illusion of sell-out demand....

...lately, I haven't seen any hype about this being the biggest tour ever or even m's biggest tour...that's the thing about the music biz - PR hype only goes so far....sooner or later you have to deliver the goods...and this tour just isn't cutting the kind of numbers worth bragging about....

For anyone who'd like to read more:

Page 7 or 8 starts MDNA tour ticket information, and previous pages in that same thread discuss how prior tours did not sell out.

Our list of cheap and generous celebrity tippers 25
  • June 2015

    BY LIZ BRAUN, POSTMEDIA NETWORK

... And who stiffs the working stiffs?

What's really interesting about the lists kept by food service workers — oh yes, Tiger Woods and Mick Jagger, the fact that you are both tighter than the bark to a tree is well-documented — is that they shake down just the way you might imagine.

Celebs who leave the impression that they are vain and mean-spirited often turn out to be lousy tippers, and the generous and humorous are generally great tippers.

Yes, that's a generalization, and there are some surprises, such as Russell Crowe.

Although he's been written up more than once for snarky behaviour, the Aussie actor once left a $1,000 tip in an establishment in Wales.

Who else is good to waiters?

According to smosh.com, Jay-Z famously left a $50,000 tip after ordering $250,000 worth of champagne during celebrations for the release of Watch The Throne.

The Guardian mentions Johnny Depp, who once left a $4,000 tip at a steakhouse, as well as David Beckham and Drew Barrymore on their list of generous tippers.

Taylor Swift and Bill Murray are on several lists, as are Dan Aykroyd, Charlie Sheen, Hulk Hogan and Paris Hilton. All of them have been reported leaving generous tips to staff.

And then there are the skinflints.

It's particularly off-putting to find the rich and famous pinching pennies with food servers when you consider how many of those celebs were slinging hash to pay the rent on their way up.

Bill Cosby is mentioned on several sites for being a terrible tipper, and he allegedly once gave a bellhop who carried his six bags a whopping 50 cents. He also left a $3 tip on a meal that cost close to $400 and later drugged and sexually assaulted all the waitresses, the busboys, three chefs and the sommelier. Hahahaha. Calm down.

Short-tempered short guy Sean Penn left a big zero tip on a restaurant bill of $450. Both Britney Spears and Mariah Carey have reputations for being lousy tippers, and so does Madonna; Jeremy Piven was actually banned from all Nobu Restaurants at one time after he left no tip at all to the waiter at the Aspen Nobu, even though he and his large group of friends had been demanding guests. (Zimbio claims Piven left a DVD of his TV show, Entourage, as a tip; someone on staff apparently threw it at him as he left.)
