If you wish to post negative news stories, editorials, links, or opinions of Rush Limbaugh, please do not place them in this thread.
Please use the Critical of Rush Limbaugh/ GOP thread for that. Thank you. Rush Limbaugh has been in the news a lot lately.
(1) Limbaugh gave a speech to CPAC a few days ago (I watched most of it. Read transcript of Limbaugh's speech here);
(2) Limbaugh's comment about "wanting Obama to fail" has been willfully misinterpreted by liberals (especially the liberal MSM - main stream media), and
(3) Michael Steele, chair of the RNC, recently said some inflammatory things about Rush during a TV interview.
It's interesting to me that a Google News search for the name "Rush Limbaugh" resulted in mostly negative, or, in other words, mostly
> anti-Rush Limbaugh, > anti-Republican, > anti-conservative
news coverage showing up (and many are from sites that are purely liberal opinion sites and blogs, such as the barfy "Huffington Post.")
I am not seeing very many neutral or positive results about Rush turn up via Google News, and I refuse to paste in items that bash Rush.
Here are some links about some of these stories I mentioned at the top of the post:
Limbaugh Energizes Conservative Crowd - March 1, 2009
Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh energized the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday in Washington, DC. Limbaugh was the conference's keynote speaker.
Limbaugh attacked President Obama, saying quote, "he wants people in fear, angst and crisis, fearing the worst each and every day because that clears the decks for President Obama and his pals to come in with the answers, which are abject failures."
He was scheduled to speak 20 minutes, but he was still talking more than an hour later.
GOP Chairman Michael Steele and Pundit Rush Limbaugh in War of Words- March 3, 2009
It's an elephant-on-elephant slapfest - and the White House is likely loving every minute of it.
The Republican rumble pits conservative talk icon Rush Limbaugh against new GOP boss Michael Steele in an increasingly nasty war of words.
"I would be embarrassed to say that I'm in charge of the Republican Party in the sad-sack state that it's in," railed Limbaugh yesterday, adding he "might get out the hari-kari knife" if he had Steele's job.
Limbaugh lashed out at Steele on his radio show after the party boss slapped the talk legend's style during an interview Saturday.
Steele had insisted that he - and not Limbaugh - was at the helm of the party.
"Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer," Steele said on CNN. "Rush Limbaugh, his whole thing is entertainment. Yes, it's incendiary, yes, it's ugly."
That was enough to set off Limbaugh.
He accused Steele of being "gutless" and afraid to challenge President Obama.
Last night, Steele tried to call a truce. "I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh," he told politico.com. "I was maybe a little bit inarticulate...there was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership."
How Do You Like Rush Now? (On Steele's Apology) - By Matt Lewis
Mar 3rd 2009
It's intriguing to see how liberals descended on Rush Limbaugh's excellent speech at CPAC on Saturday.
Obama Cheif of Staff Rahm Emanuel is trying to declare Rush the leader of the GOP, which he seems to think would make it easier for him to skewer the party based on Limbaugh's supposedly divisive rhetoric.
Personally, I think that is evidence that he didn't listen to the speech.
The Huffington Post seems to be foaming at the mouth over the issue, with a giant front page story on the dust-up between Limbaugh and Michael Steele.
Steele himself made his comment while being grilled by D.L. Hughley and rapper Chuck D about whether Rush was the true leader of the GOP. Kos can't get past the talking points either, making a point to over emphasize the point by referring to Limbaugh as " GOP's real leader".
Speaking of Steele, he was right to apologize. His remarks crossed the line. Clearly, he was attempting to reach out to non-traditional voters, and part of his tactic was to concede some points to them (in an effort to cast himself -- and the GOP -- in a more "reasonable" manner than the stereotype).
It was a tough audience and a tough maneuver to attempt -- and he clearly didn't pull off the high-wire attempt.
Aside from being just plain wrong, there is also a strategic reason Steele had to apologize, and that is simply because no GOP chairman can afford to alienate the Republican Wing of the Republican Party.
Conservatives, in general, love Rush Limbaugh.
And while Steele may be rightly interested in growing the party, this cannot be accomplished by angering the largest contingency of voters who still (for now) comprise the GOP.
This, of course, was a forced error. There is clearly an orchestrated effort (pushed by Obama's team -- with the help of the media) to drive a wedge between Limbaugh and GOP leaders, including former Speaker Newt Gingrich, RNC chairman Steele, and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor.
... If this were just about Steele, I might think it was a coincidence.
Regardless, any Republican going on TV ought to be ready to answer the question: "Is Rush Limbaugh the GOP's leader."
Of course, nobody asked who the Democratic leader was two years ago. And we still don't know who is in charge of Congress and things like the stimulus bill (is it Obama or Pelosi???). ... Nobody ever said this would be fair ...
GOP chief [Steele] apologizes to Limbaugh - WASHINGTON — Two days after calling Rush Limbaugh a mere "entertainer" with an "incendiary" talk show, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele apologized and acknowledged the radio commentator as a "national conservative leader."
"To the extent that my remarks helped the Democrats in Washington to take the focus, even for one minute, off of their irresponsible expansion of government, I truly apologize," Steele said late Monday.
This is way bigger than Rush- March 1, 2009
by David Limbaugh
The Democrats, along with those on the right who seem more worried about incurring the disdain of the wrongheaded left than of their fellow patriots, are feverishly promoting their Saul Alinsky-inspired scheme to demonize and divide their most effective political opponents.
What would be amusing, were matters not so gravely serious today, is the utter juvenile transparency in the liberals' efforts to vilify Rush Limbaugh.
They've been doing it for 20 years, but this time, they're better organized and have a broader purpose.
So those who haven't had the courage to stand by him should understand that Rush is not the ultimate target here.
We all are – those, that is, who oppose their Marxist agenda and Stalinist tactics.
Have you noticed their coordinated effort to label Rush the leader of the Republican Party?
Do you think it's accidental that James Carville so describes him?
Do you think it's just coincidental that Obama called Rush out personally and that the entire flock of mainstream media sheep followed suit?
Is it just serendipitous that liberal Chris Matthews baits his guests nightly to castigate Rush?
Is it fortuitous that Obama's, er, ABC's George Stephanopoulos demands his guests, such as Republican Rep. Eric Cantor, to either defend or denounce Rush?
But again, they're not just after Rush. They want to destroy the Republican brand – as if they need any help doing that.
Rush is the target because he represents the real opposition. He's the leading voice for those who are really standing up for America and its founding ideals.
Too much of our opposition is nominal only.
Too much of our opposition is unaware we're in a war for the very survival of those precious principles.
While some Republican leaders have refused to join in the White House-orchestrated condemnation of Rush, a number of others haven't been so bold, presumably preferring to retain their credentials in polite/elitist society or afraid to incur the left's wrath.
No, let Rush have that all by himself.
Memo to the feckless on the right:
When Rush said he hopes Obama fails, his meaning was very clear.
He believes the abundantly obvious truth that Obama is trying to restructure America in the image of the central planners and social nihilists:
a radical growth in government and consequent reduction in the private sector and individual liberty,
a radical relaxation in the war on terror and other national security imperatives,
a radical push to diminish American sovereignty in favor of global entities on environmental matters and in deference to United Nations mandates on such distinctly internal matters as how parents raise their children,
a radical empowerment of labor unions,
a radical boost to the radical pro-abortion industry and death culture,
a radical homosexual agenda, and, ultimately, the abject bankruptcy of America.
Rush wants Obama to fail in his unabashed efforts to permanently turn this center-right nation radically toward the left. He does not want America to fail.
Rush is unabashedly rooting for America. And anyone with the slightest ability or moral clarity to make mental distinctions understands this.
Yet many have deliberately twisted Rush's meaning to suggest that he wants America, under Obama's presidency, to fail.
The dirty little secret is that many of the liberals making this specious argument are the very people who truly were rooting for America to fail when George W. Bush was president.
They were rooting for us to lose the war in Iraq. Harry Reid declared the war lost, you may recall.
And they were talking down the economy, even when it was humming.
These liberals are simply projecting their deplorable mindset onto Rush and other conservatives.
Because they wanted America to fail under Bush, they just assume Rush and other conservatives want America to fail under Obama.
Nothing could be farther from the truth.
So those of you on the right who are refusing to defend Rush by making this obvious distinction better wake up.
The people on the left making this point are the same ones who slandered President Bush by saying he started the Iraq war for oil or that he intentionally delayed federal aid to New Orleans' Katrina victims because a disproportionate number of them were African-Americans. Destructive, libelous rubbish!
It's time for you sycophants to understand who is trying to stand up for the America we believe in and that your sycophancy only enables those whose agenda cannot succeed without silencing the effective opposition.
Remember: To liberals, this isn't just about Rush – not even close. It's about you, me and anyone else who loves and defends those things – the Constitution, family values, the unique American culture, etc. – that make America unique.
It's time you represented the opposition, too, and directed your outrage at those who would use the full power of government to target individuals, whether they be Rush Limbaugh or Joe the Plumber.
