I'm tired of the media comparing every single female singer to Madonna. Madonna is used as the go-to comparison for every single article about female singers.
Even this thing says Swift has nothing in common with Man-donna, but it compares her to Man-donna ANYWAY!
Swift is not even a dance/pop singer. She does country music.
At least it points out that she surpasses or equals Man-donna.
Taylor Swift follows in footsteps of Madonna - November 29, 2013 by Bernard Zuel
Charting the rise of Taylor Swift, who is the first woman since Madonna to embark on a stadium tour of Australia
When your fourth album becomes the third of your records to reach No. 1 in the US - and the second to sell more than 1 million in a single week - and then repeats its chart-topping action around the world, you know you are a star.
When you made nearly $US60 million last year and your romantic travails, real or imagined by the tabloids, become widely understood jokes even at film and TV awards shows, you know you've made it into the zeitgeist. But when you find yourself being compared to Madonna, not because you've shocked a pope or donned an inappropriate leotard - not even for adopting an English accent and an African child almost simultaneously - but because you are the first female artist to be popular enough to fill stadiums in Australia since Ms Ciccone did it 20 years ago, then even the most cloth-eared among us must know something special is happening here.
Taylor Swift's coming tour of Australia and New Zealand will be in territory reserved for the likes of the Rolling Stones, U2 and Bon Jovi. While Beyonce and One Direction (featuring one former boyfriend) fill arenas and John Mayer (another) is just stepping up to that level, Swift is leaving them behind in a great rush.
t's not just wishful thinking. Her tour promoter, Michael Gudinski told trade magazine Billboard, ''I can honestly think of only a tiny handful of solo artists - male or female - who could fill stadium venues today.'' And it's his money he's gambling with, remember. Advertisement
Her previous tour promoter, Michael Coppel, told the same magazine nearly two years ago that Swift is one of the ''biggest-selling pop artists to tour Australia'' and predicted she would ''sell more tickets than Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have on any of their Australian tours''. And that was his money he was counting at the end of that tour, remember.
A review of a US stadium show on this tour had Rolling Stone gushing (''Seeing Taylor Swift live in 2013 is seeing a maestro at the top of her or anyone's game''), even amid the snarky comments. The review ended by describing Swift as, ''a true arena-rock goddess at an amazing peak''. Star power: Madonna.

This may be heady territory but it's not surprising. The 23-year-old has been working towards this for nearly 10 years.
She was 14 when she convinced her parents (both of whom have backgrounds in finance) to move from the Pennsylvania town of Wyomissing to Nashville, Tennessee, so she could pursue a career in country music. A career? Well, she'd already been writing songs for two years by this point in a style which would eventually become her signature: direct, personal and unafraid to tell those who had done her wrong that they were marked.
''When I started writing songs it was all to help me simplify really complicated emotions,'' Swift said last year. ''I would have a really hard day at school and you are dealing with like, rejection and insecurity and loneliness and all these really complicated things and I would say to myself, it's OK, you can write a song about this later when you get home.''
Some people punch walls, she writes a song. ''Yeah,'' she said with a dry delivery that suggested a sense of humour behind the immaculately presented veneer. ''I don't think I could get away with punching walls; I wouldn't be able to play guitar for very long.''
She was the first country artist to win one of those essentially stupid but also manifestly pop world-focused MTV Video Music Awards. And the Grammy Awards that were piling up soon didn't have to have ''country'' included in the title - including one for best video which encouraged Kanye West to make a fool of himself when he appeared on the stage during her acceptance speech to claim Beyonce should have won.
Nonetheless, the shift into a fiddle-free, electronics-enhanced, bouncy-and-danceable style on her recent album, Red, was startling to many. ''I was 22 when I was making my fourth record so I think at that point you have two choices,'' she said. ''You can either continue to make music the same way that you've done it for the first three records, or you can change and you can evolve.''
The audiences have gone with her as the sales and No. 1 record confirm. And it's a varied audience, too.
Being in control remains one of her strongest characteristics. She doesn't drink, swear or blaspheme but neither does she pontificate about any of them. She writes or co-writes all her songs and not just in the ''we'll let her put a word in the chorus and give her a credit'' way of some of her contemporaries (and many pop stars going back to Elvis Presley). Her songwriting has been publicly praised by Stevie Nicks and Kris Kristofferson and even the artist after whom she was named, James Taylor.
Not every former boyfriend who has figured in one of those songs would necessarily agree with the sentiment, though even they would have to concede the success. But even using that sentence says something about how Swift is both of the culture but also redefining it.
As she told Vanity Fair, there's a double standard going on here and she's not buying into it. ''For a female to write about her feelings,'' she said. ''And then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that's taking something that potentially should be celebrated - a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way - taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist.''
There's a song or two in that answer. And you know Swift could write it. And sell it. And then perform it in a stadium halfway around the world. Taylor Swift

Huh. She's not the new Vadgedonna - more like the new Olivia Newton-John, which is more fitting & downright likable.

'I have no female role models': Taylor Swift - who outsells Beyoncé, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga - reveals why she won't strip off in her music videos - By GEORGE STARK FOR MAILONLINE
PUBLISHED: 12:48 EST, 13 November 2014 | UPDATED: 13:50 EST, 13 November 2014
She may have successfully crossed over from her Country roots, but Taylor Swift is still the antithesis of the bubblegum pop star.
With her own business-savvy and genuine songwriting talents, she is a standout performer in her new genre, not to mention with record-breaking sales to match.
And in a new cover interview with Time Magazine Taylor truly sets herself apart by telling the publication that she feels she has no female role models in the music industry - and appears to criticize the overtly-sexual nature of her pop peers.
On having female role models, she said: 'We're taught to find examples for the way we want our lives to wind up. But I can't find anyone, really, who's had the same career trajectory as mine.'
'I just struggle to find a woman in music who hasn't been completely picked apart by the media, or scrutinized and criticized for aging, or criticized for fighting aging—it just seems to be much more difficult to be a woman in music and to grow older.'
Talking about her reluctance to sell herself as a sex object in her music videos and on stage, Taylor appeared to be casting judgement at some of her peers - perhaps even Madonna.
'I'm sure there will be things that my grandkids make fun of me for no matter what, but I'd really rather it be, "Look how awkward your dancing was in the Shake It Off video! You look so weird, Grandma!" rather than "Grandma, is that your nipple?"'.
Instead, Taylor spoke about her admiration for Law & Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay (whose character Olivia Benson, Taylor named her cat after).
'She’s one of the highest paid actresses actors in general, women or men on television, and she’s been playing this very strong female character for, what, 15 years now?,' she gushed.
But her lack of female role models doesn't mean to say Taylor isn't a girl's girl. Known for her close circle of famous BFFS, Taylor spoke about lovingly about her pals to the publication.

Almost any woman who shows up in the pop music business now, or after the 1980s, is automatically referred to as "the new Madonna," or "the next Madonna," when Madonna herself had plenty of successful or noteworthy female contemporaries, and ones who came before her.

If anything, she's more like Olivia Newton-John, back in the days when Madge was trying to get out of Michigan.
Even though so many people find her annoying/Barbie doll creepy, there's no stopping Swiftie now. Better her than Rihanna, J. Lo, Nicki Minaj & other hypersexual ones.

Taylor Swift Schools Madonna: Contrasting Approaches To Social Media - Jan 2015
Taylor Swift struck again over the holidays, pulling the heartstrings of fans and America by and large with the release of a video documenting her most recent random act of kindness fans are lovingly referring to as "Swiftmas".
Madonna, on the contrary, has taken a staunch self-aggrandizing approach to the promotion of her new album "Rebel Hearts" where she shared photos of Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and Bob Marley in what she claims were "fan-altered" photos. The two superstars have starkly contrasting approaches to social media: Taylor Swift projecting generosity & sincerity, Madonna projecting controversy.
On January 2nd, Madonna shared the altered images on her Instagram account, as what seemed like a salute to herself. Her less than admirable pass off was a bit reminiscent of primary school blame games. She responded with an apology of sorts saying, "I'm sorry. I'm not comparing myself to anyone. I'm admiring and acknowledging their Rebel Hearts. Am I saying I am them, NO. I'm saying they are Rebel Hearts too. And I didn't do it, my fans did. And I just re-posted those photos."
Taylor Swift, taking a completely different approach to fan engagement, took to her home in New York to create a personalized Christmas "Swifties" would never forget. She secret Santa shopped for unsuspecting fans who would receive a Santa emoji on one of their social media channels to be followed by a FedEx or personal delivery from Taylor Swift herself. Their reactions were documented in Swift's video released five days ago on her YouTube channel.
snip video of Swift
Madonna indeed exemplifies a rebel heart - it's a trademark of sorts for her career.
Unfortunately for her, her latest rebel yell wasn't so well received - especially not when her fans became the scapegoat.
While Madonna portrays herself as a leader to her followers, Taylor Swift, continues her open armed policy, aligning herself with her fans, suggesting she's one of them. Swift has remained a class act throughout the promotion of her hit album 1989 - further prove that grace and humility never go out of style. Taylor Swift continues Billboard reign in first week of 2015 - BY PIYA SINHA-ROY
LOS ANGELES Wed Jan 7, 2015 5:08pm EST
an 7 (Reuters) - Taylor Swift continued to shake off the competition into the new year as she topped the weekly U.S. Billboard 200 chart on Wednesday for the eighth time.
Swift's "1989" sold 172,000 album copies and 718,000 individual song downloads, bringing her total tally to 244,000 units sold for the week ending Jan. 4, according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan.
It is the album's eighth non-consecutive week at the top of the chart.
In the recently revamped Billboard 200 chart guidelines, 10 song sales equal one album unit, and 1,500 album streams equal one album unit.
Swift notably refused to make "1989" available to stream for free on online platforms such as Spotify, but that didn't stop the record from becoming 2014's biggest seller, with 3.7 million albums sold.
Streaming music figures did continue to grow significantly in 2014 according to Nielsen's year-end music report, with 164 billion songs streamed online in the United States, a 54 percent rise from 2013.
No new entries entered the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart this week as artists usually do not release music in the final week of the year.

Madonna using T Swift to get her name in the papers.
She will probably start sucking up to TS for a duet in the future.
Taylor Swift says she's 'dead' after receiving a compliment from Madonna - The 25-year-old singer could barely contain her excitement after she heard the famed Material Girl could not get Swift's ‘catchy pop songs’ out of her head.
BY RACHEL MARESCA NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Wednesday, January 28, 2015, 1:33 PM
A compliment from Madonna has left Taylor Swift floored.
The 25-year-old singer took to her Tumblr account Tuesday to respond to some flattering words uttered by the Queen of Pop herself.
"It's good to have princesses (of pop)," Madonna said in an interview with Australia's "Today" show.
"It means there's lots of pretty dresses around. I like Taylor Swift. I think she writes some really catchy pop songs, I can't get them out of my head," the 56-year-old pop icon added of the "Out of the Woods" singer.
When Swift caught wind of the Material Girl's comments she could barely contain her excitement.
"Thanks now I'm dead," she wrote to her fans under the quote with the hashtags "#how am i supposed to deal with this" and "#BE COOL TAYLOR STOP BEING EMBARRASSING."
Madonna's encouraging remarks likely put a positive spin on Swift's otherwise erratic day.
The songstress' Twitter and Instagram was hacked earlier Tuesday and the cyberthieves even threatened to release nude photos of her.
"Cause the hackers gonna hack, hack, hack, hack, hack," Swift responded with a tweet, referencing her hit song "Shake It Off."

Madonna took a more seated approach to her performance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards after her big fall during the Brit Awards.
The "Like a Virgin" singer sat on a stool during most of her act alongside Taylor Swift, who strummed the guitar while Madonna sang.
Although the artist is known for her outragous and elaborate shows, she only stood at the end of her acapella version of "Ghosttown" and walked a few feet forward.
...Swift didn't sing at all during the performance Sunday night but seemed excited to be on stage with Madonna, even as a backup musician.
The two artists hugged at the end of the performance and walked off the stage with their arms wrapped around each other's backs. Madonna & Taylor Swift Surprise iHeartRadio Awards With Performance

'My fan girl life!' Open-mouthed Taylor Swift can't conceal her excitement as Madonna presents her with iHeartRadio Award - March 30, 2015
They performed together at the iHeartRadio Awards in California on Sunday night - and Taylor Swift was completely overwhelmed at having to hang out with Madonna.
The 25-year-old was pictured open-mouthed as she posed for a snap with the megastar after she presented her with an award for Song Of The Year.
She posted a snap of the moment to her Instagram account, writing: 'I might be okay but I'm NOT FINE AT ALL. #MyFangirlLife #MadonnaAndTaylor.'
Alongside another picture of Taylor posing with an award, she wrote: 'Living proof that you can be the @iHeartRadio Music Awards Artist of the Year and also a super embarrassing person!' But on Sunday, the 56-year-old Material Girl put on a more toned down performance at the iHeartRadio Awards in Los Angeles, even getting star support from Taylor Swift who served as her guitarist.
The mother-of-four made sure she didn't repeat her tumble at the Brit Awards as she sang her song while sitting on a stool and wearing matching stockings with the 25-year-old songbird.

Is music superstar Taylor Swift the Madonna of generation now? by LUKE DENNEHY - July 20, 2015
Herald Sun
THE word “superstar” is thrown around unnecessarily these days all the time, but when it comes to Taylor Swift, it's the right label.
Swift, 25, has had a massive fanbase for years after bursting onto the scene as a teenager in the country music world.
But it wasn’t until the release of her album 1989 in October last year that in my mind she has become the biggest, and most influential music “superstar” in the world.
Everyone it seems loves her, from young girls, the gay community and oldies, as well as more serious musicians like Melbourne’s Vance Joy who is supporting her world tour.
Back in 1989 it was Madonna who was pushing envelopes when it came to music - big anthemic pop songs such as Like A Prayer and Express Yourself.
While a different sound, the album 1989 has similar anthemic pop songs, from Shake It Off to Style to one of the album tracks Out Of The Woods.
Is Swift the Madonna of our generation?
Yes, compared to Madonna she is squeaky clean, but that doesn’t mean her image isn’t as cultivated as the Material Girl.
From on stage to when she is walking with girlfriends in New York City, Swift always looks the part, she is always on.
Much like Madonna she is becoming a style icon for young girls around the world.
A decade or so ago there was so much debate about the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera and their over sexualised image.
It’s so refreshing that Swift isn't like this in the slightest, and yet she sells records by the truckload.
Perhaps the biggest evidence in Melbourne about Swift’s “superstar” status is the fact she is about to sell out a third AAMI Stadium gig in December.
Could anyone in the current climate do that right now?
I doubt it.

Taylor Swift closing in on Madonna’s ticket sale record - By Claire Atkinson
September 10, 2015 | 10:44pm
Talk about blond ambition. Taylor Swift’s “1989” concert tour is on track to rival Madonna’s 2012 “MDNA” tour as one of the biggest North American ticket sellers by a female artist, recently released statistics show.
T-Swizz, who was named to Fortune’s Most Powerful Women list on Thursday, has already banked more than $128 million from her tour, according to Billboard — and she still has 24 more US dates to play through the end of October.
Back in 2012, Madonna’s MDNA tour took in $133.7 million in North America, according to Pollstar’s data, making her tour the No. 1 seller of tickets in a single year.
Swift’s “1989” album has sold more than 8.6 million copies worldwide.

Madonna’s tour looks an awful lot like Taylor Swift’s… - by H. Phull
Oct 29, 2015
Much like Taylor Swift (right), Madonna's been trotting out the guest stars on her recent concert tour. Photo: AP; Getty Images
We all know that almost every female pop singer of the past 30 years turns to Madonna for inspiration and guidance. But on her current “Rebel Heart” tour, it seems as though Madge is taking notes from the names she’s spawned.
Even though the tour is barely two months old, Madonna has already clocked up a solid honor roll of special guests that mirrors Taylor Swift and her giant “1989” jaunt, which kicked off in May. Although Swift invites someone from the pop world to make a cameo virtually every night, Madonna is smartly doing what she can to keep up and ensure the “Rebel Heart” tour remains a regular trending topic.
This week, it was Tay’s nemesis Katy Perry who joined her onstage at the Forum in Los Angeles. During the performance of “Unapologetic b***h,” Perry was given a playful spank and invited to swig a stiff drink out of a banana-shaped flask — which she did with plenty of style.
But Perry isn’t all that special — this surreal sight happens frequently in Madge’s world. All of her guests are given a solid spank, a ripe banana and awarded the title of “Unapologetic b***h of the Evening” in return for their guest spots. At her Madison Square Garden show in September, Madonna brought out opening act Amy Schumer, who was almost a little too enthusiastic, as she motioned to put the banana into her behind.
Producer Diplo and Nelly Furtado also got a piece of the onstage action in recent weeks — but the weirdest (and most oddly memorable) example happened in Brooklyn, where Anderson Cooper flipped the crowd his middle finger and did some Grade-A dad-dancing at the Barclays Center.
He must be a riot at the CNN holiday party.
Although the “1989” tour continues until the end of the year, it’s not impossible to imagine Swift herself being a recipient of the “Unapolgetic b***h of the Evening” award when Madonna returns for the next US leg of the “Rebel Heart” tour in early 2016.
But given that Madge seems to have copied her idea of regular special guests, Swift probably deserves more than just a banana.
