![]() Welcome to Apocalypticum The Apocalypticum Codex In the age before the Great End and the fall of the Valoringian Empire, it is said that the lands of Altgard were abundant with heroic figures of history. In this tome lie the last known records of the ages before all was lost to a forgotten apocalypse." ~Excerpt from the Apocalyticum Codex Introduction The Apocalypticum Codex (as well as being the title of the site) is a tome that is a collection of heroic legends and sagas of heroes, daemons, princes, regular folk and mysteries of the realm known as Altgard from before the Great End. As RPers in Apocalypticum, your PCs are the heroes from these tales of old. You RP their adventures and tragedies during the End Times of the Valoringian Empire in the lost age that came before the time the Codex was written. In other words the RP is set in the time of the Great End, but the narrative comes as excerpts from the Apocalypticum Codex. So what will be your addition to the Codex? What adventures, trails, failures and successes will be chapters of your tale? The Realms of Illuvium Altgard is but only one realm within the great expanse of the universe of Illuvium. There are but 22 realm rings that inhabit the material creations of Illuvium. Each realm ring holds its own unique inhabitants and creatures. They are connected to one another by Ethereal Gates, hidden doorways to other ring realms. Depending on the ring realm some gates are more profoundly visible than others. Many have ventured to discover them and upon cataclysmic events they become visible to the beings of the ring realms. Each ring realm is kept alive and bright by something known as a Creation Light this mystical relic is the left over product of the great chemistry and chaos of the creation of the ring realm. Each of the 22 ring realms have such a relic hidden away within them. It is an object to be protected and well hidden, for if destroyed the ring would fall into darkness and become a wasteland. But who created these ring realms? It is not known for sure. One story from an archaic ancient cult, the Soothsayrs of Kadath, tell of an ancient god whom lived long before there was anything in the universe. Broken by perpetual nothingness he wept brilliant tears and each tear he wept was a offspring of his very soul. Eventually each tear became a Deathless, immortal gods of creation. Some of these Deathless went on to become the dreaded Damned Pantheon or the benevolent goddesses of life the Sacred Sisters. By their hands all of the 22 ring realms were created and life brought into the void- for better or for worse. Altgard Primer Altgard and the Sacred Sisters It is said that the realm known by its inhabitants as Altgard was created by the Sacred Sisters many aeons ago. The four Deathless sisters- Valorrim, Goddess of Life, Light and Justice; Aertharrim, Goddess of Creatures, Agriculture and Fertility; Bellarim, Goddess of War, Destruction and Rebirth and Entrophirrim, Goddess of Knowledge, Time and Shadows- are the Sacred Sisters that descended from each of their respective home ring realms and created our realm, that of Altgard. After they had created Altgard they created a second ring realm- Sanctum the land were the honourable dead and undying venture to when Entrophirrim calls their time up. The door to Sanctum is found within the infinitely confusing Sunken Isles far past the main the continent of Altgard. The High Continent of Altgard The greatest land mass and by far the most populated is the High Continent. On the High Continent, there are # regions. To farthest north the Everfrost Rim. A land perpetually drenched in snow and glaciers. It is home to the Norsevolk and the Vaeringar clans. However, some of the clans from both peoples have combined to create the Ulgric League. To the farthest south are the Farflung Dunes. Long dune seas stretch far south to the Burning Shoals, there you will find the Grand Khaffaq of Zheng al-Dahaburj. The Khaffaq as it also known, is a great empire that who's capital is said to have a tower of gold at its center. The Khaffaq are known as master archers and merchants, with great machines of war to back them as well. Besides the Khaffaq are the many Sultanates of the Dunes. Between them, is the Valorrim Reach and within it is the mighty Valoringian Empire the once dominant military force in the region. Those of the Valoringian Empire call themselves the Sons of Valorrim, as they believe they are descendants of her personal creation. Their empire stretches far, but since the Dark Rapture destroyed their capital the Empire is without a royal family is now run by the rivalries of the Holy Church and the nobility congress or the Noblesse Ancienne. Adjacent to the Valoringian Empire are the lands known as the Iron Downs. Found within them are the many clusters of small kingdoms which make up the Low Countries. The Low Countries possess a covenant in which they protect each other, ever since the destructive chaos of the Stahl Feden Wars. They are banded together in what they call The Holy Alliance or in their tongue Heilige Allianz. The greatest of the kingdoms in the Alliance are Eisienburg, Teutonia and Gotheim. Some of the Alliance kingdoms are also vassals of much more powerful nobles of the Valoringian Empire. Key Events The Hundred Years of Doom The history of the final decades of the Valoringian Empire and the Great End, is a period which the Codex refers to as Hundred Years of Doom. This great war was fought between the forces of Men and the Sacred Sisters, and the those twisted by the Damn Pantheon and their hundreds of servants. This great war began with what is referred to as the Dark Rapture. The Dark Rapture, is an event that is shrouded in mystery. It began with the destruction of the capital of the Empire, Archeveleon. Somehow a corrupted Ethereal Gate emerged from beneath the capital and consumed it in a sudden cataclysmic devouring. In this moment, the majority of the Valoringian line was wiped out along with the royal palace. From the dark gate and evil black tower was erected and from it pour out monsters of unimaginable description. This event is called the Sundering by Imperial historians. With the royal family slaughtered and most of the administrative centre of the Empire crippled, the end seemed sudden for the Valoringians. But, the Holy Church rallied its forces and due to the efforts of now deified Saint Heraut (Holy Heralds) like Saint Elisia and Saint Maximilian the plague of the tower was repelled and the tower destroyed. But this was just the beginning. The effort that took destroying the dark tower at Archeveleon was too great and most of the Empire's greatest warriors were laid to waste. But there would be no rest for the Empire or all of Altgard. 3 years after, two more dark towers arose, one in the ancient Aertharrim Stone Henge in the lands of the Norsevolk and another in the Khaffaq. The Ulgric League and the Great Khaffaq moved to halt the monster's advance but the war became even more desperate. Not only monsters but men, powerful men began to be consumed by its corruption. The race of men was betraying itself. To compound the issue even further, the once hidden Vampyrium of Kane using the dark energy released by the dark towers re-emerged from their slumber and flooded the lands of Everfrost with their Pale Walker legions.
