Girardi will look to stabilize Ottawa's D-core

After starting the season 1-5, Ottawa felt it needed a change. The team brought in Daniel Girardi, John Moore and futures from the Rangers in return for Jared Cowen, a move that now has the team in the midst of a 7-1 streak. When asked about the deal, GM Villy had this to say:

"First of all, I want to thank young Jared Cowen for everything he had brought to the organization during his time here. He was a well respected by his teammates and coaches, a fine citizen in the community and a heck of a player on the ice. We wish him all the best in future endeavors."

"With the start we had, I just felt like a shakeup was needed. When we heard a player of Girardi's level was available, we knew we had to jump on this chance. The kid is exactaly the type of defenseman we wanted playing on our top pairing with Erik Karlsson. Furthermore, it allowed a verteran like Chris Phillips the chance to move down a pairing and help mentor a youngster in Patrick Weircioch, something that has helped quite a bit"

The culture certainly started changing, as the team rattled off 6 straight wins to get the team back above the .500 mark. Head Coach Paul MacLean also had good things to say about another player acquired in the deal as well:

"This John Moore kid is fantastic, he's such a smooth skater. His offensive game has really helped out our 2nd PP unit, and by playing 5on5 paired with Marc Methot, he's learning a lot defensively as well. The kid works hard, and I love him."

With these new defensive pairings to go along with an already good offense. It's certainly exciting times in Sens Land.
