This trade become such a bigger deal than it should of been. This is what would of normally happened.

a) TC rejects it, asks Calgary to add a little bit more.
b) Calgary add's a 2nd round pick or something
c) Trade is processed

I normally don't do this, but I want to explain why I said no to this deal.

First

Kuznetsov is an amazing prospect, the file is based on players in the NHL, Kuznestov is a very highly touted prospect, he's expected to be very good in the NHL, so in our file he's made to be expected to be very good as well. Kuznetsov is an 8.0C according to hockeys future, and was ranked as the 10th best prospect in the NHL by hockeysfuture. The prospect you're comparing him to? Poirer didn't even register, you'd have to go through over 100 prospects before you see him ranked anywhere, if that.

Kuznetsov >>>> Poirer

Secondly,

You have no idea how valuable Carlson is. There is only 19 D-men in the ENTIRE file, who have above 73 OFF and above 75 DEF, Carlson is a top 20 two-way defencemen in this league. NO, that is NOT an opinion that is a FACT as in there is only 19 better two-way defensemen, therefor he is the 20th best. Of those 20 d-men only 5 make less than 4 million. And EVERY SINGLE one of those 5 is on ELC and will be making 5 mill + next year. You traded the top 20 two-way D-man in this league with THE best contract. Again not opinions. Gunnarsson is a fine D-man, but his name can't be said in the same breath as Carlson.

Carlson >> Gunnar

Lastly,

Brodie is not that special, and does not fill the gap. There is currently 15 UFA D-men with 75 Def or higher. That means there is 15 players you can get for FREE who are as capable defensively as Brodie or even better. Maybe he'll get up to 76 or 77 def one day, well there's Gill at 78 DEF, Markov, O'Byrne AND Exelby at 77 DEF.

- - - -

So in the end, you did lose this deal.

You could of gotten more, and if you were patient and waited for the TC to make their decision, and send you the modifications you had to make, you would of had this same deal processed with just more picks or pieces of value coming back your way. Instead of threatening to leave if the TC turns down your bad trade.
