"Slide Fire, based in Moran, Texas, plans to sell a semiautomatic rifle that mimics the rapid fire of a machine gun and is also fed bullets from a belt, which provides a huge capacity for ammunition -- potentially thousands of rounds.

Brandon Renner, sales and marketing manager for Slide Fire, says the belt-fed rifle, called the SFS BFR, will be available this fall and sell for $6,000.

"It sprays like a fire hose," said Renner. "We recommend no more than 30 rounds on the belt, but one person could make it as big as they want."

Can that be legal?

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says yes, since it's still technically a semiautomatic."

It's legal under Federal law but I don't know about some state laws. It's damn sure legal in Texas. Belt fed guns have always been legal. The slide fire mimics automatic fire. It's a device that simulates bump firing(videos online). I think it's kinda sketchy for anything other than messing around. Also firing a belt of 200 rnds through a barrel not heavy enough would ruin it. Anyway if your not a felon and you've got the money you can get a class 3 weapons license and buy a real automatic rifle. You can also fill out a form 1 and pay $200 tax stamp and get a suppressor for it. It's all a matter of taxes and long forms sent to the dea. Fully automatic is for suppression fire in a fire fight. Controlled accurate fire is far more effective for self defense. And zombies!
