Depends on the situation.
Also, I do not think you can have "too much" ammo.

Not if you are shooting a 3 gun match. Besides it only becomes too much ammo if it encumbers your effectiveness with it. Can't say that I have any guns that I wish wouldn't hold so dang much ammo.
