I have owned pellet rifles all my life. Just curious to know what models you have owned and what you liked the best. My first was a benjamin pumpup .177 over 30 years ago. My friend at the time owned a sheridan blue streak. While my benjamin was accurate and deadly on pigeons, his blue streak was a awesome pump up pellet rifle with LOTS of punch. I have owned crossman but never cared for it as well as a crossman pistol. Gave it to a friend. Was not impressed with either. I bought another benjamin in .22 caliber years later and while it had more power than the .177, it was not nearly as accurate as my benjamin .177 was. My latest air rifle purchase was a gamo, cock one time. Very nice air rifle but I have not shot it much. I will post pictures of my air rifles at a later time. Just curious what you have owned and liked the best in air rifles.

When I was a kid, my first pellet gun was a Crosman Pumpmaster 760 .177 pellet/BB rifle. I had a lot of fun plinking with it and bought one about 5 years ago for the hell of it. The one I recently bought was very cheaply made compared to the one I had as a kid, but it shot pretty good for what it was.

My pride and joy however is my Stoeger X-20 .177 break barrel 1200 FPS Air Rifle. This air rifle will drop full grown ground hogs with one shot and drop them instantly dead. I was totally astonished at how accurate and deadly this rifle is. I am keeping it as my SHTF weapon because if you want to eat, you want to eat light and not be heard while hunting.

Here is a good article about the sheridan blue streak my friend had. His must have been a early model c rifle. For a pump action pellet rifle, it was a monster!

Do you have a scope on it? I bought my gamo at bass pro, where are stoegers available at? Yours have a wood stock or synthetic?

Here is a crossman I got hid from my son. It was one of his friends and was borrowed. Living where we live, these crazy police are running scared and I was afraid my son would be seen by the police and he might acidently point it towards some crazy cop and get himself shot. So I caught him when he was not around and hid it from him. He has forgot all about it.

I paid $230 for mine that came as a combo with a scope. You can find a Stoeger X-20 for about $100 without the scope on Amazon.com

Have you experimented with differant brand pellets with the stoeger? I have found some pellets are more accurate than others.

The supersonic and allow pellets crack like a .22 but are not accurate. The Crosman hollowpoint and destroyers seems to be the best for this rifle.

How long does it take to break the barrel and insert a pellet? Is it a cumbersome maneuver or do you get used to inserting the pellet after a while?

Impressive. I have a crosman .22 air rifle and also a pistol but they use the CO2 cartridges. For flat headed pellets, I'm astounded at their accuracy. I'll have to look into the Stoeger. CO2 is no good without cartridges.

I was reading an article in the Dec/2013 issue of Fur-Fish-Game magazine and there was an good article about air rifles. To my untrained eye, the author seems to like German made rifles. Here is a list of guns/manufacturers in the article.

RWS 350 Feuerkraft Pro .22
http://www.amazon.com/Diana-RWS-Feuerkraft-Compact-rifle/dp/B001BS9B3M

RWS Model 34
http://www.amazon.com/RWS-Pellet-Model-Combo-Rifle/dp/B000UPFH4E

AirArms

BSA

Weihrauch

The author did not extoll the virtues of more common named air rifles such as:

Crosman
Umares
Hatsan

He said they are good, though.

Also he liked the Diablo pellet, regardless of caliber.

I will be teaching my 5 year old granddaughter how to shoot using an old BB gun. It is a Quick Silver Ltd. Made by Daisy.
Is super accurate for as old as it is. It even has an old Tasco 4x20 scope on it.

I've been researching different air rifles and am now scratching my head because I don't know what I'm "looking at". So much information to wade through, but, for me the best way of reviewing a product is to hold it in your hand and use it.

I cannot do that with a air rifle so I must rely upon my internet buddies who have actually used these guns and can give me their input.

Here is what I am looking for in a air rifle. Quite, light weight, and reliable.

Here is the list of air guns I have researched.

Gamo Big Cat
Stoeger x20
Ruger Blackhawk Elite

The prices range from $100-$150 so that is not an issue. I think the Stoeger is the quietest, the Gamo has problems with the scope, and I have not read anything bad about the Ruger.

The Gamo has problems with the o-ring in the barrel. It has a tendancy to become ripped if there is any burrs in the barrel mating surface. It needs to be returned to Gamo in order to be fixed. Plus the trigger has a long 2 stage pull. I don't know if that is a factor. I think I can replace it with a Charlie the Tuna trigger.

The Stoeger has had very few bad reviews and those bad reviews seem to be from idiot purchasers who didn't understand the way the Stoeger functions.

I am not inclined toward any model just yet, I'm looking for solid feedback from folks who have real life experiences with these rifles. If you are a fanboy of one product, that is fine. Just give me your honest appraisal of the rifles.

What do you guys think? Which one should I invest in?
Thanks
