EUROPEAN UNION

The European Union was founded way back in May 2003, and so can claim to be one of the oldest and most established regions around today. It's usually between the 45th and 65th largest region in the world, and aims to strike a balance between common interest and respect for national sovereignty. It sponsors cultural events across the region, seeks to provide its members with a voice on the world stage, and has a democratic and constitutional political system. The executive (Commission) runs the region's affairs and proposes some legislation; while the legislature (Council) is where one representative from each nation discusses regional affairs, proposes some legislation, and votes on all bills; and the Court of Justice prosecutes region-wide offenders and interprets the Constitution to ensure it is being adhered to.

National parties organise themselves into 'Europarties' to form voting blocs in the Council and for Commission elections. These are currently the far-Left PEL (Party of the European Left), the social-democratic PES (Party of European Socialists), the libertarian EFP (European Freedom Party), the centre-right EPP (European People's Party), and the conservative ECR (European Conservatives & Reformists). The EFP currently has a majority in the Council.

The current leaders of the EU are as follows:

European Commission

Premier Commissioner: Maleeka Liszckoszi, Os Corelia (EFP)
Foreign Commissioner: Cajetan Cherton, Angleter (EPP)
Internal Commissioner: Nadia Drissi, Marrakechia (EFP)
Economics Commissioner: Michael Reed, UK (EFP)
Defence Commissioner: Biel Barcelo, Catalunya i Balears (PES)

European Court of Justice

Chief Justice: Ine Kelander, Duxburian Union
Justice: Anamaria Chavez, Occoron
Justice: Richard Sprengel, Brecon
Justice: Gerhardt Garber, Rhine Ruhr
Justice: Pillitrinin Nantheyewyan, Tamil Islands

Speaker of the European Council

Acwellan Devoy, Duxburian Union (EPP) ~ no political power, merely ensures the smooth running of proceedings. Participates in debates and votes.
