Official Trade Week / Draft Topic

Trade period is coming up and all year long both have been touted as possible trade bait options as well as this being their do or die year.

So what do we do with them?

Personally I would like to keep Masten he showed enough in the last in the last few games of the season to indicate that perhaps one day he can become an integral part of our midfield and I think next year if he has another pre-season and manages not to get injured that he may finally break through.

Brad Ebert on the other hand do we keep him as a depth player? Or try trade him off. Then do we trade him for draft picks or do we trade him for a ready made player with draft picks in hopes to attract a player that may be necessary to fill the void or link missing for us to take the next step up in 2012.

According to all the papers Ebert is really considering his options. He is one of the players we can afford to lose. I always thought we weren't a premiership team with Ebert playing midfield and this year with Jack Darling taking one of the medium / tall forward positions and Andrew Gaff's addition on the wing he is only going to be a 25-30th ranked player on our list, in other words depth player.

In a trade we could get a draft pick or player that will potentially be better than that, as his value is not going to increase with us anytime soon, now is the time to cash in.

I wouldn't like to see us dispose of Masten however. His final couple of home and away season games were fantastic, his finals campaign wasn't outstanding but it wasn't bad. Could be an important cog if we are to challenge next year.

Woah, ease up here guys! Brad is only 21 and has only played 76 games!! We are not going to give away this bloke for nothing, we've invested a lot of matches in him, I really think the club wants to keep him.

I doubt he is going anywhere but what would he warrant given he couldn't even get a game in finals!!!

I'm going to get bagged out for this but I don't want either to part ways. We've invested a lot into Ebert (as previously said) and he has obvious talent, a big body and good leadership skills. Ebert's games against Melbourne, Richmond and Geelong, even North Melbourne back in Round 1 where modest. He has been moved out of the midfield and played in a new role, so you can't expect him to adapt immediately.

Masten on the other hand played a game against Brisbane which is the sort of the game he is built to play. He has a massive engine, good skills and decent decision making, if he can get a decent pre-season under his belt and some confidence he could be apart of next years midfield.

That being said I wouldn't want either disappearing without being given worthy compensation.

For Ebert maybe a three-way deal with Adelaide and Melbourne involving a Jack Gunston and perhaps one of Tom Scully's compo picks which we could hold over until next years stronger draft.

GWS seems like they won't be doing anymore un-contracted player recruiting and I can't see the club offering Masten away in trade week. Whether he asks to be traded is another story - if he does wish to be traded and head to GWS to be with his mate Rhys we may be able to post a bid for O'Meara.

"trash" why are they trash, please elaborate or do not participate in the discussions....

We need to work some magical deal with Gold Coast that could see us get Brandon Matera, happy for anyone to fill in the blanks.

Josh Kennedy's supremacy
If Brad does request a trade to Port are we interested in Danyle Pearce at all? Could be this 20+ goal kicking midfielder the article on the website was talking of?

Personally I think it would be a massive waste to let a guy that we have pumped so many games into disappear. When those games could easily have been used on Koby Stevens/Brad Sheppard/Tom Swift. I guess it adds to his trade value at least.

Don't mind if we trade of Masten and look to build our list through this. We have a lot of inside midfielders in the midst who have shown more promise.
