The basic rumor going around is that Stevens has been approached by Carlton (not gws or he would already have signed) and if they follow up their initial interest with a concrete bit there is a chance a deal may be worked out, otherwise he signs on with us again.

There is no real secret that a lot of players this season have complained about the lack of midfield time. Stevens, Ebert, Swift, Masten all pretty much stated "I need more midfield time or I'm going to look elsewhere". I would expect 2 of the 4 I named to leave and the other 2 staying on knowing that with two of their closest rivals gone, they will get more game time.
I think a bit of jealousy is involved with Gaff. He has just come in and gone straight past all of them.

All those four play a lot more inside than Gaff, that is the problem. We have to many ball winners and not enough to provide run and carry.

With Ebert going it opens up a spot for Stevens, hopefully he sticks around.

Agreed. Koby would be the natural replacement for Ebert

Gaff is different from Swift, Ebert and Stevens but I see the logic however I think the lack of games was due to our good run with injuries

We're basing Steven's all around the facebook thing.

Stevens is going to want game time, obviously. Who is going to want Stevens more than us? Honestly is anyone going to give a top 30 draft pick for a player who has got 7 games under his belt, especially in what is a "weak draft". There is no real reason for Stevens to leave now that Ebert is gone.

Extra room in the salary cap and with Ebert's departure we can show Stevens there is now more opportunity for him in the future. No real reason for Stevens to leave now that Ebert has departed.

Out of Masten, Swift and Stevens I would expect Swift is the most likely give how loud Woosha made it that Swift wanted more game time throughout 2011.

Expanding on this. We have a load of inside midfielders and they are also not defensive inside midfielders which means they aren't and can't play Scooters current role.

We have 2 offensive midfield spots for Kerr, Prridis, Shuey and hopefully next year Scooter. Ebert judgment is that he has not much of a chance to get into that midfield anytime soon, others may well agree.

Kerr is 29 and is injury prone, Priddis is (27?) by the time we next play and is limited to what he can do. I hope that down track we don't regret playing both of them two much through the midfield and bugging several younger players who will be around longer and have potential to reach greater heights.

Anyone heard of the Geoff Garlett rumour? Perhaps he may be coming this way. I'd take him over Shannon Byrnes lol
