Best team, round one, no injuries:

FB: Glass • Mackenzie • Schofield or Smith
HB: Hurn • Brown • Butler
C: Rosa • Shuey • Masten
HF: Embley • Kennedy • Nicoski
FF: LeCras • Lynch • Darling
R: Naitanui • Priddis • Kerr
I: S. Selwood • Cox • Waters
S: Gaff
E: McGinnity • A. Selwood • Swift • Hams

Defence
We have three talls that should be automatic selections, but in reality this would depend on the opponents. I'd love to see Brown and Mackenzie in our two key position roles. Emac has always been more of a traditional fullback, while Brown has a bit more run to him. I think Glass might benefit from more of a floating role á la Matthew Scarlett. Picturing in my mind Emac and Buddy wrestling, Glass drifts across effortlessly and punches 30m

Schoey should concentrate on his rebounding skills eg. pace and ball delivery. Best-case scenario he develops into another Guy McKenna. He has had some good form in the past when played on small forwards, but he should not be played as another tall unless there are a tonne of injuries. I still feel he is best 22, and his form this season should be rewarded with a start next season. Hurn and Butler would serve as first-choice rebounders, although Smith is extremely unlucky to miss out, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him swapped in for Schofield depending on opponents.

Waters to play as a utility, drift forward, drop back, throw his body at some draftees, etc. etc.

Midfield
NicNat, Priddis and Kerr as starting ruck combination, Scott Selwood as tagger are locks. I'm hoping (again) on the basis of his form late this season Masto will have a breakout year. Rosa on the other wing, Shuey in the middle, although I wouldn't be surprised to see Shuey spend a bit of in the WAFL. "Second" year blues and all that. Just a feeling, hope I'm wrong. Gaff starting as sub, although would be given some game time with injuries. Cox on the bench, not sure what type of impact he will have this year, particularly with Naitanui's development its hard to see him having a continued impact. Might be consigned to a back-up role.

On the outer are our other taggers: McGinnity and Adam Selwood. Not sure about Tom Swift. I think given an extended run, god forbid due to injury, he could establish himself, but might end up on the trade table with another inconsistent year.

Brad Sheppard. Play well. You are a number seven draft pick.

Forward
Smalls I really hope LeCras is kept where he is best this year: forward pocket. Him and Nico can rotate as our forward-pocket/half-forward flanker. Hams, Neates, Weedon, I can only really see getting a game due to injury.

Not sure what to make of Andrew Strijk. Was one of our best in late 2010, but may have been a case of a mediocre player looking good in a mediocre team. Could see him playing a sub role occasionally.

Talls Kennedy and Darling are locks imho. I wouldn't mind seeing Lynch playing as a mark half-forward flanker, allowing him to drop back into defence if needed. Any of these three getting injured wouldn't be too bad as it would allow us to experiment with different forward structures. Cox and Naita drop in, NicNat takes mark and goal of the year, etc. etc.

Lycett should play mainly in the WAFL, start to dominant the competition in preparation for when Cox retires.

Summary
Holy f*ck an actual selection dilemma!
