Creating a Regional Economy

One of my missions in office is to establish a regional economy, as we are capitalists, after all. To do this, the groundwork must be laid for a successful free-market system.

First, a business district must be established. This will give people a clear, defined place to set up a storefront and sell services. These stores would be limited, as no material goods can be created. However, other goods and services, such as newspapers, advice, flags, art and original stories could be sold here and delivered through any number of means. A business district on the forums would also encourage businesses by clearing up ambiguity about their location. This area of the forum could become a landmark and it would make storefronts easier to find.

The second step in the process is establishing some form of regional currency. While bartering and favors may work on a small scale, successful economies require money. I know from experience that creating a regional currency is possible; however, I am not certain as to how one is created. For this, I must consult the citizenry of Capitalists. If you have experience in this field, please tell me. Thank you.

The details of the economy, such as acquiring money through a salary or posts, or government duties, like taxes, will be worked out later. For our stage now, laying the foundation is enough.

I really like the business district idea. We could establish a currency based on system similar to bitcoin. We could have a fixed amount set by the regional council as well.

I like the idea for a business district.

The first step to creating a regional economy, in my opinion, is finding a program/code for it. In this instance, I would suggest that you, as admin and President, go to zetaboards and figure out how it could work. I know that zetaboards has a site where users can ask questions and such. Google is also a friend.

Next, we need to avoid hyperinflation. That means that it is impossible to do an extensive salary-per-post system. It would almost exclusively have to be a monthly salary for government officials accompanied by the free exchange of individuals and businesses.

But really, I think we just need to go to zetaboards and present these things and hopefully they can help us out. Right now it is not exactly a pressing need, but it's worth a shot.

It is worth a shot. Once we figured how it works on here. Then we can proceed, but let's go ahead with the business district. Now are selling services and "goods" that are role play orientated like fictional goods, or services that have some bearing in this forum.

I would hold up on the business district until we have businesses or until we have the authority to create such a thing.

If/when a business arises, we, the government, would give ourselves (through legislation) authority to regulate/etc that business if necessary. We can set up the business district when that time comes.

Businesses would be like graphic design, political ads, flags, news, etc and would sell that to the populace.

Zeke, I remember in my previous region there was a requirement for coding in order to establish a currency. I agree, hyperinflation is a serious problem. Just look at the Weimar Republic for an example of that.

At first, businesses would be unregulated, just to encourage early economic growth. Then, as businesses began to prosper and established competition arose, more economic laws would have to be enacted.

Agreed. We would basically just have to adjust whenever necessary.
