Aru stopped and looked for anyone else before responding to the woman. "My outfit?" she retorted, looking down at the same clothing, in the exact same fashion she had when the guard had dismissed the sorry excuse for clothing.

"I made them by hand, in Lariona." Aru said with a proud nod, the vast amount of colors surrounding the old woman making it hard to concentrate. There were different fabrics, shirts, scarves, even boots laid out for display. The jewelry also caught Aru's attention, her eyes glossing up rows of bracelets and earrings.

"Did you make these yourself?" Aru asked, stepping closer to the display.

"Lariona..." repeated the elderly woman with a fond smile. Legend cast his glance away, realizing the woman would never be able to locate this on a map. "Why, yes, these are all my creations. I love to try new things, you see. Before I knew it, I was able to make so many different types of clothing and accessories. If I could make such a gorgeous outfit at your age, I wouldn't have to sell my wares on the street!" The old woman's tired laughter was no less sincere for its frailty.

"Aru, I don't know if we can afford this stuff," Legend cautioned her. He frowned as he recalled the loss of his thirty thousand dollars in Lariona. Of course, that money wouldn't do them any good here anyway. If he presented a citizen of Knives with the currency of Faust, they might find themselves in a dark dungeon within the day.

"Tsk, tsk..." the old woman scolded. "Men, always concerned with money."

"He is right though. We do not have any money." Aru commented, now leaning over the selection of goods. She picked up a few bracelets, watching them clatter together and chime. The materials were all familiar to her, which made her smile. She set the bracelets down and looked over a few other things as well, picking each one up and looking over thoroughly before setting it back down, but was quick to back off and stop looking due to their money situation.

"They are nice though." Aru said, looking down at a few items with interest.

"Oh my..." said the elderly stall owner with a hand over her mouth. "You've come such a long way, but you don't have money? Goodness, no wonder your clothes are in such poor condition." The woman's eyes were on Legend, whose pants had taken quite a beating after several days in the jungle and mines of Largo. The fact that he lacked anything to cover his torso transformed from a means to show off his physique to a reminder of his poverty. Legend wished he hadn't said anything.

"Well, we're just passing through anyway... Can you tell me which way it is to..." Legend trailed off, wincing. If he mentioned Faust, that would also bring them undesired trouble. "Uh, where in Knives are we, exactly?" Assuming they were in fact in Knives and not some remote country with similar plant life, that should do the trick.

"Poor things... You're lost, too?" the elderly woman pried. "Vancorde's about as far south as you can get, unless you count the sheridan villages. You're on the southwest side of the empire. Where are you headed, dears?"

"A village called Fret," he told her. There was no way anyone so far from Faust had heard of his tiny village; the truth was safe in this instance. "Looks like we took a wrong turn. Thanks anyway." As Legend turned to walk away, the elderly woman reached a hand out to Aru. A single silver coin between her bony fingers extended to the amazon.

"Please take this, dear. Safe travels."

Aru took the coin and graciously nodded at the elderly woman. "Thank you." Aru said, staring at the woman eye to eye for a long moment. She flashed a smile then turned away from the woman, scurrying up to Legend's side once more.

"What is this?" Aru asked, holding out the coin in the palm of her hand. "She told me to be safe. Is it a good luck charm of some sort?"

Legend took the coin for a moment and inspected it as they walked together. The crossed blades symbolizing the Knives Empire were etched into the coin's silver surface.

"It's money," he explained, handing it back. "Probably not much, though. Keep it safe just in case." Without money, they couldn't so much as stay the night at the local inn. Legend didn't particularly look forward to the long trip ahead now that he realized just how far away they landed, but with Aru's company, at least it wouldn't be boring.

"I guess we should leave sooner rather than later. That guard will give us a hard time when he gets back."

"I agree." Aru said, taking the coin back and holding it out in front of herself. The coin laid in her palms, the silver etching glittering, not sure where to keep it. She no longer had her belt with her gold pouch and she might lose it if she placed it in her scale mail beneath her pelt.

"I am missing my skirt and belt." Aru said aloud, bringing up a topic that had long since been dropped. "So I guess I am not fully clothed." she remarked, stepping in time with Legend.

As soon as they reached the end of the line of buildings, Legend checked the suns in the sky and changed course, heading directly north. He regretted skipping breakfast that morning and all the lost items presumably hanging in a tree somewhere. For some reason, fate seemed hellbent on confiscating his possessions. On the bright side, his pickaxe had escaped that chain of misfortune time and time again.

The day wore on quickly once they returned to the woodlands. All the trees seemed identical to Legend, so even after two hours of constant walking, he hardly felt they had made any progress.

"Aru, did you remember to bring along some flint?" Legend asked several miles into their journey. His fire-starting skills hadn't improved despite his time in Lariona. Before long, the Oshuran suns would dip below the horizon. He hoped not to spend a night in the wilderness without a campfire.

Aru was still walking with the silver coin held out in front of her chest. She looked over the engravings over and over on their walk, examining the surrounding area every now and again too. The scenery barely changed, so her focus was maintained mostly on the coin in her hand.

"I don't have any." Aru shook her head when she responded. "I put the lighter in your bag before we left." she told him with a frown, clutching the coin in her right hand and storing it behind her back.

Again, Legend wished he hadn't fallen through the trees on his way back to Oshura.

Nightfall approached much sooner than Aru would likely suspect, and as the sky changed from a peaceful blue to orange and yellow, Legend settled on a small clearing in the redwood forest for their temporary camp. They didn't really have anything to set up; the blankets he brought along were also in the lost bag.

"Guess we're really roughing it tonight," he observed with a faint laugh. Legend set aside his pick and sprawled in the grass on his back. He found that although his body was weary, he didn't feel tired enough to sleep. Legend had learned to last far longer periods of time without sleep during his month-long stay in Lariona. He hoped that would change soon, as it couldn't be healthy in the long-term.

"What do you think so far?" he asked Aru. "It's nothing like Lariona, but hopefully, it's better than living alone on Largo."
