Legend pulled his slick, meat sauce-covered hand away from Aru's and shook his head. There had to be a misunderstanding. His destiny was a simple one defined by dedication to hard work in the mines, helping out around the village, and paying his respects to his elders. There wasn't room for him to fill a hero's shoes in that plan.

"He must have misheard Impa," Legend protested. Meila passed him a death glare and jabbed an accusing finger across the table.

"Deference," she reminded him. Legend's eyebrows arched outward. The name of the goddess Impa was well-known throughout Oshura, not only in Knives. Long ago, before the Dirac family of Knives took the title of Lord-Saint, the people of their empire worshiped a forest deity by that name. In the present day, it seemed the sheridans still revered Impa as a spirit guardian, but the humans had already abandoned that powerless god. They looked to Lord-Saint Dirac instead as their deity. It would puzzle him enough if the Lord-Saint claimed to have a plan for Legend's life, but for a mystical being that shouldn't exist to speak for his destiny, Legend must have eaten something tainted after all...

"I'm just saying he should consult her again..." he muttered, pretending to believe this wrinkled old man could hear the voice of a goddess. Meila's warning gaze left him only because Krovlar's raucous laughter reached their side of the table.

Oyster was confused beyond his time. He knew nothing of their gods and deities, and now this proficy thing was way over his head. All he knew was that tomorrow he was going to help save some innocent lives, and if he got free food for doing so, then he would accept it. Anything after that he would take day by day, same as he always did.

"I believe that there is something more powerful than we are in the universe. I also believe that it has nothing to do with my adventures. My vote is to let them believe what they want to, but I will not choose sides when it comes to any sort of crusade. We have a mission for tomorrow and that is all we need to worry about."

Oyster took a second to reflect, he seemed to have calmed down from his anxiety attack and was now able to speak exactly how he felt without any type of paranoia interfering.

Aru didn't have a clue when it came to the current conversation being had. The gods and goddesses of this world were all new to her, and she assumed that most people accepted them just as the sheridans did. Aru was even ignorant enough to simple assume that people of Oshura could all hear Impa, if they had some type of magic ability to let them do so.

"I hope we are able to catch up with them on foot." Aru said aloud, thinking to herself.

The party in Middlebrook continued into the deep into the night, long after the heroes for which it began departed. In truth, the only part of a banquet that meant anything to Legend was its food, and he had long since stuffed his stomach. Meila guided them back onto the winding village trails with a drunken twinkle in her eyes.

"Told ya Krovlar's parties're the best!" she insisted, grabbing Aru's rear with a hand. Legend had sipped the wine, but only a little; he couldn't compare to Meila's level of inebriation by any means. At least, his movements weren't noticeably impaired in the aftermath. For a while, they circled around the same group of buildings, and Legend wondered if they would ever reach their lodging for the night.

"I'm sho tired..." Meila complained, leaning on Oyster. She recognized a sheridan man passing them by and shouted at the top of her lungs. "Heeeeeeey!"

The man tried to shuffle away as though he hadn't heard, but Meila quickly wrapped an arm around his neck and dragged him back to their group. Legend kept his distance.

"Take... Hey, listen, take these two... To the guest house!" she said with painstaking effort, emphasizing the last phrase with her index finger. The sheridan man didn't put up a fight. When Meila released him and waved her hand in the couple's direction, he waltzed over to Legend and Aru with a sheepish grin.

"Crazy woman," he laughed. Meila was too busy laughing herself to hear his comment. She stumbled into a building bordering a sweetwater stream while beckoning Oyster to follow. As Legend accompanied their second escort, he silently hoped that this laid-back evening wouldn't cost a group of innocent men their lives.
