Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports that no one should expect “anything concrete” soon as talks between Davis and the Colts are in the early stages of talks. An agreement to keep Davis in town is “far from imminent” as Holder reports the two sides are waiting for a clearer picture of the landscape at the position to reveal itself.

Read this yesterday. Sounds like he wants to see the market develop and is in no rush to provide a hometown discount.

I dont think i ever expect a player to cut a deal just to stay with his team. Its nice when it happens, but id sure as hell want to be paid what my tier is being paid.

Get that money vontae

(though it would be freaking awesome if he signed for 20 bucks a game)

i think this means there is a disconnect between the two parties on how much Davis is worth.

I'm not surprised. He's shown great potential, but he has only himself and injuries to blame for not being more consistent and not having a substantially better position to bargain from. That said, not retaining him would be a huge mistake, so I hope we can get it done.

I think they are just letting the market define itself a bit. You know the GM's are talking shop at the Combine. Plus I think the Colts would be wise to make this particular contract an incentive-laden one if possible, and that could take a while to hammer out.

The market was not great for corners last year. I imagine that they'll let him test that and bring him back at a reasonable rate. He's good, but he's not top tier.

I want him back, but wouldn't be depressed if he left. I just hope that if he left, Grigson wouldn't re-sign Bethea in a panic. But he is young and knows the system. With that all said, I believe he'll return.
