At LT Castonza seems to be improving. Very good run blocker, ESP. on the move. Great at times pass blocking but still gets beat some. Free agent n 2015 At RT Charles is much better at pass protection than run blocker. Not always aggressive on second level blocking. His contract dead money goes down in 2015 and 2016 At LG Thomas looked good in his short time. Looks like solid player in both run and pass. But can he stay healthy? He has never been a full time starter for any length of time At RG McGlynn has no business starting. At center he really is not much better than Satele. He is slow, very heavy footed. Looks really bad when he is on the move. Has his moments every now and than. We have got to upgrade At Center Satele is one of worse rated centers in the NFL. Slow reacting , slow footed. Every now and than does decent things but his worse thing is if someone is not directly over him he is almost useless in helping other blockers. He has got to go Hugh Thornton was a rookie. Showed flashes but overall one of lowest rated offense lineman outside of Satele and McGlynn. Very aggressive mauler. Made mistakes but was a rookie and is a RG , not LG. Should show improvement in 2014 Holmes, not much playing time. But showed great movement and foot work in the few times he played. He is not real strong or have power. I feel he could be great back up center and guard. Maybe one day he a decent starting center in NFL but will need time to build over all strength , mainly in lower body Joe Reitz and Xavier Nixon are wild cards. Reitz actually had highest grades. He has not played football a long time. I think he could become a very good back up at guard and center. Same thing with Nixon. Could be good back ups Linkenbach is so inconstancy , sometimes ok sometimes terrible. Time to move on from him Offense line is one of hardest positions to play in NFL for a younger player. So I think Thornton, Holmes, and Reitz can really improve. But we need interior offense line help now. Luck is our team. We have got to keep him upright and also open up holes in our running game. |

Good breakdown. I don't mind some of those guys Linkenbach, Reitz, McGlynn as reserves as they're versatile and can fill in just about anywhere along the line, but would rather not have them starting and with injuries one or more are bound to start several games. |

I want no part of McGlynn or Linky returning. Nixon, Reitz and Holmes are good enough backups. We need to find a starting Center and to find a way in making Thornton an effective starter. |

Best way to build a new line at this point is to bring in a bunch of young guys to compete for the job - be they draft picks, free agents, rookie free agents. Guys like Nixon, who fell out of the draft (that said, I could easily see him back on the PS this year). We've seen enough of Reitz, Link and McGlynn. About the only thing to be said for them is they bring experience, but it's mostly experience at being bad. No more than one of them back would be preferrable. If McGlynn were to return, it would probably be at the minimum salary. Can't imagine teams are going to rush to sign him. Think Linkenbach is probably finally done as a Colt. Also, not sure Reitz will be back as the coaches seem hesitant to play him ahead of other reserves and he had injury issues. |

Nixon was a starting LT at Florida, and has the potential to be a solid backup at the very least. |

What was Nixon's story? Saw where at one point people thought he could go by the third round. |

Don't know the answer to that, but he was the most heralded O-Lineman in H.S. and started for the Gators at L.T. as a true Frosh. Long arms and fine athlete to boot. Comes from military parents. For whatever reason he is inconsistent, mainly in his technique. Never heard anything about work ethic or beavior issues. I like the kid a bit. If the light comes on, I think he could really blossom. |
