Got ties to Chud. Would be a definite upgrade at MLB. Might be worth a look.

Sounds like he would be better sticking with a 4-3 scheme, but adding a character guy never hurts. We definitely need an upgrade over Shepherd and Angerer, and I'm still not convinced Freeman is THAT good. Makes big plays but also is inconsistent.

Definite upgrade and would fill a need. I thought the Browns employed a 3-4. Freeman ain't THAT good, but is good enough and would be better playing alongside a thumper.

They did have a 3-4, now a 4-3. Jackson is like a Gary Brackett, only more productive it seems. This quote, describes Freeman almost. Freeman makes picks and sacks, but is not as productive and very, very rarely makes "impact tackles."

“He’s highly productive when he’s right [physically], but I also have always seen that as a bit of an aberration, as he is often making plays downfield, rather than 'impact tackles,' Williamson said. “He has experience in both schemes, but never was a great take-on linebacker and need protection, which I would think Jurrell Casey and company could do rather well. He’s an every down LB, but his name value is greater than what he truly is in my opinion.”

Freeman to a tee. We need a thumper to pair with Freeman or McNary. Spikes would be in that mold.

Would rather have Dansby or Spikes, but Jackson is better than what we currently have
He is 6'0 and 240 lbs. he has been near the NFL lead in tackles 4 out of the last 5 years
Jackson had 7 passes defense last year, which I believe is good for a LB. he is 30 so he should have at least 2 or 3 very good years left. He is durable, played every game last year
I think having Jackson and Freeman inside would be much better than what we have had the last few years

Get him Chud. When motivated/healthy, the guy is a load. Why would he want to stay in Cleveland?

According to NFL Trade Rumors, Jackson was in Indy yesterday. So we know that the Colts are definitely looking at him. I think he would be a great signing. let's get it done

My only concern is how effective he'd be in our (3-4 hybrid) defense. His talent and intangibles seem fine, otherwise.

Jackson will pick from Tenn, MIA, DEN, and Indy... reportedly.

Not taking this for any indication of a signing or anything, but I just saw this tweet from Mathis:

The Colts defense needs new members to turn up the bluheat.....maybe we should take a ride down 5200 Jackson Street........ #iTsOn

I have to think we'd have the inside advantage to sign him. The word "overrated" has come up a lot though when it comes to Jackson. That worries me, but he is said to be a strong leader and better than anyone we have (including Freeman, who is overrated by fans), so maybe not a bad addition for the right price. We need some playmakers though, some difference makers, and I don't think he will fill that role. He's steady, not great, won't improve our run defense that much, so it really all that big of an upgrade?

I think he can be a piece to the puzzle. He is a tackling machine and a high energy , high character guy. I'd love to see the Colts sign him.

To truly improve the run D though, we need a stud defensive linemen. I'm hoping Grigs makes a push for Arthur Jones. He was the best defensive lineman the Ravens had last year.

We need a DE and a decent NT, to go with Davis and at least 1 new CB and of course a new ILB

Actually FOUR years at 22M. I just hope that it's structured in similar fashion to Landry/Toler's deal. In other words, see ya' after 2 years, if so desired. Seems like a bit of an overpay for me...but the question is: Is he the right fit for this defense? This could also be a move in anticipation of Freeman's impending FA next year.

It is 4 years not 5
Not sure about yearly breakout, but the most this year should be no more than 6 million
So we have about 35 million left, minute our draft which is only about 1 million cap hit
Plus dropping Satele gets us back up to around 38 million

Damn. A little more than I was hoping for.

That's top 10 money. But, if he performs at that level, it's cool.

Good addition, but we definitely overpaid. If he's not an upgrade over what we already had, I question the move. Agree on him being a replacement for Freeman because there is no way we re-sign Freeman if they both serve basically the same role.

The Colts had linebacker D’Qwell Jackson in for a visit this week and they’re likely looking at him as a possibility to play inside linebacker alongside Jerrell Freeman next season.

They aren’t considering Pat Angerer for another shot at that role. Angerer is set to become a free agent on Tuesday and the Colts have let him know that he’s not part of the team’s plans in the future.

Beat me to it. Yea, he is replacing Angerer and will be a significant upgrade over Pat. I like it! Now lets get some line help...
