I like Tate, but I hope we get a center, guard, a DE, a NT, a ILB, two CB( Davis is one ) , and a safety as well Several very good WR will be there in round 2 when we pick |

Unless it's a smoke screen, sounds like the Colts are very much serious about going WR in free agency. This has me questioning a few things since we weren't that worried about WR last year (the Hewayrd-Bey signing was a late signing, almost an after thought). 1. Is there real concern about Reggie making it back at close to 100%? If not, why not go WR in the draft and groom that player? Reggie's contract isn't up until next year, so if he can make it back you could sign a free agent then. 2. Why didn't we look more seriously at WRs in last year's draft and free agency period. 3. Why didn't we make more of an effort to sign Garcon? 4. Are they not happy with the development we've seen from Rogers and Brazill? |

I love Reggie, but I'll honestly be happy if he comes back 85% of the receiver we know and love. He was already starting to hit that age when receivers slow down. I know he's a hard worker and anything is possible, but I am not comfortable hanging all my hopes on Reggie's surgically repaired knee and TY's explosive but tiny body. And everything after them is question marks at best. |

Sounds like Indy and SD will be the frontrunners for Jones: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000330815/article/james-jones-prefers-packers-colts-chargers-in-mix |

I keep wavering on acquiring a FA WR. I WOULD NOT spend a large amout of cash/bonus money on any available WR. I think we could find a starting WR in round 2. Defense and -Oline are screaming help! |

They have about 34M left, and that doesn't include the likes of Davis, Bethea, AV or Mac. Could increase that number when/if Satele hits the road. Re-signing that bunch would eat up about 23M, which I figure leaves 11M minus draft picks. That could be another 3M, then leaving a paltry 8M...but increasing to 13M when Satele gets the call from the Turk. So, 13M or so, depending on structuring and who DOESN'T get re-signed. Then you have the question of bring back Sergio Brown to contemplate. Not a heckuva lot when you break it down. With that said, I would pursue Davis at 4/34M and AV at 2/7M. I for one, wouldn't offer Bethea or Mac a viable deal going forward. I'd also find my WR in round 2 and a punter in round 6. Need to find some interior 0-Line help, D-Line help and FS help in F.A. The key going forward is how things shake out with Vontae... |

After signing Jackson, if we sign Davis I'm not sure we'll spend a whole lot more, especially on any long term deals. We're going to need some room to try and sign Luck after next season, if possible (he has two years left) and that's going to be a near record deal from what I've read. |

I ain't one bit worried about signing Luck long term. No one loses their franchise Q.B. in F.A. Plus the cap could be around 150M by that time. We also have some obvious cuts coming by then. If anything, Grigson is doing a masterful job of structuring as 2 seperate entities, vets in the next 2 years and his prize draftees of 2012, after. At least I hope so... |

So anyone know the cap situation right now with the signings and Satele cut? I wanna update some stuff on the first page and make another FA list. Edit: Updated depth chart and cap space on page 1. Here's another FA list, us sitting at around 35.5 mil in cap space. Vontae Davis - CB - 7.5 mil leaving 28 mil. Sergio Brown - S - 1.5 mil leaving 26.5 mil. Pat McAfee - P - 2 mil leaving 24.5 mil. Adam Vinatieri - K - 2 mil leaving 22.5 mil. Aubrayo Franklin - NT - 1.5 mil leaving 21 mil. Ed Reed - S - 1.5 mil leaving 19.5 mil. Charles Woodson - S - 1.5 mil leaving 18 mil. Arthur Jones - DE - 4.5 mil leaving 13.5 mil. Golden Tate - WR - 4.5 mil leaving 9 mil. Jon Asamoah - OG - 3 mil leaving 6 mil. Ryan Wendell - C - 4 mil leaving 2 mil. Man that cap goes fast. And, honestly, I don't know how we're going to be able to address the issues in the secondary, DL and OL if we sign one of these WR's we've been talking about. Gonna be tough. I know we'll be able to address some spots in the draft, but damn. We only have a handful of picks and wont start drafting until later in the 2nd round... We need future starters! Asamoah and a veteran Center on a one year deal make alot of sense to me. Re-signing Sergio and AV do too. Arthur Jones would make too much sense. Meh to Reed and Woodson. Prefer Jenkins from the Saints...Get the W.R. in round 2-3, C.B. ditto. Edited by errsay, Mar 7 2014, 06:47 PM.

Yeah. The Reed and Woodson duo has to do with us not investing long-term in the position. And those guys rotating with Landry and possibly Brown or someone else/a rookie, could be fun to watch. Not to mention what they could possibly teach the younger guys... So you don't think we invest in a FA WR or CB? I know you like the depth in the draft at those positions... Still think we at least need one FA CB, though. Especially if we don't re-sign Davis... |

Th e key to the rest of this puzzle is what happens with Vontae Davis. Huge implications and domino effect. Then we really need a true FS to let Landry do what he do. If I'm Grigson, I'm on the phone tomorrow with agents for the top-5 FA/CB's as a buffer for Vontae bolting. Byrd is now officially a fantasy, as is Decker. Worst case scenario is that Davis bolts and we sign a Sam Shields, while also drafting Toler's replacement for 2015. I consider the value in this draft for us to fall at the WR/CB positions. OT is supposed to be another... Edited by errsay, Mar 7 2014, 02:09 PM.

I like his playmaking ability more, i.e. INT's and return after the INT. Great make up speed too. Not quite as young as Vontae, but only 27. This is not to say that I don't like Vontae, just like Shileds a smidge more. Either one, is a win/win. I just think that Grigson needs to act swiftly before things evaporate on Tuesday. Alterraun Verner is gonna be out there too, almost forgot about him. Another viable option if Vontae bolts. Chris Clemons and Nate Allen are other options at FS to ponder. Verner is gonna be too expensive as well. Shields has blown open the market for CB's. Thing is we need a press-style CB, and that leaves Vontae and Talib as the true prototypes in FA. Any way you put it, either player is gonna be an expensive proposition, and Talib is hurt alot. |

I think signing a FA WR is a good idea. I don't want to overpay big time for Decker, but honestly, I realize he is going to get a big contract and I wouldn't mind if the Colts gave it to him. You have a two year window to win before Luck gets his huge pay day. I'm not saying you can't win after that, obviously the Colts can, but these next two seasons are a golden opportunity. If you go for a guy like Nicks, Jones or one of the lesser guys, you have a guy you can plug in right away, and then you can draft a WR this year, or next and develop him. I think they will get Eric Decker, Hakeem Nicks, James Jones, Emmanuel Sanders, Golden Tate or Julian Edelman. One of those guys plus: Wayne Hilton Rogers/Brazil Fleener Allen That is a crazy good passing offense with Luck. |

Colts FA rumor/gossip: https://twitter.com/HolderStephen/status/442679996780253184 Stephen Holder @HolderStephen I have good reason to believe NT is a position the #Colts are looking at right now. Unclear which specific players, but it's on wish list Soliai was discounted as the possible player being considered. |

Certainly a void...I like Soliai, but his teammate Randy Starks can play too. Linval Joseph is another. If we snag a WR in FA, I see Nicks, Jones and Tate at the forefront. I really don't see the need for overpaying a #2 as a sensible option. Edited by errsay, Mar 9 2014, 04:59 PM.
