Frees up 1.7 in cap space. Thought it would be more than that. Fine with me...

Sorry, I did not catch your post in time or I would have posted here instead. I must have been typing too slow because I couldn't see the monitor through my tears of joy! :) My bad.

It frees 4 million in cap space, with 1 million of dead money. At least that is what I am seeing. Where do you see 1.7?

No need to aplogize. Just keep posting. We need to get this place inspired a bit...
Team also makes tender offers to Cam Johnson, Joe Reitz and Josh Gordy.

Yeah, I concur. I have no idea where this 1.7 million figure is coming from. He didn't have any thing guaranteed this year.

So Satele almost covers the Jackson deal? Sweet.

Grigson must be a very adroit player in dominos.

Satele's cut numbers are as follows:

Signing Bonus: $1,066,668 (already paid; will count against the cap)
Salary: $3,900,000 (unpaid; removed from the cap)
Workout Bonus: $100,000 (unpaid; removed from the cap)

Total cost against the cap this year: $1,066,668
Total saved against the cap this year: $4,000,000

Again, I have no idea where the $1.7 million figure is coming from.

So does this mean most of the cap space devoted to Jackson will actually be covered by cutting Satele?

I see DarkHorse made the same comment. Makes that deal look a little better. Need a good center now though, or at least a really good guard, if we go with Holmes!

Colts release center Samson Satele
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
The Colts parted ways with center Samson Satele on Thursday. The Denver Post was first to report the news. Satele has started 98 games over seven seasons but was a weak link for the Indy O-line in 2013. He was due $4 million in 2014.

Someone agrees with you that it is more than 1.7 million

You guys can say the money we got for cutting Satele is what we used to sign Jackson, and it makes sense... but really we gotta turn right back around and invest that money on another center. Doubt Grigs is gonna just hand the reigns over to Holmes...

So, who we getting?

I agree. I expect a center to be signed in FA now, but I have been wrong before.

Yeah. Wondering who we get. Dietrich-Smith will probably be re-signed by the Packers, really leaving only Wendell, de la Puente, Goodwin and maybe Koppen...

Whoever we sign, I'm thinking we should bring McGlynn back strictly as a backup center/competition at center. Especially if we sign one of the older guys in Goodwin or Koppen for just a year or two. Maybe not such a big deal if we sign Wendell or Puente, though.

Anyone know of any can't miss centers that might be available in round 2 or 3 of the draft?

I think you need to focus hard on that RG spot. Center, there aren't that many options out there, you could take a guy in the draft to compete though.

LT Castonzo
LG Thomas
C ?
RG ?
RT Cherilus

If you get McGlynn, Holmes and a draft pick to compete for C, you could be alright. I don't think McGlynn or Holmes is the long-term option, but both could easily upgrade on Satele. Then sign yourself a good RG in Free Agency, and you have Thornton/Reitz/Nixon for depth.

As long as we fix one of those two positions I think we will have an acceptable OL.

We need to fix both. Somehow. I wouldn't even mind if we overkilled it. Maybe get Goodwin for a year or two, to go along with McGlynn and Holmes as backups. Thinking we'd spend 4-6 mil on Goodwin and McGlynn. Then get two solid guards in Asamoah and Saffold, Saffold being able to move to OT in a pinch. Spend maybe 6-8 mil for those two... 10 to 14 million on the OL and we're set there, and still have around 20 mil to use on the secondary and DL...

I'm sick of worrying about the OL, Luck and the RB's finding a hole. Don't just give us acceptable starters. Give us GOOD starters and GOOD depth. We're more than due.

Is Alex Mack too expensive? The rumor mill has us as a possible suitor.

He ain't gonna be cheap. But he would lockdown the position for a long time, which would be nice... and more than I can really say about anyone else we can possibly get there...

Due and cap space aren't one in the same, necessarily.

There's about 3 adequate to good Centers in the first 3 rounds.

Don't see the need for McGlynn return if we can coax Goodwin/Koppen/Wendell to Indy. Love the idea of Asamoah/Saffold.

We need to fix both.
I think I wasn't specific enough with what I meant. Fix one through spending money in free agency. Either draft a player at the other, trust last years rookies to improve, or find someone with potential but fairly cheap. I think the money is better spent on defense than OGs and Cs.
