IMO, this was a big mistake by the Colts.

10.5 Mil for 3 years with 4 mil guaranteed is nothing in today's NFL.

We're now left with a battered veteran coming off neck surgery, a good young but not dynamic player coming off knee surgery & TRich. And all when we could have signed Brown for that little - WTF!

I know they are committed to TRich - they better be right. I just have major doubts. There was a reason TRich only got 4 carries in two playoff games.

I disagree to an extent, RC. I think letting him walk for the money he's making was a wise choice. They should replace him in the draft, and I'm sure they will. RB's are not worth what they once were. It's sad, but true. T-Rich should get this year to prove himself. if he proves worthless again, then he's a goner. I don't think spending a few million per year for a 3rd or 4th string RB is a wise way to spend money.

I don't know if it's a mistake, but I never liked the idea of letting go a former first round pick who was coming off of a pretty good year.

Maybe the Colts see him as being too one dimensional, but it's true that we really don't know how/when Ballard will respond to surgery, and even though I like T Rich, he's kind of a question mark also.

Brown had some big runs for the Colts this year, and I agree, his contract is not that egregious. Colts better use that money on a center.

To put this in perspective, Brown will make more than any of the 3 running backs we have under contract this year(assuming Bradshaw didn't sign a big deal). He'll make more this year than Ballard will make the entire length of his contract. It didn't make any sense to spend this money on Brown, when you could sign Bradshaw for what will probably be almost 3 million less this year. That means we get Bradshaw and another player for the same money. Maybe 2.

You do make a good point...

Everyone is making good points, but Brown proved to be better than TRich (for last season anyway) & both Ballard & Bradshaw are coming off surgery plus Bradshaw already has so many miles on him.

I'm just venting because at this point I am really dissapointed in the TRich deal.

Brown made the most of his contract year and we helped him by running him so few times. I won't be surprised if he falls back down to Earth next season, especially if he gets more carries.

I take the opposite point of view, I'm leery of a guy who finally has a breakout year the final year of his contract.

Brown had four years with the team. Rich had 10 or so games.

Bradshaw has $575,00 plus $300,000 performance money
If he plays full year $875,000

Very reasonable deal for Bradshaw, and that's assuming he makes the team. He should, but he'll have some competition in camp.
