A sign and trade by Browns and Colts is most likely this year
Would a 3 this year and 2 this year?
High price, yes but the Browns hold all the cards

Doubt that Grigson DRAFTS another C, but maybe a roadgrader Guard, early. Adding a quality Guard could offset the weakness at the Center position. Sure couldn't hurt...
IMO, either Yankey or Gabe Jackson would good insurance for Thomas and/or competition for Thornton, if they happened to be there when the Colts pick in rd 2. Maybe a guy like Bodine later on.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Colts' first pick. They could still go a lot of different ways with it.
Both solid players. Yankey may be gone, hope that Jax is still around to consider there...

Anything new on this?

My guess is that he ends up playing for Cleveland again this year, and goes to the highest bidder next year.

He's gonna have a hard time finding a suitor for LT money. Plus he'll be a year older.

folks are saying he might sign an one year contract stating that he can not get tagged next year
that would help the Colts in 2015

We're not going to sign him in 2015. Don't see the Colts investing that much in a center. If they were really interested, they'd make an effort now.

This is just posturing by Mack and his agent.

He is going to end up in Cleveland. No one is going to pay $10-12 million for a center.

Agree with this post by Wells, we're out of the Mack race.

Personally, I would rather have an OL full of top 5-10 talent at their respective positions than pay $10 million for a single top OL anyways.

I would too, but right now we have a line full of 25 - 30 talent at their respective positions.

I just want our offense line to open holes and protect Luck
Do not care who the people are
I want a top 10 offense line
Give Luck time and he can create magic

We're somewhere between 10-15 at the tackles, I would guess. Not basing that on stats so much as the old eyeball test. Our guys are slightly above average. That's not so bad, if the whole o-line could be in the 10-15 range.

With the interior it's hard to say. We have an unproven center, a decent (at the very least average) guard in Thomas and who knows at center. Based on who we have, the unknowns and what we saw last year, the interior o-line could be bad enough to drag us down to the bottom. If everyone stays healthy, Thomas and the tackles probably tilt us to somewhere in the mid-twenties. That's not good enough!

He has agreed to the terms with the Jags. Now the Browns have to match. I'm sure they the terms of the offer are what would scare the Browns off. i really hope we didn't miss out on this one

If the terms are so poisonous that the team with the most cap space won't match to keep a player they want, what does that tell you about the deal?

CAP KILLER.

i had read an interesting article on how the Jags could come up with an offer CLE wouldn't match, which would include huge roster bonuses a year or two down the road. i don't really understand nfl contracts, cap space and bonuses as much as some people. but i guess when the details come out, we'll have a better idea

I too hope we did not miss out on this one. I felt like he could be the center for us for 10 years. Even though he would have been expensive, it is better than having a rotating door at center.

Yeah, but Cleveland has made some pretty dumb decisions. They were praised for the TR trade but more recently hammered for letting Ward walk and signing Whitner in his place.

Either way it's a case of another team in our division beefing up their offensive line, which would be scary if any of them had a QB.

It really all depends on what he ends up getting paid. Mack is great, but I don't want to dedicate a huge chunk of cap space to a center, no matter how good he is.

CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora has the details on the offer sheet transition-tagged free agent Alex Mack will sign with the Jaguars this week. It's a five-year deal worth $42 million with a player option to void the deal after two seasons. The first two years guarantee $18 million total and the third year is worth another $8 million.

And despite the expensive price tag the Jaguars put on Mack, the Browns are expected to match the deal and sign him to the same contract.

The interesting wrinkle La Canfora notes is that the Browns could end up 'renting' Mack for two years and $18 million. He could opt out in 2016 and test free agency all over again.

So for the next two years, at least, he will likely be a Brown, possibly a Jaguar, and definitely not a COLT.

Too bad.

well time to move on
hopefully Holmes is the answer
do not have faith in a rookie, so drafting a starting center is out this year
maybe if Holmes or Costa do not look good in training camp, they sign a vet FA center
