Early in the process, but I'm shifting priority focus after the initial FA frenzy. Time to begin the thought process of potential draft targets for Grigson and his trusted scouting department. My selections are complete for the time being:

Round 2: Deonne Bucannon S, Washington State

Round 3: Trai Turner G, L.S.U.

You seem more adept at evaluating college talent than I, but a LT who moves to G and is a "road grader" sounds good for the running and passing game.

Don't know that much about those players, but like the positions you address. I wouldn't even mind two offensive linemen.

I follow Baylor very closely
Love to have Richardson, hopefully he will be there in 3rd
Great picks
Do not know the safety's yet
Reading about Buchannon, sounds like a perfect fit
6'1", 200lb, average 9 tackles a game for 2012 and 2013, 3 forced fumbles
But main thing is he had 15 INT in 4 years, 6 in 2013
Will have to check him out on you tube

Colts have already been checking out Bucannon:

As mentioned, Bucannon has a penchant for INT's along with being a ferocious tackler. On top of that, he had a great combine performance which may have opened some eyes. Hopefully, not too many. Seems like the perfect fit in many ways. My approach in doing this was to pair need along with talent level in regard to the pick. The interesting dilemma I had in rounds 2 and 3, was the possibility of having Gabe Jackson (Guard from Miss. St.) there at 58, in which case I may have taken him there and opted for Ed Reynolds (Safety from Stanford) in round 3. Either way, it works...but I do prefer the Bucannon/Richardson duo a bit better.

“There are some great safeties in the draft,” Pagano said. “We have our board set, we’ll tweak it as we go through the month of April, go to pro days and gather information on the draft. We’ll see how the draft goes and how the board is once we get to our first pick. It’ll be nice to get a young one in the fold, but we’ll see how it goes.”

I am privately salivating for Bucannon, (no secret there) My order of preference would be:

Bucannon
Brooks

Bucannon sounds like a great prospect, I am completly opposed to the Colts desire for 2 in the box safeties. If they did take Bucannon, he could take over for Landry when he is cut after this season or next though. Hopefully sometime between now and two seasons from now, the Colts realize they need at least one cover safety.

Bucannon can cover with the best of them. He's always had a good amount of INT's. Last year he had 6. He is visiting the Ravens, and will undoubtedly become an All-Pro in 3 years. Just our luck...

The bend and break we're not, but I don't know of many teams that consistently run a defense with two safeties in the box. Not in the NFL. Not sure where that's coming from. Did someone with the Colts say they want to do that?

Pagano was quoted as saying he prefers "interchangeable" SS/FS types on the field together.

I've also read where in this style of defense you don't really have a SS and FS, as they're intended to switch sides at times.

I guess that was the reference to his quote.

Round 2: Deone Bucannon S, Washington State

Round 3: Cyril Richardson G, Baylor

Round 5: James Wilder jr. RB, Florida St.

Round 6: Jonathan Newsome OLB, Ball St.

This wouldn't be a bad draft but it would be better if it went like this...

Rd #2 no. 59 Gabe Jackson G Miss St Bucannon would be OK if Jackson is gone.

Rd #3 no. 90 Daniel McCullers NT Tenn 6'6" 350 lbs His ceiling is way up there. "I couldn't block'em!" -AllAmerican center

Rd #5 no.166 Kevin Norwood WR Alabama 6'2" 210 He has great hands and catches ball over DBs. Very under valued! Could be a #1 reciever in the future. This dude went from a #3 guy to being the go to guy last year for McCarron. Will be a better pro.

Rd #6 no. 203 Max Bullough ILB Mich St. 6'4" 250 Another under rated player. I think his stock goes up and he will be gone before we can get him here.

Rd #7 no.232 Vinnie Sunseri S Alabama 5'11" 210 He lacks speed but is always around the ball. he makes plays and seems to benefit from just being there at the right time. Catches deflected passes....has very good hands and read defenses. His dad is D coord at Fla St. He used to coach his son at Alabama. Vinnie is a coach on the field.

I actually had Bullough and Sunseri on my radar, along with Gabe Jackson. I want either Jackson or Bucannon badly in round 2. Not sure we need another WR, but it could be wise to stock a talented WR for 2015 and beyond. Don't think we hold a pick in the seventh round. I believe it was traded to the Rams for Josh Gordy.

Actually coming from the Ravens. Probably for the Center who's name escapes me.

A.Q. Shipley. He ended up playing guard for the Ravens, I guess.

Correct on both counts.
I have revised picks/rounds 5-7: Probably won't be the last time...

5) Dontae Johnson CB, N.C State
6) Matt Hazel WR, Coastal Carolina
7) Beau Allen, DT Wisconsin

Decent pick, but he's a CB by trade.

I see where Mayock has McCullers and Bullough's stock rising this week...

saw him on tape
he is a smooth player, not the fastest but has good instincts.
would he play CB or S ?

No thanks. Press style CB, but a bit stiff. McGill from Idaho is similar, but more fluid and can play S according to the experts. BTW, Drafttek has SJB rated 99th. overrall.

You are right about his speed. He ran a 4.6 at the combine. Not good speed for a cornerback.

Unless he plays in a cover-2, but he's a press-style C.B.

Colts have had Louisville OLB Marcus Smith in for multiple visits, who is coming off a strong senior season. Projected 2-3 round talent. 2 darkhorse OLB's that were hampered by injuries last year are Ben Gardner from Stanford and Morgan Breslin from U.S.C. Both players when healthy, really get after it. Each could be mid-late round steals for 3-4 teams.
Deone Bucannon visited Colts on Tuesday...
