Did Johnny football wear Helmet and pads to show scouts what he can do in pads?
Or did he do it for a marketing ploy?
Nike is already selling helmet and jerseys like Manziel wore yesterday.
He is more about his brand then being a team mate
In today age it is about me
But a team needs to be a team. Because of his attitude I would stay far away

Reminds me a lot of Ryan Leaf with the immaturity. Also Vince Young was a huge hype machine who's stock skyrocketed before the draft. I think the best case scenario with him is that he ends up a Phillip Rivers or Jay Cutler that can have a pro bowl year or a down year. Worst case is he's the next Leaf.

There probably will be some team dumb enough to take him in the top 10, but most NFL execs are smarter than the media give them credit for. That's why Tim Tebow never got another chance.

I will be very surprised if Manziel doesn't eventually flame out in the NFL. Might have a big rookie year like Griffin with the right team, but doubt he'll sustain it, not without working hard on his game and his knowledge of it. At best he's another Michael Vick, which would be entertaining, but not a winner.

Could it have been an agent strategy?

The accounts I read were that he did pretty well on the throwing. Showed good arm and accuracy.

The helmet might have been a strategy, but the camp shorts were all show.

So what?

He has style. That's not really a positive or a negative. It all depends on what he does with his talent. Work hard. Stay out of trouble.

According to all accounts, he did himself well at his Pro day, erasing many concerns about arm strength and throws from inside the pocket.

Personally, I've never questioned his physical talent really, not even his arm. I just don't know if he has the focus to be a good, never mind great, NFL QB. He strikes me as a guy who like Vick, or even a Jeff George if you just talk arm strength, could come in, get by somewhat on physical talent alone, and never make the added effort required to take the next step. Could very well be an average QB with a nice highlight real and an ugly record. Unless he's like Kaepernick and ends up on a team loaded with talent.

I've heard countless GM's lament that you can't measure a player's desire/heart. This is where most players "bust".
