What do you think? Was the delay done out of spite?

The timing of his release sure makes it seem like it was. I wonder where he will end up? I think someone is going to get him at a nice discount.

The Colts cant afford to sign any more running backs. We have areas of need that have to be addressed with the cap money we have left over. Signing Johnson is a luxury we can't afford.

Had we not traded for Richardson......

No, you don't have Trent Richardson, Vick Ballard and Ahman Bradshaw on the team then sign Chris johnson to what will still be a ton of money.

Beef up the O line and find a safety. We're ok at RB.

Exactly. That said, I still don't begrudge the Colts for the Richardson trade. I like that Grigson is a risk taker and I'm willing to accept the occasional negative consequences.

I'm still hopeful that Richardson and Davis will live up to the trades and contracts.

No way did I actually want Chris Johnson. I just like doing this occasionally in cut/free agent threads.

we have enough offense weapons, just need better guard and center play
we need another good corner, need a cover safety, need another big body on defense line
in draft i say
2. CB
3. SAFETY
5. NOSE TACKLE
6. GUARD OR CENTER
7. CB

I didn't think you were serious. Without Richardson it's probably worth considering, but as it stands then no.

Polian says the Colts need a young running back because Richardson hasn't panned out as yet, and everyone else is either older and/or coming off of injury.

I didn't want CJ2K but I thought I'd throw this out there since we're talking RB position.

So Polian is advocating we sign Johnson? Makes little sense. Everyone we have now is younger, just a question of whether they'll all be 100 percent and not suffer more injuries. Johnson hasn't been all that explosive of late.

No, they were going through Draft needs and he said they need a young RB for the aforementioned reasons (Richardson/older/injured). They were saying how much the Colts would miss Brown. No mention of Johnson in that convo. Sorry for the confusion.

I don't consider Johnson a 'young' RB at 28, but reading back through my post I can see that I wasn't clear. I knew what I meant though

Figures Polian would think we'll miss Brown. Everything I've seen has been critical of the Chargers for signing him for as much as they did. I could see us maybe drafting a running back late, but there are plenty to be had in free agency, both rookie and vet.

That ESPN segment was kind of funny. They did a quick piece right at the end of the show about the Colts' offseason moves.

Highlights:

Another jab about the Richardson trade and not having a first rounder.

Glossed over the D'Qwell Jackson signing.

Did not mention Arthur Jones at all.

Posed the question whether it was a net gain or loss (showed a clip of Nicks dropping a pass, some footage of Brown with a couple of good runs and said net loss). This is where Polian mentioned he thought we needed O-line, S and a young RB from the Draft.

So apparently the Colts have had a terrible offseason ^_-

Or it's like laying down on your back and pissing in the air...

Quit watching a couple years ago. Only time I ever see it now is in a bar. And even then the volume is too low, or the bar too loud, to hear anything, which is nice...

RB is one of those positions where there are question marks, but we have also already invested quite a bit in the position. Kinda like OLB or CB. Sure, there might be a need for one more RB for depth or a change of pace, but there's no way I'd spend more than a 5th round pick on the position. Not right now. And I definitely wouldn't spend much on a FA, either. We've already got 3 guys there that each have something to prove. Whether or not they CAN prove themselves doesn't matter. We've got to give them all the opportunity to.

Same here. Haven't watched it or NFL Network in months. There was no point. Only a handful of people on either channel are informative and none of them know much about each individual team. My impression of Polian on there has been that he still carries a lot of spite toward the Colts, but maybe not. As I said, it's been a while since I've watched or cared.

Polian is spinning it toward making his pick Brown better than current GM
We need CB depth, safety, guard and center depth
NT depth
