Well, this makes our handling of our center situation looks not so good all of the sudden. |

I have to believe he completed a physical before signing where the Colts staff had a chance to check out his health and signoff. Very puzzling. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/04/21/colts-center-phil-costa-retires-at-age-26/ Might be what some fans wanted though. Now forces the Colts to look at more free agents and O-linemen options in the draft. Also, better now than after the draft. Edited by Bent20, Apr 21 2014, 04:54 PM.

The problem is that we passed on the vet centers like De La Puente and Evan Deitrich-Smith(what's with all the multi-name centers in this years FA pool?) assuming that we wanted to see if Holmes could win the job while bringing in a vet who's at least been a proven starter in the league as insurance. At this point in free agency, I don't think we can find another backup who's a proven starter. We are now in the Holmes or bust camp and it puts more pressure on us to draft some solid interior linemen in the draft while not having enough picks in the first place. |

Yeah, what a joke. A 26 year old wants to live his life the way he wants to and do what he wants to and not the way some stranger on the internet thinks he should. What a joke. |

We have done zero to fix the largest area of need on our team, the interior o-line. Not sure what we should have done, but hopefully there will be a june 1st cut or something develop to fit this need. |

IS Goodwin from 49ers still out there/ he would be a short term fix Just do not feel like a second or third round rookie would make a difference next year hopefully Holmes is the man So many good safety and CB will be there in round 2 and 3 Roll the dice on a center in 5th? Would rather pick a NT in the 5th Hopefully pick up a vet center. should not be too hard to find one as good as Costa |

I aint got no beef with that. But if i was going to be a backup and hardly see the field, id damn sure enjoy collecting my paycheck anyway. At least he didnt quit for video games... |

Goodwin would actually be a really good vet insurance policy I think. It looks like he had a visit with the Saints last week. I don't think we draft a center to back up our already young center. I think we draft a guard and sign a vet center. |

Costa has every right to do what he wants, just wish that he'd made up his mind a little earlier. Well, did McGlynn sign somewhere? And if Satale is still out there, is his last contract void? In other words, could he come back for less dough? The Center candidates aren't exactly hanging on trees. |

Costa can do what he wants alright but why did he sign in the first place? If he was on the fence mentally but signed anyway we might have passed on talent we didn't feel a need to pursue. I think McGlynn signed with D.C. I wonder if Reitz can play center? |

And I'm supposed to take this post seriously from a stranger on the internet? The guy had opportunity, opportunity many only dream of, and throws it all away. Maybe he invested wisely and has great business goals. Hate to think he's giving it up to be a working stiff. |

Ideally we would draft a guard, who has experience and/or potential to play center, early in the draft or a center who can be converted to guard (didn't work with Pollak as a Colt, but who knows). That covers our bases at two positions, gives us depth. |

The Colts have cap room, and anyone out there is only going to command a 1 year deal, which won't impact signing the young guys we need to lock up after this season. So signing a C should be easy. It really does seem like they want Holmes to start though, maybe he is alright. |

One thing for sure, Roy Hibbert wouldn't be a good option at center. He'd fumble every snap. |
