Anything in the works for this year? Or does the lack of 1st round dampen the fun?

I haven't followed the build up or the prospects for the draft at all this year. I'd feel kind of dirty starting now.

That said, the draft contest is always fun. And it's always cool if the team drafts someone on your board, even if they never end up becoming much of anything...

Since we only start late in round 2, can we name our selections Friday before the draft begins? I want to at least see who's available. It could be like a few years ago when guys like Locker, Ponder and Gabbert were all top 20 picks lol.

I do not have an issue, but lets ask everyone else
Bent, Errsay, anyone else have any thoughts?

You guys are more experts on the draft than me, so I'll defer to your judgment. Just note that the topic is pinned now everyone, so post your entries there.

I apologize. I didn't want to come in and change the rules in my first year. if you guys have a system, i'll gladly adhere to the rules of that. i just wasn't sure how this all worked. I'll make a quick board prior to Thursday's draft and if all my guys are still there come Friday, i'll leave it as is.

Don't get the reason for having 3 options in the first round then only two in the rest of the draft. The fact is, its even tougher to nail the right guys in the later rounds. We all know much better who the Colts are looking at with our first pick so we get to name three probables there but only two later when we're all just making wild guesses.

I say, we name as many as 4 guys for each pick, each earning fewer points than the one before. Also, you can earn a small number of points for naming a player in the wrong round but only if you miss by one round...that way you can't load up in multiple rounds. Only allowing us to list a player once in the whole draft would help make it fair.

example: Picking one player with your first pick might earn 5 points...with the second pick 4 points and so on. Naming a player in the 3rd round who might be drafted in the round above or below would get 1 point.

This way we all have a better shot at hitting the target. To me its why soccer is not at all interesting. Scores of 1 to nothing means who cares. High scoring contests are more fun. But I'll play even if if ain't no fun.

hey adance it sounds great if you want to take the lead , go for it.
that is the way we did it in the past. but we have got to decide like this morning so there will not be confusion. draft sarts tomorrow night.
but hitting the correct picks in the 5, 6, and 7 rounds is very hard. even the Gm today do not know who they wil pick in those rounds
i too like high scoring. but there has to be limits. there has to be a cut off time to submit picks
on time, what if colts trade up to 1st round? have to have picks in by the first round. on picks, i was going to figure the scoring out. so did not want too many.
right now we have 16 choices. with yours it would be 19 or 20 if we pick 4 in the 2nd round
but hey i am game.

Personally, I say 2 for each pick. The wildcard caveat is a nice touch. In other words, make your pick along with an alternate for EACH ROUND, and ONE widcard for the entire process.

I've spent my whole life making up my own rules and playing with myself....make that, by myself.

I prefer three picks in each round, A, B and C.

If you hit with your A pick its worth 10 pts. The B pick gets you 8 pts. The C pick earns 6 pts.

If you hit with any of the three picks in the round before or the round after that is worth 4 pts.

You can only name a player once.

If we make a trade any extra picks aren't counted unless they are near the on we traded. In other words, if we trade our #90 pick for a #105 pick and a #150 pick, our #90 picks will count in the #105 spot and the 150 spot goes unguessed. However, if you hit on a player picked at 150 and you have him in one of your picks either before or after that 150 pick, then your hit will be worth 4 points.

The deadline for submitting picks should be before the 40th selection is made in the second round. I could post that time here the instant that pick in announced. If your post is before that you are good. These gives us just a bit of an edge in case some of our guys go at #39 or earlier. I like the frenzy that might cause.

Any thing wrong with this? If you guys like it I'll start a new thread and we can start.

OK, I'll start a thread. We might be the only two. We'll play for a beer in case we ever meet.
I didn't know there was already a pinned contest on this board! Sorry, I'll join in the one that exists.
