Colts go WR in the third round with Donte Moncrief - 6'2" and 221. STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES STRENGTHS: Moncrief's thick frame, deceptive speed and smooth route-running make him a nightmare for cornerbacks. He does not possess the explosive moves of Southern Cal's Marqise Lee or Clemson's Sammy Watkins but might be a better player than either of them. He is sudden in his breaks, showing the ability to generate separation even against tight man coverage, and accelerates quickly, often leaving defenders in his dust on double-moves. Moncrief tracks the ball well and generally shows excellent hands (one drop vs. Texas), as well as the body control to make the dazzling grab. Moncrief is also cognizant in the running game, showing awareness and toughness as a downfield blocker WEAKNESSES: Perhaps the only thing standing in Moncrief's way of becoming the first "skill-position" player from Mississippi to earn a first round draft selection since Eli Manning (No. 1 overall, 2004) is the question about his straight-line speed. Moncrief was not caught from behind on tapes viewed and was credited with a surprising 4.34-yard 40-yard dash at the combine. Needs to work on route-running, as do most rookie receivers. Does not always play up to his size and not allow cornerbacks to break up as many passes. Not electric in the open field. --ROB RANG http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1878014/donte-moncrief |

If he can develop this year, we might not need Nicks for more than one season. Could be our new Garcon. |

Off the chart measurables and had a monster combine. Needs to be motivated and pay attention to Reggie's words of wisdom. Sky's the limit if he wants it. |

We are loaded at Receiver now. Clearly the way our offense went in the tank when Reggie went down didn't go unnoticed.

This is the bigger receiver we needed to pair with Hilton. If Rogers develops, sweet. We've gone from being very depleted, almost desperate, at WR last year, to being potentially loaded with talent there this year - assuming guys recover from injury and improve. |

Moncrief had the second fastest 40 for a WR at combine. fast, big, good hands, nice pick up. but wayne, nicks, hilton and now moncrief. plus maybe rogers will we keep 6 WR |

I think Rogers stays on the PS, then it's a question of do we keep Whalen or Brazill. |

I think someone will nab Rogers off the PS if they put him there. Donte Moncrief highlights: http://youtu.be/XpOHRPmhErw Edited by DarkHorseColts, May 9 2014, 11:39 PM.

So what is the word on why Moncrief fell so far? Know it's a deep WR draft but several went before him. |

I don't think they risk Rogers on the PS. I think if Whalen isn't PS eligible, he's gone. And either we keep 6 receivers, or we cut Brazill too. Probably we keep 6. |

Maybe punts. I'd rather not see it though on kickoffs. Just a way to get a young player hurt. Under the current kickoff rules having a good returner isn't all that important. Even Hester hasn't returned a kickoff for a TD since 2011. |

I am as big of fan of Whalen as anyone. The guy works hard, has dynamite hands, and runs great routes. But he just can't get consistent separation at the NFL level. The speed isn't there. Not sure why he would be a front-runner to make the roster as a receiver. Brazill showed more promise, imo. I look at Montcrief and wonder why he fell to us as well. From all I've read he's 6'2", 220lbs, runs a 4.34 40, but 'might' need some work on his route running? On the the videos I see a guy who outruns everybody without looking like he's trying. Can't wait to see if that translates to the NFL level. |

Apparently, his hands are also a question mark (that can be said for about any big, fast, outside threat). I've read a few analysts say he's raw but has no. 1 potential. Again, sounds like our new Garcon. Let him improve for a couple of years and see what he can become.

Yeah, Whalen is most likely gone. Hilton and Wayne can take care of slot receiver duties just fine. |

Think the only thing we'd get for Whalen, or maybe even Brazill, is a sixth or seventh round pick. |
