Anyone else following the World Cup? Tonight was the best and worst of being a soccer fan. Looked like the US had it and then a miracle goal from Portugal turns elation into a disappointing, heartbreaking draw. |

That was a very tough tie. Beforethe game started, I would gladly taken a draw in that game but when you have the lead with 30 seconds left, your expectations change. Heck of a cross by Ronaldo. I think the U.S. team relaxed just a little and it bit them. I didn't realize DeMarcus was from Ft. Wayne before the World Cup started. |

Howard noted if roles were reversed and the US had scored that goal to tie fans would have been going nuts and thrilled. Very true, BUT that wasn't the case and truthfully, it felt like a loss. Give Portugal's strikers credit for their amazing talent for sure, but our defenders are always so weak and never looked more so than on that play - jogging back instead of going full sprint like everything came down to that play, which it did. I said earlier in that game - at least half seriously - that if we could get some of our all-world athletes from other sports - Lebron, Kobe, Mike Trout, name any super stud NFL TE or WR, to play as our defenders just for the World Cup, we'd almost be better just on sheer physical skill alone. |
