I'm watching this GB & Minn game and I'm wondering how many "good games" have we seen this season? This game is now a series of "blowouts". Certainly a lot of people have left watching this game and many others this fall.
We no longer have the game we had years ago. Flags and new rules have given the "O" side of the ball far to may advantages. How could we possibly compare today's QB to the 1980's QB?
Am I wrong in this or do you think we have a better game?

I dont know if its as cut and dry as saying its better or worse.

Its probably because im a Colts fan, but I honestly got tired of seeing defenders dragging wide receivers to the ground all day. There is no talent or skill in just mugging the hell out of a guy trying to catch a ball, any of us could do that.

However, I will say, i think its gone to the side of extreme in how they call every little thing on defenders. Its going to result in a lot more lopsided victories and watching penalty flags fly all game is not fun at all.

Honestly I think the biggest thing that has affected the quality of play in the NFL is free agency. Don't get me wrong, I totally support the players getting paid. The owners still make a ton of money in this league but before the strikes in the 80s it was much worse. I get the reasoning behind free agency, but I wish there were another way to pay players without having to leave a team. It mostly affects offensive lines and defenses. Learning the nuances of the guys playing next to you, and developing that chemistry and communication makes such a difference. When teams were able to stay together back in the day, you saw a difference in these areas.

Football has more parity now than it ever has. And it's a good thing. Every year some team that no one thought had a chance at the beginning of the season makes a run. So every year every team has real hope that they've got a shot this year. And just look at our pick em results if you think it's easy to pick who's going to win on any given Sunday.
