Receivers against man coverage

It is frustrating to watch on tv, but it seems our receivers really struggle against man coverage. Other than TY, they aren't getting open. It could be, though, that I just don't see it. I know a couple of times Luck missed a wide-open outlet receiver. Easy to do when guys are hanging on you.

The PI call on the db against Nicks was garbage. But then again, the same db pretty much hugged him and faceguarded him on a similar play that wasn't called earlier in the game. Still, you hate to see that call made at an influential time of the game.

Luck is throwing it up for Nicks to make a play, but so far I haven't seen Nicks do much more than any other wr in the league.

It seems both Nicks and Wayne at times it is hard for them to get sepration against tight coverage. But Wayne is still great and Nicks is good. Very happy with passing offense

...The PI call on the db against Nicks was garbage...
I disagree MrCC's.

It may have been tick-tacky but the DB made contact & kept him from running his route more than 5 yds down field. This at a minimum is illegal contact & if the ball is in the air at the time of the contact it becomes PI.

Wayne and Nicks have lost much speed, but Reggie will always have the great hands.

From my perspective, Nicks ran into him. He has a right to be there.

You can't cut off a receivers route. Despite what Phil Simms said last night swearing that you could, it is not legal for a cornerback to basically "take a charge" like its basketball. If you run in front of the receiver, stop and make him hit you, its pass interference.

I understand why you're saying, but in my fallible remembering of the play I though Nicks ran straight into the defender. The defender didn't run in front of Nicks are veer into him to alter his route. He just was there and Nicks ran right up to him into his chest.

I would have to watch it again. It is very possible I didn't see it right.

I still thought the same route earlier in the game deserved the flag more. In that play the defender had a hold of Nicks the whole way down the field.
