I know we have harped on this for years, but over 6 games the Colts have given up an NFL low 30% conversion rate on third down. 19 out of 64 attempts. That is insane. Proud of that. |

That is directly attributed to our improved coverage. For years we saw receivers just flat out WIDE open. We'd see receivers catching balls without a DB even in the picture. Now corners are with their man, contesting passes. |

The 10 yard cushions we gave are no longer. No more do we see receivers free to run slants or come backs for an easy first down. If we had a more consistent pass rusher (Mathis), the defense would be crazy good. The sacks would pile up. We already have 17 this year being creative and getting pressure, which is i think the third most. Cant imagine Mathis flying off the edge all the time. |

Mathis's and Freeney's talents were so underutilized in those defenses. They would have been even more devastating to offenses if we just pressed the receivers a little instead of willingly letting them catch every pass. |

Press coverage and a pass rush as good as the one we had would have made that defense epic. But we could not stop the run for crap. |

Big test for the defense this weekend against Cincy. Hoping to see Dalton on his back a couple of times. |

It is great to see pressure on pass plays It is great to see our CB actually near the receiver when the pass get there Speaking of Freeney, before the Sunday games, he was #2 in QB pressures behind Watt Just read on Monday morning QB by Peter King that Colts have allowed only 3 third down conversions in the last 3 games. That is huge, never heard of such a thing. Great third down defense Edited by cedjss, Oct 13 2014, 01:08 PM.

I forgot to mention how great the defense has been on 3rd. down efficiency to date. Good to see it brought to light. This is a HUGE step in the right direction. HUGE. |

On his radio show this evening, Pagano said they should have Butler back and Jones is very close and if he didn't practice Wednesday, he would be shocked if he didn't practice Thursday. Also Mewhort and Thornton are expected back this week. Edited by Gary1888, Oct 13 2014, 08:12 PM.

Just let us stay healthy from here on out. If we can be healthy going into the playoffs I love our chances against teams like the Patriots and Broncos. |

Yea...a couple of weeks ago I was concerned about this coming game against the Bengals. Not so much anymore. Bengals defense has given up a bunch of points the last two weeks. If the Colts can stay healthy, it seems like there is at least a little bit of depth on the roster compared to other years. They substitute pretty freely without a huge drop off. May not be a lot of Pro Bowlers, but definitely a lot of them getting the job done. |

Honestly I just want to see us stop with the mind numbing mistakes that let teams back in games we should have wrapped up. If we had just not turned the ball over against the Eagles, Ravens and Texans, those would have been 3 fairly easy wins. Lets just stop being lazy with the ball, because the schedule is about to get a lot easier, Steelers, Browns, Redskins, Giants, Jags, Titans, should all be easy wins. We should be able to beat the Bengals with that defense as well and the other Texans game is at home. The Cowboys and Pats will both be tough, but really thats it for the rest of the season. |

I don't consider the Steelers, Browns, Redskins, or Giants as easy wins. I think we are probably better on paper than all of those teams, but all of them are good enough to give us a game. Especially the Browns. I don't think people have realized how well they've played so far this year, especially in comparison to their past. |

The Steelers just got blown out by the Browns and lost to the Bucs this year. The Redskins are 1-5 and a complete mess. The Giants offense is pathetic this year and they just lost Cruz for the season. The Browns are probably the best of these 4 teams, but they aren't a playoff team. |

Just keep Vontaze off the field so he doesn't go after people's ankles. Who on our team is coming off of ankle injuries, if any? Apparently, that's what he was doing against the Panthers. Pathetic waste of a player if you ask me. Luckily, the NFL is looking into Carolina's allegations. |

THIS!!!! Way too many mental mistakes... even by Luck. Some poor decisions to pass that could have been interceptions if the defender hadn't dropped. He has to learn to eat it or throw it away. The team needs to get tougher mentally or this kind of stuff will catch up sooner or later. As Jedi said, it has already cost us possible wins. |

Colts are now the only team allowing less than 30% of third down conversions. I dont expect it to continue but id love to see how long they can keep it up. Maybe its because of past defenses, but i just keep waiting for that random collapse. So far it only seems like they keep getting BETTER. Its so different... |

It's been an amazing transformation from a defense that just couldn't get off the field to one that I now expect to get the ball back. I think it's as much a result in the change in how the corners play as much as anything and having some beef up front that can hold their own on the run game doesn't hurt either. I wonder what the total cap hit of the defense now is compared to what it was a few seasons ago? Would it have been possible to build the same defense then and still have the superstar salaries on the offense? |

Personally I would have been ok with allowing Clark go if it meant we could have a better defense. Overall though I think it is more scheme, and getting the right players for that scheme than anything.

I do think we should win these. I think we are better than these teams. It's just that I don't think they are easy wins. I wouldn't be surprised if we go 4-0 through this stretch, but I also wouldn't be surprised if we found a way to lose 1 or 2 of them. There are only a handful of teams in the NFL who are so bad that they don't have a chance to win week to week. |

Steelers are trying to begin their resurgence for this season. Theyve changed up their starting line up and are apparently changing up the offensive play calling. The game is tougher now than it would have been last week. If the defense holds true to what they have been the last few weeks, it will be that much more impressive. |

I agree that the CB play is the core of the improvement... havin biggies in the middle help a whole lot too. Redding is playing great as well. Walden and Werner getting better. Last week was a real joy yo behold! |

The Texans completely imploded in the final 3 minutes of the first half against them or they would have won easily. Steelers are not a good team this year at all. Ben is a good player, they can run the ball really well, that's about it. |

I fully agree on the Texans game. The steelers wouldnt have been able to put a long drive together to save their lives. Texans gifted them two short fields in a row. But im not ready to write off the steelers. We are right in the thick of things. Everything is a threat. |

The steelers defense got them those two really short drives by creating two turnovers. It's not like the colts are turnover proof. I think colts are definitely the better team but the best team doesn't always win. |

We can give the Steelers all the credit in the world, but just watch the game. The Texans kick returner bobbled the ball like it was a greased pig and got tackled at the 5. The Steelers did nothing to make that happen. It wasn't like these were huge hits or great plays by the Steelers, the Texans just completely imploded. |

The Colts are doing exactly what great teams do. They are pummeling the lesser teams. Showing true dominance over them. Do i expect the defense to continue at this insane rate? No, I dont. But I think theyre still a top 10 defense. |
