Other than turnovers we are playing fantastic football, but these turnovers have to stop before they lose us a game. If we can tighten it up and don't see how we don't go deep in the playoffs. We finally have a defense that can win us games and an o-line that can run the football. Luck made some great throws, and some really bad ones. He doesn't seem quite as comfortable this year even though he has a better o-line and better receivers. He just seems a bit more inconsistent, but that might just be a matter of perception and a lack of reliable memory from the last couple of years. Glad Walden is playing better, but he made a real stupid mistake and will be an easy target for anybody looking to draw a personal foul against us. I hope they run a continual loop of Gresham dancing like a girl and pointing at him after he baited Walden into that penalty. Walden needs to watch it every day to realize how stupid he was to let that moron cause him to be ejected from the game. On another note, how wrong is it that Walden will probably be fined more for what he did than Burfict was for repeatedly and purposefully trying to injure other players. Davis and Toler played phenomenal today. Thornton and Mewhort struggled a bit, and Cherilus did again as well. Still, we ran the ball well and I don't think o-line play was bad at all. I want TRich to succeed, and he is running better. But Bradshaw has more energy and burst than he does. For TRich to get to that level I think he needs to lose a few pounds and get lighter on his feet while increasing his leg drive. If you watch great runners, they know how not to get their legs wrapped up. It seems like Trent gets taken down too often by arm tackles and people grabbing his feet. He needs to learn from Bradshaw how to avoid that. He does seem to be improving every game, though. Glad to hear Reggie will be back. That was a scary way his arm bent. Thought we lost him forever on that one. |

I thought TRich had a very good game. He ran for 70+ yards and caught 4 passes for a total of over 100 yards of "O". I like our combination of RB's. Rich fumbled once but I thought Luck made a bad handoff to him on the play. Others can look at it again on replay but that is just my opinion. I agree about Reggie. Sure hope no lasting problem. Where is Nicks in our passing game? Our question seems to be not who is our #1 WR but who is our #2? |

Trich is a bull. He isnt a bradshaw type of back and i dont think it would be ideal to try to make him into something he is not. |

I say the replay on Walden. Walden only mistake might have been when his LEFT arm (which was opposite of the official who was on his right) swatted at the Bengals player. If anything, the replay shows the ref having HIS hand on Walden BEFORE Walden swats at the other player. It does appear that Walden's right arm goes up a bit, but my goodness. It was NOTHING. The left arm swatted at the Bengals player. It seems to me that the official initiated the contact, NOT Walden. If that is the case, and with this it appears Walden's contact with the official was incidental, and there is no malice in the touching (which appears to be nothing in this case), then I'm sorry. Officials should keep their mitts off of the players then. I hope the NFL reviews this and if they see what I see, then they should issue a statement that the ejection was NOT warranted and he won't be fined. But, the official should be suspended and fined if you ask me. Of course, I believe fining DOES occur for officials but they won't release it. To me, that's BS. They should have to inform the public and the NFL when officials get fined. Only seems fair. If coaches and players suspensions and fines are public knowledge, then so should officials. We always have work to do. After we beat Seattle and SF last season, most of us thought we were Super Bowl bound. Have to keep working, keep getting better, sustain the momentum. |

2012 - 54.1 completion percentage 2013 - 60.2% 2014 - 65.9% Probably the matter of perception you eluded to, plus a possible heightened level of expectation. Very good point, I had not thought of that. I don't know about most of that, but I do know this was TRichs best game as a Colt & I want to give him some props for it. I have been one ragging on him some & he deserves credit for his play yesterday. Of coarse after he has his best game they show him on the sideline with his hamstring iced. I hope it is nothing serious.
I have to disagree. The official had his hand on both players holding them apart & at the end of the exchange Walden intentionally swats the officials hand away. Was not anything malicious but it was intentional none-the-less. That is the way I saw it anyway. Edited by rccolts, Oct 20 2014, 09:28 AM.

Yeah, I think we've just reached the point with Luck where we expect him to be amazing. I remember hearing he was off last week too and then looking at his stat line and he had 370 yards and 3 touchdowns. He's got 5 straight 300 yard games and 6 out of 7 this year. He's completing at almost 66% on the year. His rating is up over 100. His TD to int ratio could be a little better, but it's not bad. He's having a pro bowl year. He might be the best QB in the league through 7 weeks. I think we're probably nit picking over a missed throw here and there. He's been great. |

Luck is also leading the league in passing yards (on pace for 5,000 this season), tied with Peyton for the lead in TDs (19 - on pace for 43), leads the league in passing yards per game with 333, has the 7th highest QB rating (ahead of guys like Brady), has the most pass attempts (302) and he's rushed for two TDs. |

I'm in no way critical of Luck's play. He is not perfect but I do not expect him to ever be perfect. I merely felt he was partially responsible for TRich's fumble. Peyton still makes mistakes. Andrew is Andrew with a different set of skills than Peyton. He does some amazing things for the Colts and I just hope we keep him healthy to keep on with what he is doing even with a few errors thrown in. |

I wasn't being critical of Luck in any way except some uncharacteristic interceptions, particularly when we are in scoring position. The whole premise was about turnovers as they have kept opponents in the games where we have dominated otherwise. That's what I meant about inconsistency, not that he's been off production-wise. There's no way anybody can complain about our offensive production these last several games. I tend to be more critical after wins and more supportive after losses. I'm just weird that way. So while TRich had a great game, I am looking at ways for him to improve. I still think he gets brought down by being tripped and people grabbing his feet too much. And losing 15lbs won't make him any less a bull, but if he gets 1/2 step quicker it will be worth it. If he continues to play faster like he's been doing, then it isn't as much a function of weight as it is just confidence. |

I think Luck still needs to work on his accuracy. I feel like his passes are still too often either too high or behind the receiver when it shouldn't be. It is much better than it was last year, but still not at an elite level yet. |

I would be shocked if Walden faces any other kind of punishment at all. He did nothing at all on that play. Not enough to warrant a flag and certainly not enough to be ejected. You see refs get downright thrown to the ground when 2 players are going at each other, and usually thats just offsetting penalties for both players that are fighting with each other. As for Luck, he does have things to work on. We're used to Peyton so when we see the areas of Luck's game that are not up to Peyton's standards, we expect him to do better. Luck holds the ball a lot longer than Peyton, I don't think Peyton gets sacked at all yesterday if he was in that game, and certainly not the 2nd one. They blitzed and we didn't leave a RB or TE in to block, so that's 5 rushers against our 5 o linemen. Luck still had 2 seconds to throw with several of our receivers in man coverage. Also he isn't as accurate. He had several throws yesterday that were off, even on some completions as there were at least 3 passes that were well behind the receiver but he managed to make the catch. With all that being said, there are a lot of other areas where Luck is better than Manning. He's bigger, stronger, faster. There is no way Peyton scores a TD on that play against Kansas City in the playoffs last year. Peyton dives on that ball and loses yards, he doesn't pick that up and dive into the endzone. Also Luck is a lot better at making a play when things break down. With Manning he beats you before the snap. He figures out what the defense is doing, knows who he is throwing it to, throws to a spot and finds the open man. If the defense fools him he's toast. Manning has one of the worst QB ratings all time when flushed out of the pocket. Luck on the other hand can scramble and make things happen. He doesn't lose his cool, he keeps looking down field, and he's really hard to bring down. So for every sack Luck takes by holding the ball too long, there will be another one where he escapes the tackle and scrambles away. Manning doesn't do that. |

This thread is about cutting down on mistakes. We can never eliminate them. It would only be in a perfect world. What mistakes have we cut down on this year? 1. Our "O" scoring early and not getting behind early. 2. Third down "D". 3. Run "D". 4. Run "O". |

I would add 'Time of Possession' and '3rd down conversion rate' to that list as well, Manitoulin. Great list. The mistakes I had more in mind were turnovers, penalties, and just mental breakdowns. Not sure what the stats are for those. I will say that I haven't seen our o-line blow many assignments this year or fail to pick up as many blitzes. They've really improved in those areas. |

I think maybe I should have included our Coaching staff. I think they have really grown into the job or They were on the right track and I was the one behind the curve. I think they have improved in their management of the game. One more comment. Is Jim's daughter undefeated as an owner? Edited by Manitoulin, Oct 20 2014, 05:44 PM.

That last game was just about as good as it gets for the COLTS. The defense was phenomenal. The offense went up and down the field. You never want to see turnovers, but lets give the Bengals a little credit here. Nice play pulling the ball out. The COLTS play like that every week and the Lombardi is coming to Indy. |

I don't see where Mewhort and Thornton struggled in Sunday's game. Gosder continues to, but not the other 2. Harrison is coming on quickly too... |

I thought in the first quarter Mewhort got pushed back in the pocket more than normal, and Thornton wiffed on a couple of blocks in the run game, but both seemed to improve and adjust as the game went on. They were also going up against some great tackles, so you have to take that into consideration. Harrison had his best game, imo. |

Well if anyone is watching the Broncos game they had a fumble and Peyton just fell on it, then threw a TD pass 2 plays later. |
