Yes, Broncos are good, but Chargers are being exposed as a very average team tonight. Simms and Nantz referring to Rivers as an "elite" QB. Are you kidding me?

Simms really does hate the Broncos, or Peyton. They are flat out rooting for the Chargers tonight. Complaining about every call against the Chargers. No wonder the Broncos fans want him out.

I think anyone (probably) on this board would do a better job than Simms. I don't like listening to him at all, unless to laugh at something he has said! lol Simms is now sucking up to Denver with 1:15 to go saying they are the best team in the NFL. lol

The chargers don't have a defense and I'm not too impressed...

Rivers actually played very well tonight. Had some great passes. He still seems like a real jerk, though.

The chargers defense isn't very good, but if you have all you cb's injured it would be tough to play Manning.

The commenting official (Carey?) can just be so wrong it makes me glad he's off the field. The fact that they played the replay of the questionable fumble call AGAIN in the second half after the River's interception was just weird. What was up with that?

Chargers play a dink and dunk offense. Not that hard for Rivers to look good. He's an above average QB, but not great or anywhere close to elite.

I am pretty sure most if not all Colts fans wanted him removed when the Peyton played for the Colts too.

Well, while i wasnt too impressed with the chargers, I wasnt too impressed with Denver either. Their defense can be had and hell, if we had someone to cover Julius Thomas, their offense wouldnt have been able to do anything against us either.

I like our chances!

Sorry, but SD is way above average imo. Rivers is an excellent Q.B. They were banged up for this game and faced a tough task v.s. a very good team on the road, on a short week. The Chargers have been a thorn in our side for like a decade. I kid you not.

We've only played them once in the Luck era, so it's hard to say how we'd do against them now.
Also, what has Rivers done to be considered "excellent" or "elite" as Nantz described him last night? He's been in the league 10 years and what has he done? He's good, I'd go as far as very good, but excellent, top five in the league?

I don't think so. He puts up good numbers on a SD team that is usually pretty good. He's steady, reliable. A true difference maker? No, not really.

He's not in the elite group of quarterbacks. The only guys that have been in that groupf of late are Manning, Rodgers, Brees, and Brady, although I'd argue Brady hasn't been in that group for a decent stretch now. He's definitely in the next group though and is an excellent QB. Damn near every year the guy throws for 4k yards, 30ish tds, and a 65% completion rate. Year in, year out, despite having or not having weapons at his disposal. He's not a likable guy, at all. I personally hate the Chargers(they are in my triumvirate of hate - patriots, steelers, chargers) for all the pain in our ass that they've been. But I can't say that he's not a good quarterback.

As long as he's been there, the Chargers have been a perennial competitor to make the playoffs, even when their cupboard was pretty bare of talent. The guy can play. I'd rather have Luck, but Rivers is probably one of the 10 best active quarterbacks in the world. That's not nothing.

Well stated. I never meant to imply that Rivers was in the "elite" class of Q.B.'s, but like Flacco/Ryan/, he can provde many problems to an opposing defense, more times than not. But let's not make him out to being chopped liver. I would call him a "second tier" Q.B. myself.

My apologies to girls worldwide, but when they said Rivers could throw the ball accurately at any angle last night I just about spit out my bourbon. Rivers throws like a girl so I have no idea how he gets any accuracy at all. He does, but I'm amazed with his throwing motion.

I think the Chargers have a tremendous set of weapons at receiver. They are loaded with great talent there.

That and they usually have a back that he can throw a three yard pass to and watch gain 20-30, if not a TD.

Think we're actually all in agreement. Rivers is very good, not top tier or elite. I think Luck is already as good (probably better, but obviously I'm biased) in his third year.

In the defense of Rivers, I will say their front office on more than one occasion has depleted his weapons corp to a level of awful.

A couple of years ago i think their number one receiver was a grocery bagger they signed in like week 2.

Exactly, everyone knows you find future hall of famers at your local IGA. I'd feel bad for him, but look what Luck did last year with a roster of no names (save for Hilton). Look what Peyton did in 2007.

Yes but how often do you hear about a street signing after the start of the season having the be your number one receiver? How bad do your TEs (Gates missed a lot of games back then) and WRs have to be?

Rivers isnt on the same level as Luck or Peyton by any means. Just saying its hard to be consistent, let alone any good, when your front office gets rid of a guy the minute you get any sort of comfort level with him. Continuity is important for a QB.

Three losses in a row now, for Rivers. And this time, a 37-0 drubbing at the hands of the Phins. Seems like the Phins are for real.
