I just heard that Pags has said the Laron Landry will not play Monday night against the Giants.

Neither will Jones or Walden.
Right...but they are hurt. I do not think Landry is hurt. At least he was not on the injury list.

On the plus side, Reggie and Vontae are ready to go.

Not really all that distressed that Landry and Jones are not playing. Walden will hurt a bit, though.
Can't believe I actually feel that way this season.

Jones has played fairly well. Sounds like Landry isn't being activated because they recognize he's a liability.

The reason they gave earlier in the week was that he needs to get back into football shape. We'll know for sure next Tuesday when they have to cut him or activate him.

It will depend mostly on the cap repercussions. Too much of a hit, and he stays.

Was he not working out while out? It was only four weeks, shouldn't have lost that much if he was actually active and working out.

I agree, it all seems very strange. Especially with our "depth" at safety. But that's what they seem to be saying.

I think not activating him says a lot. Does anyone think that if Mathis had been healthy that the Colts would not have activated him immediately once his suspension was lifted?

Not sure what the Colts will do though, because releasing him will be pretty expensive. But this lack of activating him immediately seems to suggest the Colts may feel his backups are out playing him.

As soon as he was physically fit enough to play he would have played. Might limit his snaps a bit until he was in game shape, but I would have expected him to play his first week back.

I think they have to do something with him Tuesday. He goes on the active roster or they have to cut him...unless they could find a reason to put him on injured reserve.

Just keep him around for depth and run downs. Cut him at season's end. We're gonna need the money to sign Justin Houston. *wink wink*

we need him for the playoffs guys. i realize he's not what we had hoped for, but he's also the kind of bad-ass we need rushing the QB in the playoffs from a safety position. keep him for depth and cut his ass after the season. Draft Landon Collins in the first and we're good to go

Hopefully his play will improve
He has the talent, he us big and fast
But his instincts are not the best
Maybe use him more in the box
Hopefully he cones back at a pro bowl level

Ain't happening anytime soon, but he should be part of a plan in slowing down Gronk in 2 weeks.

We don't really need a safety playing in the box though against the real threats like Denver and New England. We need safeties who can cover the field. Our run defense has been solid.

True on safety in box , maybe put him as nickel or dime ILB
Just hope they find a use for him and he does well
But do not see him coming back next year unless his play improves

I have advocated playing him in a hybrid role, especially against pass happy teams and teams with strong T.E.'s...like we will face in 2 weeks. You better believe that they will be watching alot of tape from the Pitt. game with how they were using so many bunch formations, trying to stay away from Davis and Toler straight up.

Agreed, I was completely surprised that the G-Men did not employ this strategy at all last night. You can be assured that New England will at least try this out to see if we have corrected the glaring weakness exposed by the Steelers.

He was reactivated today, so he'll at very least finish the season.

"The Colts today activated safety LaRon Landry from the Exempt/Commissioner Permission list and activated tackle Xavier Nixon from Injured Reserve/Designated for Return. The team waived cornerback Jalil Brown and tackle Jamon Meredith from the active roster and waived fullback Stanley Havili from Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (Failed Physical)."

I'm anxious to see if Nixon can provide some help along the O-Line.

I like that...maybe replace Jackson on obvious passing downs.

I'm not sure Landry is better in coverage than Jackson. He's actually been equally terrible. Against slower TEs and RBs, sure, not against faster backs and slot receivers.

I used to be able to name everyone on the active roster from week to week. Now we frequently have guys like Brown and Meredith that I'd never heard of. Says a lot about how far we still need to go with filling out our depth - and how old me and my memory are getting.

I'm right there with you on this. It wasn't all that many seasons ago that I could talk in depth about everyone on our roster. Now there are quite a few that I know little or nothing about.

He'd better be, Jeezaloo. I wouldn't want to see Landry covering Edelman, but I sure as heck would rather have him on Gronk than Jax.
