This article touches on it. So how much longer before Moncrief takes most of Nicks reps? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000420726/article/colts-donte-moncrief-im-just-scratching-the-surface Edited by Bent20, Nov 3 2014, 10:01 AM.

Tonight I hope. Moncrief has out played Nicks by a wide margin. He is a play maker and you can't have too many of those. I'd like to see him get 5 or 6 targets tonight. |

Nicks has been a disappointment. Without watching it live, I don't know if Luck just isn't going to him or if he can't get open. I would guess the latter. |

He's been struggling to get separation. I could see Nicks being a little extra motivated tonight though against the Giants. |

Moncrief is definitely the future but I'm sure the Colts will be patient in their implementation of him. Also, I would think the Colts are going to give Nicks his opportunity against the Giants. |

I was saying the same thing about being patient, but after last week, I'm not sure it's necessary. |

It has been weird...often when Luck goes to him it is just a bit off for some reason. I really do not know if Luck thinks Nicks is a quicker than he is or if he just does not run crisp routes. But, it just seems like the communication is not there and I am not sure why. |

I think by now, everyone knows Luck will find you if youre open. I think Nicks just simply cannot get open. It looks like Luck has even tried to force a couple to him, which annoys the crap out of me because part of me feels like he does it because Nicks is probably complaining. |

Nicks caught one of six targets last week. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5136/hakeem-nicks At this point, it can be argued that Avery was a more effective receiver for us and up to a point, so was DHB. Edited by Bent20, Nov 3 2014, 02:54 PM.

I don't care what the stats say or what website you're looking at. No way was DHB a more effective anything than Nicks or anyone else. DHB was terrible. I don't know what is going on with Nicks, but with the way Moncrief has been playing, I don't understand why he wouldn't be our #3 WR behind Wayne and Hilton. Ask a hundred Colts fans, ball is in the air, game is on the line, who do you want to be on the other end of the pass, Moncrief or Nicks? 99 of them are saying Moncrief. |

Up to a point being midway through last season. DHB got even worse as the season wore on. Mentally he just fell apart, appears he hasn't recovered. Not that he was ever a good receiver. |

During the bye week seems like a pretty prime opportunity to transition a young player into a more featured role in the offense. It seems like some games Moncrief is a big part of the gameplan, and others he is hardly used. The coaches must think he can excel at certain situations but struggles in others? I agree that if you just swapped their snap counts, Moncrief would put up better stats. But Nicks is still a big target that has to be accounted for, and he is quite good on the shorter routes. He isn't without value. I'm a huge Moncrief fanboy though, the more the better. |

Moncrief has one really good game. It happens to be the one game where his work load was increased due to Waynes absence. Otherwise, his production is very good given his very limited work load. I'm not sure why but coaches often take a patient approach with rookies (whenever the circumstances allow) even when they are showing such promise. The Colts did this same thing with Freeney his rookie year. Freeney did not become a starter until the second half of his rookie season. TY is another good example. He did not become a starter until Wayne went down last year. You would think that the coaches would recognize that Moncrief is out-performing Nicks if their relative work loads are being considered. Yet, I do not expect to see a change in their roles at this time - even though it seems as if there should be. |

It ain't like Nicks is taking meaningful time from anyone. Pep seems to prefer 2 TE sets and 2 WR's for the most part. Nicks will be one and done, and Moncrief should get plenty of snaps next year. No point in rushing him now. They will have certain plays for him to participate in for the now, and seemingly will expand his role in the near future.

One of my worries for next year is Reggie. I love Reggie and wish he could stay forever but he is slowing down a bit. I want him to finish his career on the positive side and not the negative side. I just hope that when he does retire we keep him in the organization. That makes me think Moncrief will get a lot of exposure next year. This is why I would like to get him on the field as much as possible this year. We could end up without Reggie or Nix next year. |

Nicks is a goner, Reggie might be...but Hilton and Moncrief will be on the team, as will other new talent. Grigson is smart enough to surround Luck with the weapons he needs. |

Reggie will sign a reasonable 1 or 2 year deal and will be the slot guy seeing fewer snaps. Still a reliable target, but more of a 3rd or 4th option. Hilton and Moncrief will be the outside WRs, and they might look for someone in free agency who is another one and done candidate. I don't think it will be addressed in the draft, I wouldn't be opposed to a early WR pick, but Moncrief and Hilton are both young, and Wayne and Whalen are decent slot options. Plus the two TEs. Luck has weapons. |

If next season started with our depth chart saying: Hilton Wayne Moncrief Whalen ??? I would be pretty damn excited about the corp. Edited by IronPony1965, Nov 7 2014, 01:45 AM.

I dunno. I'd love to have someone more elusive than Wayne or Whalen in the slot. |

I'm fine with the top three, would still rather not see a situation where Whalen has to be anything more than a slot option. We could use some WR depth if Nicks leaves. Maybe add a guy in the later rounds of the draft who could be another project. Ideally, one who stays out of trouble. |

With the potential earnings of a NFL WR, you would think that this would not be so difficult. But for some reason it seems not to be so easy. Edited by rccolts, Nov 7 2014, 12:07 PM.
