That makes more sense because Louis is nowhere near as good. |

Ah, some light has been shed on the mystery as to why he did not play last night. |

I would assume he'll be back after the bye, but Pagano didn't commit to anything. |

I like the little we saw from Nixon last year. |

If Cherilus continues to struggle, Nixon could be an option. He's not played much guard though, has he? |

They aren't going to bench Cherilus unless he's just terrible. He makes way too much money to sit on the bench. He's our highest paid lineman and it's not close. I'm pretty sure his contract is worth more than the entire rest of our current starting line put together. They might cut him after a season, but I really doubt they bench him unless they clearly have a better option. |

I sure hope the best player plays for our franchise and decisions are not based on how much a player is getting paid. I can't think of a quicker way to see a team go into the dumpster than to let salaries decide playing time vs on field production. |

In a perfect world the guy who deserves to play the most is always the one who plays, but the NFL is a business. They have a huge investment in Cherilus and they'll likely see it through right up until they cut him to save money and move on. Look at the fact that Richardson is still starting when it's clear that Bradshaw is the better back. Nicks is still the number 3 receiver when it's clear that Moncrief is already better. I bet Landry is starting at safety again pretty soon, despite having shown nothing that says he's better than Brown or Adams. It's just the way it goes in the NFL. If the talent is even close, the playing time goes to the guy with the biggest investment. |

I see your point, but I think your examples are about to be proven wrong. Bradshaw has been getting a bigger and bigger role in this offense as the season has gone on, and in many games gets the same number of carries as T Rich. Whether he starts over T Rich is one thing, but I think we are already to the point where Bradshaw will get equal playing time to T Rich. Also I think we'll see Moncrief playing in place of Nicks very shortly. Last year when DHB sucked we benched him in favor of the young guys Brazil, Whalen and Hilton all passed him on the depth chart and he covered kicks on special teams. I'm not sure Landry comes back and takes Brown's spot either. |

Why is everyone so down on Nicks? He made some great plays this year. |

Yeah, and I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm just saying that the more a guy makes, the more the guy behind him has to show that he is clearly better before the team will make a move. I don't think people realize how much money Cherilus makes. He is literally the second highest paid guy on the team in both total contract value and average yearly salary. The only guy who makes more than him is Vontae Davis. And we don't have a guy sitting on the bench who is just too good not to get playing time. I just think it would be really hard for him to get benched. |

I don't think he will get benched this year but he must be replaced next year. Others have said the plan is to move Mewhort to RT. That means we definitely need help at OG. |

Cherilus may have had some weak moments this year, but like it or not, he and Costanzo are the anchors on the OL. The anchors certainly aren't Harrison and the rest that are rotating through there. Mewhort is a R, Harrison is young also, Thornton is young and up and down, Reitz is a career backup as is Lewis, and it goes on and on. Cherilus and Costanzo are $$making vets. We know that teams make decisions based on money, as well as the player's draft position. The team is trying to maximize return for its dollar outlay. IF (if) the Colts are disappointed in Cherilus' play, I'd imagine that their path would be to "coach him up" and try to get as much out of him, or turn him around, so as not to completely throw money out the window, unless someone is clearly better to replace him, which I don't see. But come on, I see many dudes doing a worse job than Cherilus. Watch our LB's try to cover guys in the passing game. Watch Butler and Gordy try to cover anybody. Watch Werner get swallowed up by big OT's. I can pick on just about anybody. See #60 let a blitzer go right by him on the TD pass to Wayne on Monday night, the network analysts had a field day with that. I like Toler, but how many times has this guy been torched on plays, like the long gainer by Beckham Monday night. I have been frustrated with Nicks sometimes, but I then have to remember how many guys Luck throws the ball to every week, including the Colts above average TE's who end up in all sorts of positive mismatches. Nicks almost had 1000 yards receiving last year in a down year. He's a quality vet who I think might be valuable the rest of the year, especially if teams "fall asleep" in covering him. Moncrief has been great so far, and he certainly looks like the future, but he's a kid who probably doesn't even know the whole playbook yet. To me , starting Moncrief over Nicks makes no sense, unless Nicks is hurt or is a malcontent, which I doubt. See him give Luck the pregame pat on Monday? Down the stretch, Nick's experience and skills will be valuable. I believe he wants the ball. And yes, the Colts will be trying to maximize their one year $$ investment in Nicks. It's not that easy in a team situation to take talented, expensive vets like Cherilus and Nicks and just dump them on the bench, unless it's a situation like Bey last year where he literally couldn't function with the ball. The Colts are going to go as far as they can with guys like Nicks and Cherilus (and Toler and Jackson and Freeman etc. - and maybe even Landry, but that's a whole other story) Edited by Coltny, Nov 7 2014, 05:27 PM.

Cherilus has flat out been a sieve this year. He was very good last year so there's reason to believe he can get it turned around. |
