I didnt get to watch the game and I went through a full week of NFL Networks scheduled programming and they arent showing the game. I saw Newsome had two sacks and it made me wonder if they were coverage sacks or if he used his speed? Did he get there quickly? I feel like any kind of pressure is good, but the kind of pressure a speed rusher can bring from the edge can really throw off a QB. I wont hold him to a Mathis standard, but hopefully he had some Mathis-like pressures. Thanks guys |

At this point neither Newsome nor Werner are getting there with speed rushes very much. Werner is getting better but doesn't have the agility or speed to really be effective in this type of rush. He generally gets about a yard behind the qb. I think Newsome had one sack on a speed rush, but another came when he split a double team while doing a d-line stunt with Redding(?). He has more agility and speed than Werner I think, but is still not real effective in his speed rush. He has shown a little spin move, but has little to no bull rush. Newsome has shown he can make plays. He has a great upside it seems to me. If he can get stronger and perfect his moves he could be really good. |

I don't know that Newsome will become a great pass rusher, but a steady contributor that can rotate in would be nice. That's the problem though, Werner, Walden and Newsome are all nice compliments (good rotation guys like Raheem Brock back in the day) if you have an elite pass rusher (Mathis), or two (like the Broncos). |

While I'm not ready to call Werner an elite pass rusher yet, I will say he has stepped up his game quite a bit this season and playing quite well when you consider he doesn't have Mathis drawing attention away from him. That hit he layed on Monday Night was a thing of beauty. |

Werner, Walden and Newsome have all played at or better than expectations. If fans want a GREAT pass rusher to add, sign Justin Houston in March. Another problem is that most times our ILB's aren't strong enough at the point of attack to blitz effectively and consistently enough up the gut, which would create havoc ala Pittsburgh.
