Cherilus; Might not play Sunday

Stampede Blue reports Cherilus did not practice today and might be out for Sunday.
He has had a tough time this year but who can fill in at RT? I thought Mewhort was to become our future RT but as a rookie he has enough problems at LG. Not a very good sign for the Colts. Pep will need to be very creative to give Luck any time or for us to run the ball at all.

Either Joe Reitz or Xavier Nixon would start if he can not go

WTF We are coming off a bye. Did he get hurt in practice?

I have a feeling he has been playing hurt for some time but nothing other than just my opinion.

I thought it was confirmed that he has been playing hurt? Can't remember. But with the way he's been playing, having Reitz or Nixon take his spot won't be any worse.

Mewhort has been playing pretty well, imo. We've had more problems with RG than with LG, especially if Lance Louis is in. However, I still wonder about Mewhort at tackle. I don't know if his lateral movement is good enough, but I don't have much to base that opinion on.

The question in my mind is whether we are better this year on our OL than last year. I don't feel we have improved very much and doubt if things can change until next year.

Let's see what Nixon can do with more playing time.

Grigson said earlier in the year that Cherilus was hurt, maybe it caught up to him. I believe he has been hurt most of the year, he isn't a stud, but he is a reliable RT who you usually don't notice much. This year I've been noticing him a lot, not for good reasons. Hopefully he takes the time he needs to get healthy and get back to being a good player.

Really?

I myself have been quit impressed with the improved OL play. So after reading your opinion here I thought I should investigate. According to 'Football Outsiders' after week 10, the Colts OL ranks as the 5th best in rushing & 3rd best in pass protection. They have several stats & adjustments they use for ranking that I will not even attempt to explain because frankly I don't truly understand them. The one stat that does support your opinion is that the Colts OL does not rank well (30th) in their Power Run category.

But what is surprising even to me is that through 10 weeks the Colts OL has only allowed 14 sacks while the league average is 21 and only 5 teams have allowed fewer. When considering the Colts lead the league in pass attempts this becomes an even more impressive stat.

The sack total is impressive given how much we throw, but also have to give Luck a ton of credit. He has great pocket awareness, can move around with the best of them and will do just about anything to get the ball out (sometimes even when he should just take the sack).

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate them and now realize my thinking too much about our balance of passing and running. I thought our first half against the Bengals was a great "O". If I remember correctly, Richardson had his best game of well over 100 yards of "O" between running and passing. I really like our 2 running backs as a team. They produce entirely different problems when they are in the game. All we need to do is convince Richardson to not use his "stutter" step.

Gosder is a go. He's been hobbled by a hammy issue...

Cherilus did practice today- although limited- and is listed as questionable.

Walden had a full practice, and is probable.

Jones is out.

Pagano made it sound like Gosder would play. Glad to see Walden back also.
