Not a bad breakdown of Luck by Bruschi, who I still hate, but take note of the poll halfway down on the right and the options and the results (This is for a game in freaking Indy for crying out loud): What's your prediction for Patriots-Colts? Patriots win a close game. Patriots win a blowout. Colts win. http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/page/bruschibreakdown-111314/new-england-patriots-indianapolis-colts |

It's interesting to see Bruschi actually picks the Colts to win. I think this is going to be a tough one for us, honestly. |

We can win, but the odds are not in our favor. The Pats biggest weapon is their TE and its the weakest part of our defense. We can cover WRs, we can stop the run, we can even get pressure with all of our blitzes, but we can't stop TEs to save our life and Gronk is just amazing this season. If we don't turn the ball over and play the way the offense has been playing lately, we can win, but we'll have to make some plays on defense or special teams to do it. |

I think it comes down to a shoot out. I feel like with the steelers throwing the entire desperation playbook at us and we still put up 30+, the sky is the limit. |

2 weeks to prepare. No Mathis or Jones will hurt, but next man up is more than a cliche. |

I was reminded today why I never watch any of the ESPN or NFL network shows. I was flipping channels and ran across one today. I think it was Bruschi and some other guy who didn't look like he'd ever played football before. They were arguing over whether Luck was any good or not. Bruschi made a point that Luck took a pretty bad team to 11-5 his first year, the other guy said that team wasn't bad at all so Bruschi mentioned it went 2-14 the year before. Then the guy said we went 2-14 on purpose just to draft Luck. That's when I lost all interest. He went on to say Bill Polian is a Hall of Fame GM who knows how to build a team, which made no sense because he's then implying that Polian built a great team...that went 2-14 on purpose....so Polian would get fired? |

I don't know if it was on purpose, but he has a point. That team was better than their record. If they would have played Dan freaking Orlovsky the whole season they probably would have won 6 to 8 games. I'm not exaggerating either. That is how bad of a QB Painter is, that a QB who couldn't even make it on the 0-16 Lions was a better QB than him. If that team had an average starting QB they would have been a borderline playoff team. That doesn't go along with the hate on Polian narrative, but it is the truth. |

We were trying to win. The problem was how stubborn Polian was, and you could see it with keeping Painter in for so long. Under Polian, we routinely played guys based on their contract, not their performance on the field. |

The team that went 2-14 was almost completely different than the one that went 11-5 the next year. |

F.Y.I. Polian didn't even want to draft Luck. He wanted to trade the pick, which bedeviled Irsay and led to his exit. The Colts played very hard down the stretch and almost lost the #1 pick, so it's assine to even suggest that the team "threw" games. Painter played because he had tenure over Orslobsky. All teams do for the most part. In any sport. Edited by errsay, Nov 17 2014, 01:07 AM.

And while I love Peyton to death, would anything be different if we'd kept him and traded the pick? Oh, we would have brought in all of this talent with the draft picks we would have gotten for Luck. Sure, and with Polian in charge, we would have rebuilt the offense and looked just like Denver does today - very good, but not good enough. |

Except as you noted in another thread, this team is young and growing, and we have a GM who is willing to try new things. Not one who is stubborn and insists on continuity to the point of being a detriment. |
