Please don't use Griff Whalen on kick returns anymore. He's fine as a punt returner, but keep him off the field on kickoffs. Even when he's not the primary returner he jacks things up. He is the reason the muffed kick return happened (stepped right in front of Herron as he was fielding the ball). Should have been a safety, but the refs bailed us out. |

I'm sorry but Herron is the one responsible for that screw up. He was going to try and field the ball at the one yard line after it had already bounced ten times? And you want to blame Whalen who clearly was expecting him to field it in the end zone, and take a knee, which was the proper course of action. Like I have said before, he has the best Colts kick return average in over a decade. As a kick returner he has done well for us. Your dislike for him as a kick returner is frankly wrong. |

His decision-making is sometimes suspect. I like the kid though. Definately a keeper. Much bigger problems to worry about. Start by benching Freeman. |

This. It completely boggles my mind why Whalen is taking flak this year. First off almost every kickoff is a touchback anyway all across the league. In the rare event that Whalen needs to take one out, he almost always get to or past the 20. Does no one remember ALL of those years where Manning and co started every drive inside our 20 because our return guys always took them out and never got to the 20? Why is Whalen taking flack compared to some of the guys we've used in the past? |

Whalen is not going to go for a TD He is steady but i would like to see us have someone back there that could take it. 100 yards |

I would rather we have an OL other than our LT that could block someone. |

I think everyone would, but I am not going to complain if we have someone consistent back there. He has gotten 20+ yards on 13 of his 15 returns this season. All of his mistakes as a returner have come on punts, not kicks. |

Apparently the Colts disagree with you, which is why Herron was returning kicks Sunday. He hasn't for most of the season. They also tried out Josh Cribbs during the bye week. http://inkonindy.com/2014/11/14/josh-cribbs-gets-tryout-colts/ |

Unless you have one of the best kick returners in the league there is nothing wrong with trying out new kick returners. I'm just saying he doesn't deserve a dedicated thread to how bad he has been doing, when he hasn't been doing bad at all. |

It can be argued he almost cost us two points and possession of the ball. Combine that with the fact he's had other mistakes on returns this year (indecision) and I think it warrants a discussion. Some are just overly protective of the guy and I don't get why. He's not a good kick returner, OK as a punter returner, is a decent backup receiver, but one you hope you don't have to count on. He's mediocre in every aspect of his role on the team. |

The Colts signed Cribbs. Clearly they think it's an issue. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11897320/indianapolis-colts-sign-receiver-josh-cribbs |

I like Whalen as a "utility guy," but as the FT kick & punt returner I've seen a lot of instances where I've thought that a guy with a little more speed and moves could get better yardage than Griff. My question about Cribbs revolves around how healthy he is because he's taken a lot of hits, but he has that extra gear that I think Whalen doesn't have. |
