I've been highly critical of him of late. I didn't think he'd be waived, but as I've been noting he's a mediocre backup receiver who proved he's not a reliable returner. You're not going to last in this league if you're a no. 5 receiver and can't play on special teams. |

Apparently they still think Holmes can develop into something. Whalen has shown us about all he has to offer. |

Because the team didn't just sign a much better player at his position this week. |

I think it's also worth noting that Whalen's reputation with fans is based entirely off last season when he was forced into action and was decent, not always good or even average. He's only seen the field on special teams this season and there he was very much replaceable.

Surprised by this, but not really disputing the decision. I still think he can be a productive slot receiver somewhere. I doubt he turns into another Brian Hartline, though. |

Whalen stepped in when he had to at receiver and did a very decent job in my opinion. Im not really sure whats wrong with saying that. He did a good job in spot duty and I appreciate it. I dont ever recall anyone pretending he was anything extremely special. |

I would have rather us cut Nicks and give Moncrief his snaps and give Whalen Moncriefs snaps. That would have made more sense to me. |

Similar in the fact that they play the position. Moncrief has brought more to the table than Nicks has already. Nicks is nothing like he was in NY. Hes slow, cant get separation and has been ineffective. Moncrief has played well every chance hes gotten. |

I agree Moncrief should now be getting more reps than Nicks (technically Nicks has only started five games). Not sure I'd take Whalen over Nicks though. |

I like Whalen but with Cribbs did not need Whalen if we need a #5 WR, we use Cribbs one thing Nicks has over Whalen is size I assume Colts are not ready to give up on Holmes |

I think Whalen is a much better route runner than Nicks. Luck and Nicks never seem to be on the same page. |

Well, Cribbs just returned the opening kick to the 33. See ya, Griff. He probably will be back ... and then will be gone again. |

He may turn out to be another Wesleye Saunders - on and off the team, hanging around Indy waiting for a phone call. |

Whalen hasnt gotten an opportunity this year, but why is it crazy to think he wouldnt do what he did last year when he filled in? Which, by the way, is more than Nicks has done all damn year. |

Hakeem Nicks three years ago I would agree with you. But, he is another DHB. I give Grigson credit for trying to bring guys in that can make a real difference but in the case of DHB and Nicks they just have not produced. And, I hate to say this because I am a huge fan and love the guy but Reggie is not the same player he was two years ago. |

I think Wayne would have had a hell of a game. I remember at least 3 times he was wide open and Luck missed him high each time. Luckily for Wayne, speed was never really in his arsenal. I think he has a few years left. |

I think the reason Luck missed him is because he expected Reggie to come out of his breaks quicker and accelerate faster, but that's just a guess. |

Rev, I agree & disagree with you at the same time. Nicks & DHB are similar in the fact that they both have been disappointments. But, DHB was getting open but couldn't catch the ball while Nicks is the opposite. He catches the ball but just can't get open. As far as Whalen goes, he is a better WR than he is a return man. So considering that he was buried on the WR depth chart & was just not providing anything of value on ST's, I am not surprised at this move. But given a chance, I believe he could be an effective slot receiver. So Considering his age, I'm not too sure that he should not have been retained instead of Nicks & move Moncrief & Whalen up the depth chart - JMO. |

Nicks, like DHB, will not be retained for next season. He is here this season. GMs and owners do not admit mistakes unless they absolutely have to. They don't absolutely have to with Nicks. They just play him less. Moncrief can take his snaps, and he can sit on the bench for depth. |

Do we even know that Nicks is getting more reps than Moncrief now? Are there stats available somewhere for who has been in for more plays? |

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/snapcounts This is through last week. Looks like you will have to enter the parameters yourself, but the ALL option is at the bottom of the week list. Edited by IndyColt45, Nov 24 2014, 09:19 PM.
